I usually don’t give out five stars, but the seafood dishes here are amazing. From the mussells to scallops and oysters everything is delicious. The food portions are solid and the flavors are well mastered. This is a beautiful tucked away restaurant and a great choice if you want to eat outside by the water. The staff is very friendly and the vibe off of the ocean is very calming & beautiful. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone in the Patchogue area that wants to get away from the usual chocies on main street.

I’d give zero stars but anyhow, being a local to Patchogue and after having really really slow service last time, we waited about a year before deciding to give it another try, we’ll sitting 10 minutes at the bar waiting for a table and a drink, watching the bar staff chat, doze off and wonder, before dehydration hit hard we decided to give harbor crab our well earned money, shame really considering we live a few blocks away and I’d like to say, the service and staff at harbor crab are more welcoming, observant and on the ball so give them your money instead, they seem to care, oar don’t care at all

Nice spot, great view. always a local favorite. last night my husband ordered a Burger, and said it was the worst burger he has ever had. he could not even finish it. The Oar Chips are always amazing! We also got he chicken satay, nice presentation, tastey! Maybe think before you order a burger.

Tonight we had an exceptional meal from start to finish. Just last week we had eaten at the too-hyped H20, and we just knew that we were getting a better meal, better service, and better value all around at the Oar. And were we ever rewarded tonight! First off, a bonus, we received a $ 25 coupon for our anniversary which we used toward dinner. Ka-ching! Used that to justify the purchase of the Colossal Shrimp Appetizer, which was perfect for two. These were so fresh and succulent. Now for dinner, and I’m going to get a little sappy. I recently found out I have a gluten allergy, so I have to be super careful with what I eat. I asked the server whether the chicken dish I wanted had flour on it, and she returned to say that the sauce did contain flour. I asked if I could still have the dish, with any other kind of sauce that didn’t contain flour. Let me tell you, they knocked out out of the park. They should always make this dish gluten free, it was that amazing. And my husband had the blackened mahi mahi, and is still talking about it. Way to go, Oar. You’ve proven you are worth the 5 stars tonight, and we’ll never waste our money going to that ridiculously over-priced Smithtown restaurant again that serves only«okay» food. You’re the bomb.

I stretched my review to four stars because the food was creative, well prepared and DELISH. From the outside it looks just like a shanty. The location I bet is wonderful in the summer. Very good service and a lovely place for lunch. Good mix of crowd from seniors to couples. You won’t get bored with the menu even at the sandwich/salad level. A good variety of appetizers and entrees. It doesn’t feel like a fine dining destination but a solid place for lunch with friends.

We have been here twice and look forward to coming back again. We love the bright dining room with lots of plants and an all-glass wall to the canal. Very«marina» feeling with the boats gently swaying right in front of your fresh and perfectly cooked fish lunch. I find this place to be very reasonably priced for the quality of the food and the beauty of the setting.

Good place… I MUST have reviewed this waterfront place with declining service and increasing prices. no? Well, it sure is good, and friendly… busier and busier every year. Live music and an overall good outing… Expect to wait and expect to pay. Hit or miss, inconsistent from okay to great depending what you order. Some friendly staff some not so great, some seem great but really aren’t(you know they type) Go and you’ll probably enjoy it, good atmosphere but a tad pricey for what’s delivered. When you go, have the clams on a half shell if not for anything but the awesome homemade cocktail sauce packed full of horseradish, Bloody Mary with jalapeño bacon is pretty darn good too. I’d like to give me 3.5 so I’ll go to 4 stars instead

Nice spot to have a drink at the bar overlooking the marina, or to enjoy dinner and frozen cocktails on a table by the water. Life is good! Very nice spot to have a few cocktails and some eats while sitting on the deck checking out the boats motoring by, or fantasizing about the yacht you’ll one day. Frozen Razz Ma Tazz Lemonade, Pina Colada, Baked Clams, Shrimp Cocktail, Salads, Coconut Shrimp, and Catch of the Day special. Just a terrific meal to feast on with a great view while watching the sun go down. Live band was playing here too over by the outside bar. Very diverse mix of suburbanites gathered here on the Saturday before Labor Day enjoying the perfect weather. Prices are ok for a spot like this, and can be a bit more considering it’s mainly a seafood menu, but that is the going rate for fish dishes. Was pretty busy when we arrived, but after about a 20 minute wait for a table with an umbrella on the outside deck we were seated quickly. No problem, as we grabbed a spot by the large bar off the deck area and enjoyed a libation while waiting. Also, they have free valet parking here. They do take rservations and it would be a good idea to make them, especially on weekends. We sauntered on in and lucked out on a later Saturday afternoon, but it did get pretty crowded by the time we left.

The view is great and I like that they have a band, but it was grossly hot Sunday and it would’ve been nice if they had more fans around. The food wasn’t bad, but the seafood in my fra diavolo wasn’t cooked all the way. I’ll be back because my friends like it here lol

A great place to hang out on a summer evening of Sunday in the day. Food is not over the top, but decent. Calamari is not bad at all. The band always adds to the fun!

Waterfront dining close to home. I’m amazed it’s taken this long for me to try this place, but I finally made it over here just in time to see what I’ve been missing! On a Friday night this place was packed. We didn’t have reservations and were floored when they told us it was a 2 hour wait. I had confidence though that it we’d get lucky with a shorter wait time and we did– only 40 minutes. Not bad at all; we hung out by the bar and checked back with the hostess after our first drink and we were seated shortly thereafter. Outdoor seating area is really nice; I got to enjoy dinner and drinks while watching the sunset. We started with the calamari as we were starving and needed something to nibble on immediately– this was perfect as it came out super quick. For dinner I had the salmon with a sesame garlic glaze which was delicious. My date had the lobster rigatoni which was rich and tasty too. I would definitely come back here, maybe next time with a reservation… but most likely I’ll just roll the dice and hope to get lucky again ;)

Friday night dinner was fabulous. The wait to sit on the deck was 45 minutes to an hour, but inside with a view was immediate seating. After reading Unilocal reviews we were concerned about the service but either they listened or some Unilocalers are just haters. As busy as it was service was a true 5 stars. The wait staff was moving like a well oiled machine. The Food– 5 stars again. Take your pick everything looked delicious. I had the salmon which was perfect. My wife had the Chilean Sea Bass. Another 5. Food arrived very quickly and a last minute order of raw oysters arrived within a minute of placing order. Seemed like they were waiting for us. You should definitely try this place. You will probably see me there. If you do I’ll buy you a drink.

Really enjoyed our time at The Oar and I would totally come back — despite two snafus that happened while there. We started off with drinks at the outdoor bar since we had to wait for our table. They had a cool band playing and it wasn’t too crowded yet being we came for an early dinner. Cool tiki bar type set up — made you feel like you were on vacation the girls behind the bar were super upbeat and friendly and my white sangria was delish! Finally when seated we had a table on the outside deck as the sun started setting towards the end of our meal it got a bit chilly but for the most part sitting outside was very nice. We started with the baked clams and the coconut shrimp. My husband really liked the baked clams I thought they were just ok the breadcrumbs could of used more seasoning but what was good was the amount of clam pieces you could actually taste it wasn’t just all filling like most baked clams I’ve had. The star of the apps though we’re the coconut shrimp. Large shrimp generously covered with coconut and deep fried. They were crispy but not oily and the shrimp was so juicy. The orange marmalade for dipping wasn’t even needed they stood well on their own. My only problem would be for the price at least give four shrimp to a plate. My husband had the Mahi Mahi for his main which came with saffron mash potatoes and it was topped with a flavorful olive and veggie mix. He absolutely loved it — I tried a bit of the mash and it had very strong saffron taste. I went with the swordfish which was served on top a langoustine and basil risotto. The presentation was very nice and I was enjoying eating it very much until I got into it for a few bites and it was raw in the center! The waiter kinda made it sound like that’s the way it’s supposed to be but I asked him to send it back. They came back with a new plate and the fish was cooked through. The dish I would order again for sure — fish now cooked through was delicious and the risotto though creamy was light and the basil flavor along with langoustine were amazing. The 2nd snafu was we had a gift card and the waiter ran our credit card for the whole bill before looking inside the bill holder and re-ran the card for the actual amount after he noticed the gift card. I just wish he would of told us but instead we found out two days later when looking at our online statement. So we had to call the bank who then said to call the restaurant etc etc and we all know how that goes … Despite I would come back and this time bring cash!

This places makes me wish I had a boat so I could just sail up and get lunch everyday of the summer. the food is really yummy especially the lobster roll. although my only bad comment I will say about it is you only get one side. for me I always get the coleslaw but really coleslaw shouldn’t be considered a side it should be included for the amount you are paying. this is definitely a summer hang out. if your not drinking the rum punch bunch you haven’t lived. friendly staff and great atmosphere.

Love love love this place! I hate the mandatory valet! Super annoying but I am over it LOL Perfect spot for the summer where you can enjoy the scene, the sun, the water and boats. They have plenty of umbrellas to shade you from the sun :) The bar is two sided and one of the sides is open to french doors so you feel like you are outside. We had calamari for appz and they were perfectly cooked and battered. There were two sauces with it… marinara and mayonnaise based spicy sauce. For we had seared tuna salad which was out of this world amazing and fresh. Once again tuna was seared perfectly! I wanted more pieces but there were plenty on the plate(i was just being greedy). My BF had lobster roll which he enjoyed. Bloody Mary… WOWZA! Review by Sassy Natty.

Came here on a Thursday night. Thank God for valet parking! Do not park in the street. There are signs restricting it & the neighbors are watching. Short wait for our table. We sat outside by the water… another great view. A band live band was playing that night. The vibe was calm & romantic. I saw a variety of crowds from girlfriends, to dates, to whole families celebrating. The waitress was nice and attentive. The drinks… I had a cucumber cooler with St Germain. I loved it! The crab dip had actual lumps of crab in it! Yessss!!! My meal was great. I had the catfish with dirty rice. My only issues was the rice had sausage. I wish someonewould have warned me before. But I guess thats my fault for not realizing what dirty rice was. Lol. The service was great. The food was tasty. The scenery is awesome. Do yourself a favor and take a night out to eat here!

Waterside dining I had been hearing about this place for a while and we finally had a reason to pop down so the four of us hit the Oar house for drinks and dinner. The place, like any other on the water in the summer, gets busy. We had about an hour wait for a table(we didn’t have reservations) so they took my cell number and we hit the bar. There are 2 bar areas — we hit the main one in the building proper — which also has an open air component. The second bar is more of a stand a lone affair towards the rear of the outside dining area. The place was bustling but the bartenders were keeping up — and even managed to smile every now and then. The interior of the bar area is decorated in… oars. Imagine that. We finally got a table in the covered area(there are tables not under cover as well) and set about to ordering. The wait staff was very good– the guy had our drinks refilled and bread and water were out in a jiff. Apps got placed and we had a nice time catching up. The mains, in all fairness, took a longer than expected time — even for a summer place. I know to expect it, but this seemed longer than it should have been. The food, when it finally did arrive, was very good so it was worth the wait. All in all a good experience from start to finish. Prices: average waterfront dining costs — it is, what it is. Large valet parking area. Definitely give it a shot.

This is our go-to restaurant in summer. The food is consistently good and we are never disappointed. This gets quite crowded in summer since you can arrive by boat and dock at one of the empty slips. Be sure to call ahead and ask where you can dock. It’s difficult to write about just one meal here since we come here a few times each summer. I would recommend ordering a fish special because the fish is so fresh, and do try to sit outside on a nice day! It can’t be beat!
