The Colonial Motel has been part of Penn Yan forever. We stayed a week a few years ago with a family group, ranging from 4 to 72. It was great! They have kitchenettes(small and large) and hotel rooms and a little cottage. I have experienced all 3. It is a very nice change from chain hotels. It’s like going to stay at a friends cottage. Don’t expect modern or fancy! The beds are average, the towels are absorbent(if a little rough), all the appliances work, there’s plenty of hot water, and the sunrises will get you going in the morning. We rarely heard other guests(although we may have scared them off with so many children!) The only reason I’m not giving 5 star is because I don’t want to raise your expectations too high. I love this place and will recommend, with the explanation that it is most certainly NOT a HoJo or Holiday Inn. The owners live on site and are friendly and helpful, accommodating late check-ins, and are quick with suggestions for activities. If you don’t feel like cooking breakfast, I suggest Penn Yan Diner, and for an evening treat, hit up Seneca Farms Ice Cream.
