I had a nice filet mignon and some standard sides of broccoli, cauliflower, and baked potato here. The filet was prperly seasoned and slightly overcooked past the medium rare I ordered… but not too bad.
I also had the «Dutch lettuce» salad, which was not on the menu at the time of my dining experience in September 2015. I loved it… A tossed salad with a slightly sweet and creamy dressing.
The onion rings here are delicious and homemade… And the half order is enough for two!
Peace Tree Blonde and Red beers from Knoxville, Iowa were nice to see and a real treat to drink.
Service was excellent. The food takes time, but that’s okay.

I’d thought this place would reflect the Danish heritage of the town, but it doesn’t. There is what’s called a Dutch steak on the menu. But we didn’t eat from the menu. There was a dinner buffet in the back room, and we went for that. It’s pure American old-​people food, but very fine. Huge slabs of juicy and well-​seasoned prime rib cut by a server from the board, and the rest is self serve: fried shrimp, mixed vegetables (including broccoli and spinach), several salads. It was hard not to overeat.

This place is really good. I read a bunch of bad reviews and didn’t come here for 2 years. It was a mistake. We really enjoy their food. The prime rib and shrimp buffet on Saturday nights is delicious and affordable. I would definitely recommend eating here.

Decent food in an otherwise empty area. Pella, IA is not known for its cusine or its atmosphere but Monarchs is solid on all fronts. Coming from NYC here for business might have have meant the bar was set a bit higher, but they do a decent job on all fronts. The staff is friendly and willing, however it’s just not a happening hot spot, but definitely solid for the area its in.
