There is nothing better than having a great dinner in the bar area with the roaring fire on a freezing cold and snowy night! The food is great and the place is really cozy. The dining room upstairs is also really comfortable! I just went to The Barn with a bunch of my motorcycle buddies and the deck is so cool in the summer!

My family has eaten at the barn many times over the years and the food and service has always been excellent. The ambiance is lovely and the price is right. We have never ever been disappointed. We hale from Connecticut and spend many weekends in the area an have sampled many fine dining establishments throughout central and southern Vermont and the Barn is always our favorite. Thanks to the Mcchessney’s and their superb team at The Barn!

Excellent atmosphere. Great prices. Head to the tavern for a cozy night cap after your meal. Can’t go wrong with filet mignon.

I have to start out by saying that the $ 14 filet mignon is just an extraordinary and delicious bargain. For an extra $ 1 you can add sautéed mushrooms… yummy. If you order a salad, the house vinaigrette is also a treat. We were there on a Thursday night having made a reservation at the restaurant section several nights in advance. It was quite crowded, so I can imagine that especially on weekends, reservations are a must. There is another section to The Barn called The Tavern, where a more casual menu is served, but we haven’t eaten in that part. The Restaurant has a beautiful, big fireplace and a mezzanine(former hay loft) for extra seating, and is definitely nice enough for a special occasion. All in all, an excellent place to eat in the area.

Had a night out at the Barn. It was reasonably priced and there were no leftovers. Sat in the tavern and can’t complain. Even though people were at the bar they were respectful of the others. I can say that it was a enjoyable night and only one complaint. My Long Island ice tea was a little light. So a carafe of the house wine was welcome and not bad. The waitress was nice but had her hands full being the only one waiting on every table. It took three try’s and you need a reservation if you want to eat. Which says a lot about a correctly priced menu, good food, and nice atmosphere, will do for business. Hope to go back soon but so many other places left to explore. The Barn is worth the trip. Thanks for a great dinner.

Fantastic atmosphere, clean and nice. The food was reasonably priced and delicious. It was like being home,(minus all the extra people of course). Really a lovely place. Word of warning!!! Make a reservation first. We didn’t and had to wait an hour for a table, but the people were so kind and the place was so cozy, I almost could have taken a nap while I waited, almost. Highly recommend it.

I have eaten in both the bar section and restaurant section. I am a fan of both sections, but I prefer the bar because the bartenders are wonderful and friendly. All entrees on the menu are $ 14. If you want a salad, that costs extra. There is more meat on the menu than any other options, at least the last time I was there. However, there was a pasta dish that could be made vegetarian and several fish dishes.

Last 3 times I went here I swore I would never go back. Service was horrible(waited 1.5 hrs after ordering for our burgers to arrive) and the food was cold when it finally did arrive and sat with empty beer glasses during that 1.5 hour wait. Do the owners think that the food doesn’t need to be hot or the service can be lame because the entrees are only $ 14?

My second time there, the food is consistently good. The atmosphere is great. My only issue was the server. He wasn’t very attentive. We had to ask for refills of our drinks and about dessert. We really wanted to be there, he didn’t seem like he wanted us there. Not a deal breaker though. We will go back.

Good decent food. It’s not a fancy place but it’s fine for a simple night out. I like the bar and their Belty burger is yummy. It’s a busy place on the weekend nights but we always go on off hours. We have been a few times and have never walked away hating anything. It isn’t a 5 star dining experience but if you want to go out for a bite its pretty good.

I have dinned here many times, as my daughter attended Castleton, VT. Probably one of my favorite restaurants, unfortunately it is off the beaten path. Service is consistently pleasant, food always comes out prepared with skill and the priced appropriately. Only wish it was closer to home

We happened to be driving by on last Sunday and felt«invited» by the beautiful exterior and the«all entrees $ 13 sign.» Entering the cosy foyer, we were greeted by smiling faces and a wonderful warming fire. We we seated quickly and loved the interior. It was absolutely beautiful. I honestly cannot gush enough about it. It was five star beautiful. Unfortunately, the food just doesn’t live up to the setting and service. The food was unexciting, almost bland. But then again what do you expect for a $ 13 steak? Honestly it reminded me more of a breakfast steak than a NY Strip. I don’t think I have ever said this before, but I wish they would raise the prices so they could improve the food.

My wife and I have been coming here for years. We consider the Barn a great place for dinner. Nice atmosphere, good food at a good value. Beautiful drive up the Mettowee Valley from Dorset or Manchester. Upstairs is the dining room, loft-like space. Roaring fire in field stone fireplace in winter, awesome views of mountains in Summer and Fall. Staff is very pleasant and aim to please. There’s a bar downstairs, perfect spot for after dinner drink and like upstairs, nice atmosphere. Good bartender. Usually meet nice people at the bar.

What a bargain for such tasty food. Great atmosphere. Try sitting in the lower level tavern with all the regulars as well as an enormous stone fireplace. The wood fire warmed up the whole room. Service was perfect and so was the food. Nice selections of wine. Appetizers: Dumplings and Calamari were delicious. Calamari was so fresh and tender. Perfectly cooked VT steak & tasty grilled shrimp Caesar Salad. This place is worth the trip from anywhere in VT for a cozy supper. Open at 5PM Wed — Sun.

Thought we’d try this place out after a coworker mentioned it on Facebook. We made reservations for 7:30 on a Saturday evening during the peak foliage season — the place was PACKED. We were seated promptly, right on time. The menu has a variety of choices with all entrees(except the specials) costing $ 13. My husband and I both ordered French Onion Soup($ 6), Filet Mignon(yes, for $ 13) and a side salad($ 2.95 when ordering an entrée). The salads came out quickly, as did the entrée, but the soup got lost in the shuffle. We ended up asking to have it taken off the order, as we didn’t want the filet to get cold. We rounded out the meal by splitting a piece of pumpkin cheesecake and it was delicious! For the price, the food was very good. Don’t expect a filet you get elsewhere for $ 20+, but good, just the same. The setting is delightful. So why not 5 stars? It comes down to service. We never got water and the soup was forgotten. Yes, they were busy, but it wasn’t the first night they’ve ever been busy, I’m sure! The staff were efficient, but not personable. Very focused on getting food ordered and delivered, but not on making guests feel welcome. We felt rushed, and, in fact, we were out the door a mere 65 minutes after we were seated. Not exactly a relaxed, romantic meal. We will try again, hopefully on a night when they aren’t too busy, so we can slow down and enjoy it more.

The Barn has spoiled me for other restaurants. I don’t know if I’ll ever be as satisfied by a meal again. There are just too many things to mention here. First, the location is gorgeous. Honestly, it’s worth a trip to Rutland County, Vermont just to visit The Barn. The restaurant, as you can imagine, is housed in an old barn. «Charming» seems cliché to describe the interior, but I can’t think of another word. The windows look out on expansive views of sprawling green Vermont mountains. Service is great. The food is probably what Gordon Ramsey would probably call«honest»: fine dining whose simplicity highlights the flavor of fresh ingredients. The rolls were fresh and warm. I had the soup du jour – a very generous serving of an exquisite peach soup. I also tried the entrée«upgrade» of a fields green salad added to the entrée for a nominal charge. The house maple dijon vinaigrette is so good I’d buy a bottle of it. For dinner, I had the scallops, which were cooked perfectly and made me wonder if perhaps Vermont is closer to the coast than I thought. Most of the table had the filet, the Barn’s signature dish. If I were to go back, I would also have it. It was definitely memorable. On a future visit, I would also have to order two desserts. We split the flourless chocolate cake and a peanut butter pie. I can’t decide which I liked better. The flourless chocolate cake was possibly the best I’ve had, which is saying something, because I’ve had a lot of flourless chocolate cake in my day. And the peanut butter pie was definitely the best I’ve had. Oh, and, by the way, every entrée is $ 13. That’s right. THIRTEENDOLLARS. I have no idea how they do it. I have to find some reason to go back up to Pawlet.

The bill was $ 20 total for a filet mignon and a glass of red wine. They really do have $ 13 steaks, even at dinner, and they’re good! Love the view too, try to reserve a seat by the window if you can.

The best part about Barn is the décor. This place is absolutely beautiful, a perfect Vermont hideaway. This place could definitely be top tier, but they have some more work to do. Unfortunately the night we went was insanely crowded, and the kitchen was running very slowly and our server seemed distracted/overwhelmed. I’ve definitely been in that situation as a server so I tried not hold it against them, and the owner handled it very well, addressing each table and apologizing. Good prices, good food, great ambiance. Just need to polish the staff. not just in services(filling water glasses and such) but in appearance as well. I’m personally not a fan of a place that nice allowing servers to wear shorts and sneakers, long pants are just nicer, I know that’s a weird quirk, but it detracts from the beautiful nature of the place that makes you feel like you’re having a fine dining experience. Giving it four stars(though I wish I could give 3.5) because I hope they’ll improve the service, timing, and keep up the yummy food at great prices(goat cheese appetizer and mashed potatoes were to die for, salmon was cooked perfectly although not that flavorful, and I wish my dish had had more veggies on the side.) Hope to go again next time I’m in town.

When our dinner plans fell through last minute, the concierge at the Equinox resort recommended that we try out the Barn in Pawlet. I’m glad our dinner plans fell through as this is a great restaurant. There’s plenty of parking and it’s a little hard to get to(because they don’t have an address per se and I was hoping to just put it into my GPS and be on my merry way), but trust me this place is worth all the trouble. You can’t miss it as it is literally a huge barn on Route 33. It’s got a very cozy feel to it even though it’s huge with two separate dining rooms. The host was quick to seat us(even though we didn’t have a reservation) and our smiling server appeared quickly rattling off their specials of the day. I had the french onion soup which was divine(the same cant be said about my breath afterwards however). The rolls they served was a perfect accompaniment. I had the roasted duck as an entrée and my friend had the filet mignon with mushroom sauce. Both our entrees were fabulous, I loved the duck which was marinated in a really nice sauce(I have no clue what it was). The filet mignon was perfectly cooked and the sauce was great. Oh and as a side dish get their vegetables with maple-dijon vinaigrette(the vinaigrette is amazing!). The best part of this entire meal was the price. I was pretty surprised when I saw the check. Entrees were only $ 12! I don’t really understand how this restaurant makes a profit or even breaks even but as a customer, I think it’s great that prices are so low. Definitely go here if you are near the Pawlet area. I can’t wait till I go back to Manchester to go here and all the other wonderful places I discovered on our weekend getaway from Boston.
