The Dairy Hut

Don’t miss the buckeye sundae. You can thank me later! What an awesome little spot for a summer treat. I’ve never had the food, only sweets, but it’s so delicious and reminds me of my childhood at roadside ice cream stands. Seriously, don’t forget about the buckeye sundae.

I’ve lived in Pataskala for a little over two years and I remember seeing this place for the first time. I was on the way to Kroger and I saw the line of people standing outside this «hut.» I thought to myself, «Ok, what’s going on here? This is something that the locals must know about.» And I made a mental note to myself to stop by the following day. After doing a little research, I discover that it was essentially an outside ice cream shop. How quaint! I took my family the following day and was pleasantly surprised with some of the best ice cream and sundaes that I’ve had in years. Of course, they serve other «concession stand» fare: hot dogs, nachos, etc. but the desserts are what the place is known for. They’re only open from March to October (as understandable) and it’s definitely one of secrets here in Pataskala!

No need to post a review here as the Dairy Hut is a local favorite. My husband has been going here since he was a kid and has passed the obsession into our son. Dairy Hut is seasonal so open during the summer — check their Facebook page for details as they have a loyal following.

Anytime I’m on a diet and am on a diet all the time it’s my one cheat place because I know the food is real good and the people are very nice. I get to Coney all the way can a Coke and a strawberry shake

I have only lived in Pataskala for 2 years now, but it was immediately apparent that everyone in town is in love with this place. Sometimes the parking lot is full and cars will park on the side of 310 or across the street in the hardware store’s lot and the line will wind around all of the cars. I finally gave in and tried in about a month ago with my husband and it was definitely all it was cracked up to be. I got the chocolate covered strawberry shake thingy and it was absolutely amazing. It had tons of strawberry chunks mixed right in and the chocolate shell coating that they somehow managed to mix in and drizzle down the inside was amazing! The servings are very large, so keep that in mind when ordering. If the parking and getting out of the lot was easier, my husband and I would probably come here more often. It’s right next to a light and traffic from the light often block you from getting in or out conveniently when they’re busy. It’s definitely doable, but I just don’t like the hassle. I’m a wimp about turning left into traffic!

I grew up with this place. The owners are very nice and so are the staff. They make the best chocolate malt shakes. The comet sauce is also very good. This is a seasonal joint. So they don’t need the paved parking nor a fancy building. The proof is in the pudding, drive by it and it seems always packed.
I do support local and buy local as much as I can.

Amazing ice cream and food! It is always busy but they are always so nice! Prices are great as well! The only thing I don’t like is the smell I don’t know if it is coming from their rain bucket or something but it is pretty foul.

I swear if a place like this ever started delivery my entire family would need to be airlifted out for medical, lol. It it so good! Even if I did not live in the neighborhood this would be a worthwhile trip from at least the East side of Columbus, think food truck charm in an ice cream stand. Fantastic!

Unlike a couple previous reviewers who think they’re to good for pataskala, this place is JUST OKAY and plays the third (or fourth) fiddle in town behind Whits Custard and Turkey Hill ice cream (TH is found in your local Kroger as Kroger bought 50% of TH back in 2010).
You can trust that I know what I’m talking about when it comes to ice cream since I grew up in Pennsylvania Dutch Country and ice cream is my favorite food (besides Hershey’s chocolate).
This place is okay if you’re looking for a lower cost soft serve ice cream with a lot of variety (even though it looks like an eye sore with their stone parking lot and small dilapidated «shed» type building). It’s regular ice cream that is dipped but they put it through this plastic hand crusher that makes the ice cream soft serve. They have 30+ flavors as well. I wish I could give it 2.5 stars but I will be rounding down to 1 for this place (and due to the arrogance of other «customers»).

The Dairy Hut is the only good thing about Pataskala.
