Greatest oriental food ever. Cost isn’t bad, the food is fantastic. Best garlic chicken

I can’t remember having better Chinese food than this. The various dishes are prepared nicely. It’s clear the chefs are very skilled.

When I am visiting south Jersey I always stop in and grab a bite. Food is excellent. I strongly recommend the wonton in hot oil. To die for! Their rice is wonderful. The portions tend to be large. I love the food. The Resturant could use some updating but the food is great

Top notch Chinese food, very friendly staff and always an enjoyable dining experience for us. We come all the way from Delaware to eat here at least once a month!

The food was excellent, but that was it we went there this evening party of 6 adults and 3 children as soon as we walked in a man approached me and said in a rude tone did I call for reservations I said no(the restaurant was empty) but we sat in the waiting area while they took in people that came in behind us we finally got a table and then waited a seemed like a half hour before a waiter took our order. After that we had to ask for more plates and water glasses to get started and almost the entire time we were there not one person checked on us, tried to get someone’s attention after almost finished just to get a refill of our drinks. On my way out I talked to the very nice young lady about how unhappy I was with the service only to find out that our very rude waiter was the manager! Will never go back there again except maybe to get take outs that way we can get a good meal without the aggravation!

Crossed the bridge from Delaware to take in an old childhood favorite. The Orient still delivers a solid Chinese experience. We loved the wontons in red hot oil and crab and cheese wontons. For mains we shared the crispy prawns with walnuts, beef with cashews and General Tso’s chicken. With tip we came in under $ 60 for the three of us. Hot tea is included as are crunchy wontons with duck sauce and hot mustard. Great local favorite!

Very good. Went there at about 9pm right when they were closing. Got shrimp & broccoli w/white sauce & white rice. The white rice couldve been softer but thats what happens when you go to a restaurant thats about to close. Def had better but it was def good. Would def go back. Guy at counter was really nice too & is willing to explain anything on the menu.

Some people die for this place, other don’t; I think i find myself somewhere in the middle. Granted i’ve only been their once and the girls I was with swear by this place(they grew up in salem county) maybe its a jersey thing maybe its not. Either way it was a cute sit-down chinese place that served a lot of food for a little price(me gusta) One of the girls I was with was a vegetarian and there was pork both in the fried rice and in the egg rolls– so if that applies to you beware. I got a combination platter that included an egg roll, soup and entrée for around $ 10. I got the chicken and brocc which was okay. I’ll probably go back if i’m in town since its such a good deal but obviously i’m not making any special trips to pennsville, nj for the orient.

I’m not a huge fan of Chinese food; however, the Orient is so good I consider it the best food in town and at times I crave it! My favorites are the shrimp with Chinese vegetables, shrimp lo mein, General Tso’s chicken, crab wontons(ooo you so need those in your life!), and the pork fried rice. I love that they are never stingy with the veggies and the meat seems to be a better quality with minimal fattiness. I’ve ordered easily over 100xs and the food is always consistent. They have never gotten my order wrong or left something out of a to go order(to me that is huge!). Also unlike several other Chinese places I don’t end up a) with a stomach ache due to MSG or b) feeling hungry. The food here is really exceptional, the price points are more than reasonable and for me the service has been impeccable!

It’s so hard to find decent Chinese food in Wilmington, DE area. I’m a native Philadelphian so I know what decent Chinese food is and it’s not what’s served around New Castle County Delaware. By chance I happened to be going by the Delaware Memorial Bridge area that night anyway so while searching for Chinese in that area the Orient Chinese Restaurant popped up. Normally I wouldn’t be interested in taking a trip over the bridge to Jersey just for dinner but considering my wife wanted Chinese and knowing how bad the Chinese food is in our area I decided to read through the reviews. After being convinced this place was worth a shot we took our chances and headed to Pennsville to find the Orient Chinese Restaurant. Thankfully the trip wasn’t that long and the place was easy to find. As we pulled up to the entrance of the parking lot we see a bunch of cars so I thought hmm maybe this place is going to be OK. Upon entering the restaurant the first thing we notice is the waiting area is full and most of the tables are full of people eating so that was a good sign. At first I was a bit worried that we would have a long wait for a table but quickly realized most of the people in the waiting area were there for takeout. The next thing I realized is the place is BYOB which made me a little disappointed that I didn’t bring a bottle of wine but oh well next time! In less than three minutes we were escorted to our table. Going with some of the suggestions from other reviews we ordered Shrimp with Fruit sauce, Shredded Pork with Garlic sauce, and Beef Chow Fun noodles. I wasn’t sure what to expect for the Shrimp with Fruit sauce. I’ve never heard of something like that and if I saw it on a menu I would have probably skipped over it, but we decided to try it since it had high reviews. When it came to the table I was surprised because its actually a dish I know and like. The first place I’ve had it was at David’s Mai Lai Wah in Philadelphia’s Chinatown. I know the dish as Walnut Shrimp and it consists of very large fried shrimp with a glaze sauce and large candied walnuts. Orient’s version is not quite as good as David’s but it was still pretty damn good and it paired nicely with the spicy pork dish. The next dish was the Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce. Again ordering this dish made me a little nervous cause I wasn’t sure what to expect. When I read ‘shredded pork’ I immediately think of pulled pork sandwiches you might have at a barbeque and I wasn’t sure how the Chinese version of that was going to come out. I was pleasantly surprised when it came to the table. The dish was more like strips of pork in a spicy reddish darkish glaze along with sauteed red/green peppers and other vegetables. It reminded me of a Korean dish called Chaeook Bokum. Although it was slightly salty, when mixed with white rice it tasted very good and it paired well with the sweetness of the shrimp. The last dish was the Beef Chow Fun noodles. This was a dish that both my wife and I are very familiar with. My wife tends to order this more often than not. Its a dish we first fell in love with at Lee How Fook in Philadelphia’s Chinatown. This dish comes with wide/fat rice noodles covered in a brown sauce along with sauteed vegetables and nice sized pieces of seasoned beef. This dish did not disappoint. It had great flavors along with properly cooked noodles and it paired well with the other dishes. Although we both ate as much as we could we had plenty of food leftover to take home(which was our plan from the beginning.) Our server was very nice and tentative. He took away the leftovers and in a short time returned with a bag of takeout boxes. Overall we were pleasantly surprised with the Orient Chinese Restaurant’s food. We felt lucky that we finally found a place that wasn’t too far from Wilmington where we could get good Chinese food. I’m sure we will be back soon.

Love, love, love this restaurant! Nice interior, though I can only review the takeout. This is not your typical takeout Chinese restaurant. The food is fresh, and most importantly, delicious. The scallion pancakes are awesome, as are the wontons in red hot oil. I LOVE the shrimp with fruit sauce, the pork in garlic sauce, and the sweet and sour chicken as well. The cold noodles with sesame sauce are delicious. Haven’t had a miss yet. Last time we ordered, the food was a tad bit greasier than normal, hence the loss of one star, but honestly, it was still fresh and delicious. Also, I wish they delivered! If you are in the Pennsville area and love Chinese food, go here. You won’t be sorry!

If you are EVER in Salem County or anywhere near Pennsville, NJ, I suggest stopping by The Orient. Having travelled through the area a handful of times, I have stopped here with each trip. Pennsville doesn’t have much to offer, but I think this place tops most of the authentic Chinese restaurants I have dined in in many major cities. Like most Chinese restaurants, the service is not great, which is why I’m giving it 4 starts instead of 5. Other than that, this place is perfect!

I grew up around these parts but I’m a city girl now… in the boonies the Orient stands alone in quality creativity and flavor. I like the shrimp with fruit… the shrimp is always fresh and huge!!! The fruit sauce is so good with huge walnuts… ah…you just have to try it. I have never eaten anything here that wasn’t just plain olé wonderful! :-) The Orient could compete with any Chinatpwn eatery in any cosmopolitan city!

This is THE best Chinese food in the WORLD! I have been dining at the Orient for over 20 years. It is the ONLY place that I will eat shrimp fried rice and wonton soup. No one makes it like the Chan family. Besides the great service, they have many dishes that I consider a stand out: The aforementioned plus, Shrimp and fruit sauce Crab Rangoon Scallion pancakes The reality, you can not go wrong with any selection on the menu! Price: reasonable Atmosphere: casual and fun– it’s a BYOB! Environment: could use some updating– but many have just grown accustom to what it is… More of a locals spot. My friends and I make sure to visit each year around Christmas– nothing special happening there– just a good time for us to connect and enjoy great food-great company!

I have eaten chinese food all over the country and all over the WORLD. And although I have had a dish here or there that may have been better, this is maybe the best over all chinese restraunt I have ever eaten in. I have eaten here hundreds of times, both in and take out and I have never had anything that was not good. I love to go with the whole family, sit at the big round table, place all the food on the turn table and share what everyone orders. It is the best way to experience all the yummy items they offer. My personal favorite is the Hot and Spicy Shrimp. Locally owned by a Chinese-Pennsville family, the service is warm and friendly. Prices are pretty low and you get lots of delicious, high quality food.

This place is a good«stand by». The food is decent and it is fairly priced… but it is not the BEST Chinese you will ever have. You can eat in or take out… and I love to fried noodles they give you either way! You have to eat in to get the multi-layered jello squares and pineapple slices though! All in all– it is a good standard Chinese place to eat!
