Precious Garden Chinese Restaurant

For a small nondescript little place, they serve really really great food. Everything I’ve had here is really delicious and I highly recommend this little jewel.

A very impressive Chinese restaurant in a small town. Convenient location, friendly and prompt service, and very satisfying food. Having permanent munchies for Chinese food, it was given that I had to stop for Chinese on a way to Harryman Park… Eggplant with Garlic sauce had great texture and a very balanced spice. Shrimp egg too young was the best I tried in years, and this is a lot to say for someone who orders shrimp too young on almost any occasion. Size of the servings is very large. A nice option to keep in mind when traveling in the parts.

This place is tiny but cute and the staff is friendly. It’s your typical chinese menu items, fair amount of food and usual prices. There is something about P Garden tho that tastes fresher and not as ‘mixed’ as other joints tho. Maybe they wash the woks more frequently instead of just globbing more sauce into the pan, regardless of the different flavors.
IDK, I like this place. The workers seem more genuine and not money grubbing either, asking 50 cents more for duck sauce and shizz. Give it a try

I don’t get all the hype. Food is your average everyday Chinese food. I think this place is a little pricey compared to other Chinese places around. I’m more a fan of #1 up the street.

good news on this update… the old ownership and cook are back and the food is as good as before they left in the spring. this is great news because the people who took it over really killed the place. We went back this week because we saw a new grand opening sigh again and thought we give it one more try and were very happy to the old faces that used to be there when the place was good.

Old owner back! Delish as ever. Best Chinese I have had anywhere in Westchester or Manhattan– hands down! Fresh ingredients and delicious wontons especially.

Ate there last week. Delicious as ever. I just hope more people patronize this establishment. Especially taking the time to sit down and eat. Hopefully then we can keep them there for a good while longer.

Read the previous reviews about a change in ownership and loss in quality… I am happy to report that the previous owner is back and the food is just as good as I remembered. General Tso’s was not overly breaded and had just the right amount of spice. Even the Chicken Chow Mein had a wonderful flavor and beautiful, crunchy, julienned vegetables! My family and I will be making a point to return more often.

UPDATE: I WENT HERE ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO TO GET TAKEOUT FROM MY FAVORITE LOCAL CHINESE — ONLY TO FIND IT HAS CLOSED!!! SO SAD.
There was a sign saying «Coming Soon: Chinese and Japanese food» (I think that’s what it said, it definitely implied it will still be another Asian food restaurant. So, we’ll see.
FURTHER UPDATE: It has reopened but under new management. And what I’m hearing is not good. Boo hoo hoo.

We were so hoping to find Hanukkah mecca when we Unilocaled upon Precious Garden on Christmas Eve. It looked promising enough with many non-​Christian families celebrating the season on Christmas Eve. There are few things I love more than a Jewish Christmas, so to speak, and movies and some tasty Chinese dishes are well, my top two wishes. And peace on Earth…
Rather than dine in we were tired and took our food home. It took more than half an hour to receive it, but that was forgivable due to the several large parties who might have overwhelmed the kitchen all at once. Maybe the trip, short as it was, did the food no favors but this meal has totally dashed any expectations I have of ever finding any top Chinese restaurants anywhere near where we live. Down to NYC next time.
The sesame cold noodles were limp, bland and coagulated with sparse runny under flavored sauce. The steamed veggie dumplings were bland and not even in the same ballpark with, let’s say, Palace Dumplings. I think I have been spoiled by PD and nothing will ever compare. :))) We had maybe half of the dumplings and all of the noodles so of the two the latter was better but not by much.
My main of Eggplant with Garlic sauce was very oily and I actually ended up discarded the majority of it which I rarely do. It was just so slick, I could not do a thing with it like draining it off. And it was very salty which made my face and hands puffy the next day. Ho ho ho! My husband’s General Tso’s Tofu was not even spicy but salty and lacked true Chinese flavors, at least the authentic kind. But we finished the tofu as we were starvulated.
Perhaps it was an off night but I do however think the place itself is decent with some good photoapportunities… and they were gracious and pleasant. But for that wait to receive fare that was just churned out and cooked on autopilot is a probably not a redo for us any time soon. :(((

My wife and I live in Peekskill and we have tried every Chinese restaurant with 20 minutes and Precious Garden is the best around. The food is fresh, made to order and the menu has a good variety.

Yummy food for carry out the atmosphere is not great to eat in. Tried the wonton soup and it’s very good, nice and light. As others have said it’s the best in the area.

Definitely the best Chinese food in the area, and run by a lovely woman. Great for eating in or take out.

Real food. Fresh, not frozen. Handmade wontons in the soup with ultra-​thin wrap. handmade dumplings. Fresh black bean sauce. Even the General Tso is not thick-​battered frozen chicken and shrimp.
Allright, so the ambience is not the best, and service can be a bit slow, but the food rocks!
In our opinion, the best Chinese in northern Wescthester and now that Hunan Village is gone, maybe all of Westchester.

Don’t let the street appearance of this wonderful restaurant fool you. This is by far the best chinese food in town (maybe best in all categories).
The steamed fish is simply great.
Go there to eat, you won’t be disappointed!

As I sit at my computer the next day pondering my intestinal distress, I can’t help but realize that every single time I eat Chinese food, no matter where from, the next day I pay dearly. Overloaded salt induced intestinal distress with a side of scallion breath.
However, this food WAS WORTH IT.
I can not stress that enough.
The basic start, 2.85 for a huge wonton soup, sounds like nothing to write home about EXCEPT the wonton’s were handmade! Not that BS that all the other places get; pre-​made and flash frozen. No. Steaming hot from-​scratch broth, not too salty, with a few choice slices of scallions and pork with slightly doughy and runny wontons that were stuffed with fresh meat. Primo.
The General Tso’s was REAL chunks of chicken, not the leftovers from cutlets, and they were GOOD. A little too sticky for my taste, but the spice was just right, and the aftertaste was a good thing. Slightly citrus.
The pork egg foo yung was HUGE, and coupled with a type of soy-​ginger-​scallion brown gravy that I was not accustomed to. It was perfect. The eggs weren’t overdone and were fluffy on the inside and nice and brown and slightly crispy on the outside.
Last was the shrimp lo mein, and what can I say except another home run. Real nice sized shrimp, and not just 2 or 3, prolly a dozen in a small container. And the lo-​mein was just sticky enough that you could tell they didn’t over oil the wok. Another big non-​greasy plus.
We only ordered to go, but in the time we were there the girl behind the counter was very talkative and pleasant, and the woman who brought our food out seemed genuinely pleased to have us as customers.
I can’t say enough about this place.

A cut above the other chinese restaurants in northern Westchester. Many delicate light flavors not usually found.
