There was a mix-up while finding the place, but once we were there, it really got interesting. If you plan to participate I recommend you forego the alcohol until all handling of machines that could lacerate you is over with. Props to Will for setting this up… I can perdonally say this was my first opp to weld anything, and I have to say I plan on returning for more in-depth classes. Check it out!

Who needs boozy paint by number classes when you’ve got Wine and Welding at your convenience? When I heard about the Wine and Welding class at Weldwood Creations, my initial thought was«Me? Weld? Nahhh». After a quick internal struggle, I brought myself to the conclusion that I should at least try it — I mean, at the end of the day the least I could say is that I’ve been to a welding class before. To say that I left Weldwood Creations ecstatic is an understatement — anyone(yes, even you!) can weld! And guess what? It’s really freakin’ fun. Even this slightly girly girl really enjoyed working with my hands to create a nice iron piece. Certainly it doesn’t hurt that the staff of Weldwood Creations are super friendly and helpful, and provided tasty snacks and wine(duh) for us to enjoy. The creations that we welded on this particular night was a quick decorative piece, but multiple week classes are offered for more in depth projects as well. The owner showed us pieces that are often made in these classes, which costs way less than if you just bought the piece instead of making it yourself! Be sure to check out this place! You won’t be disappointed.

You may not know this by looking at me, but I’m not much of a welder. Shocking, I know, but true. That being said, I was a little hesitant to partake in a Wine and Welding event here. But I can now say that I did it and had a blast! My boyfriend and I went this past Saturday and took part in the welding fun. They helped me overcome my fear of grinding and welding metal(seriously, legitimate fear) and made it feel easy. I won’t be switching careers any time soon, but I really did have fun. Yes, my boyfriend did most of the welding on our piece, but I did the grinding like a champ! If you have any interest in metal art whatsoever, I would recommend signing up for one of their classes and let them guide you in the right direction. Trust me, if I can do it, then anyone can.

Wine and Welding is the best kept secret in BHM! Greg Wilson has created a laid-back and fun atmosphere to learn a new trade/hobby and makes it easy and useful. I have taken the end table class(3-week) and it has been one of the neatest things I’ve done in a long time. I’ve posted some pix too. Anyone can do this! Everyone should try this! They make amazing items and each one is perfectly crafted and they teach you how to make your own!

If you’re looking for art, furniture, iron pieces, decorative concrete, gifts for people that are hard to buy for, or just want to learn to weld while sipping on wine… this is your place. By the way, my first sentence only begins to describe everything at Frontera. They main attraction is the custom iron work. There are pieces already made for you to choose from or you can request almost anything imaginable. Examples: –One person brought in a man hole cover. Frontera made it into the center piece of an amazing concrete table on an iron stand. Unbelievably cool. — Another person had an injury that required screws and plates. When some of this metal was removed, Frontera used it to make a custom piece for her. Ridiculously cool. Beyond the iron work, there are hundreds of pieces of art and furniture from local and regional artist. Wood work, bottle cap art, and everything in between. As if all of this wasn’t cool enough, they offer Wine and Welding classes. It’s exactly what it sounds like. You go to a class, sip on wine or beer, learn how to weld, and make a custom piece for your home. The best part… you end up paying less than if you would have just purchased the finished product.
