I posted pictures so everyone could see this beautiful inn. I haven’t even spent the night yet and I’m in love. First of all the owner of the inn was nice enough to let us check in early. There was tea and pastries in the lobby area and they were delicious. The lady who checked us in was so sweet and we were told we we’re pretty much the only ones here. So it’s almost like we have this entire house to ourselves even though we don’t have access to the other rooms. I saw deer and there is s stream with apple trees. I don’t see how anyone could not enjoy this lovely inn.

What a great little B&B. The owner has done a wonderful job. Everything is well-appointed, clean and comfortable. It’s on a pretty, wooded lot, with a little babbling brook running through the front yard. The rooms are oriented so that they are somewhat insulated from one another, giving you a degree of privacy I wouldn’t normally expect from a B&B. The five-course breakfast in the morning was delicious, although make sure you let them know about any dietary preferences/restrictions, otherwise you’ll simply get what’s on the menu. In my case, I’m not much of a carb/sweets guy, and they were serving French toast stuffed with cream cheese and blueberry syrup. I opted for two helpings the fritatta instead, which was out of this world. The town, which is within walking distance(1 mile or so) is tiny and quaint, but there is an excellent restaurant there called McKinney & Doyle, which is where you must eat if you’re looking to sit down somewhere for a nice meal or grab some drinks. We were there for a polo match in a neighboring town, and can’t imagine why else we would be back there overnight, but if we ever had a reason, this is the place we would stay, without a doubt.

Let me put it this way: My boyfriend and I got back from a weekend at Pawling House less than 12 hours ago, and we’ve already booked our return trip. Pawling House is the perfect spot for those, like us, looking to escape the city and do some day hikes for a weekend. The home itself is serene, very well maintained, and has a comfortable and welcoming energy — it feels like visiting the house of an old friend. Every single detail is accounted for… including a closet filled with small items you may have left at home(toothbrush, contact lens solution, etc.) and the rooms themselves are wonderfully appointed. I guarantee you will sleep like a happy little rock. And when you wake up – get ready for breakfast! We were very well-fueled for lengthy treks on the Appalachian trail after delicious three-course breakfasts and plenty of coffee. Barbara, the innkeeper, is not only a delightful woman… she is a delightful cook. The town itself is a 10 minute walk away, with great restaurants and coffee shops if you have room for more food later in the day. A ton of other restaurants and bars are a quick drive, and the town taxi service was fantastic during our stay. I almost hate to recommend the Pawling House so enthusiastically, for fear that we’ll never be able to book a room again without doing it a year ahead of time… but the praise is well-earned. This spot is well-worth a visit.

Great B&B and I have been to quite a few. We actually come here even though we live near by, wife wants a break from our house and responsibilities. It is within walking distance from train to NY and within walking distance to the village and 2 parks that are open to non residents. I believe the swimming requires a pass. A nice jumping off point to see Dutchess county as well as Litchfield CT.

What a wonderful experience! First, the grounds are beautiful(bridge, stream, little garden, old trees) as is the house itself, old and charming, with funky details like stained glass windows and antique furniture. The rooms are even named after local historical figures. The breakfast(included in the room price) is more like a dinner at 9 am– four courses of home cookin’ just like mom never made. We had fresh fruit and yogurt, homemade cinnamon buns, apple waffles, spinach quiche, juice and coffee. I couldn’t touch lunch after that. Finally, the owner makes you feel like family from the minute you arrive. She even took time out of her day to drive us to our hiking site(we didn’t have a car) and to a farm the following day. Yes, it’s a little pricey. But if you’re looking for a special weekend– one you can get to easily from NYC by Metro North– this is it. Close to the Appilation Trail, farms, quaint bookstores, antique stores, a couple of decent bars and restaurants, live music… what more do you want?
