The trip to this Waffle House was on our way to the Oak Mountain State Park early morning last weekend. Have been wanting to try this particular chain for long we decided to choose this over our traditional Subway and Panera Bread haunts close by. Wanting to fill up nicely before venturing out on a 6 mile long hike in the park we ordered for the Texas Cheese steak sandwich and the Texas Bacon Lover’s BLT. Served with a few slices of pickled jalapenos, the two sandwich just managed(if not a little less) to be enough. We also ordered for a regular Chilli which came before the sandwiches and served itself as a suitable appetizer before the sandwiches arrived. Adequately spicy, it was wholesome and tasty. Bacon Lover’s BLT on the other hand was dry and lifeless. I was particularly looking forward to the crispy hot bacon melting with the fresh tomatoes and lettuce but instead the bacon was hard and just about warm and mostly fell out of the slices of bread. Cheesesteak sandwich was still better only because of the dollops of cheese melted with the steak. The ambiance gets a better review than the food as the place was cheerful and bustling with people. The staff was busy yet attentive and ready to help out with suggestions which is a major plus for any establishment. Good Job team!

We typically like WH but we will probably not be back to this one. We were told to sit at a table that was not fully cleaned off and someone would clean it. It took almost 10 minutes for the table to be cleaned. Our food arrived before we got drinks. Hash browns were undercooked and mushy, bacon and waffles were burnt. The bacon was so black it was almost unrecognizable. Drink refills were impossible. The people that sat behind us eventually left with noone ever speaking to them. We like WH, but we will be stopping at a different one from now on.

You pretty much know what you’re going to get at a Waffle House. A couple of warning:(1) if you ask for cooked onions in anything — hash browns, omelets, etc., ask them to make sure the onion get cooked thoroughly; I had some hash browns with only partially cooked onions, and it was nasty;(2) bring a parka; this was the coldest restaurant I’ve ever been in.
