The Rangeland tasting is an intimate experience with a fantastic family. The wines are beautifully made and won’t disappoint.

Hesitant to leave this review, as I really don’t want to share this secret with anyone. Laird and Lisa provide an amazingly personal experience at their estate. The wines are truly magical. Hedonistic, muscular, and at the same time balanced Paso wines. Beef club. When is the last time you’ve been to a winery and you could order cattle-in-a-box? Never. I know. But Laird can make it happen. Bad ass wines and grass-fed beef delivered to your door. Need I say more? P. S. Make sure you throw the ball for their dog Arrow a few times.

My first encounter with Rangeland Wines was in 2011. We were tasting at Thatcher winery and I wandered out back to enjoy the weather. Out back there were a couple people pouring wine for Rangeland, including the then winemaker Shannon. I tried a couple and talked to Shannon for a bit and was thoroughly impressed by both. We joined their wine club on the spot and have been enjoying their excellent wines at home for the past few years. Fast forward to March 2016. We returned to Paso Robles with friends for another wine tasting trip. This time we made an appointment to taste with Rangeland at their winery/ranch. What a great experience! Laird Foshay, one of the owners welcomed us into their home. We tasted their wines at their dining room table and out back on their patio overlooking their vineyards. Laird shared his encyclopedic knowledge of the geology of the area — I bet he could teach a college level class on it if he wanted to. The gracious way he and his wife welcomed us into their home and shared their knowledge of the land and the wine was one of the best experiences we had over the 3 days and 7 wineries we visited. And the wine! They specialize in Syrah and Petite Syrah but all of the varietals and blends we tasted were consistently excellent and reasonably priced. I almost didn’t want to post this review for fear that others will discover and overrun our little hidden gem, but the experience was just too good not to share.

We had a private tasting at Rangeland. What a treat to meet with Laird and Lisa, the owners of Rangeland Wines. It is rare to be able to talk to the owner, feel their passion and vision. We loved it! Come to find out Lisa and share a birthday. Happy Birthday Lisa. We look forward to visiting again and tasting more fantastic wines.

After many years of hearing about Rangeland, and its wines, from friends of ours in the industry, we decided to take the plunge when they had a Valentine’s weekend vertical tasting. W/out going into too many details about the tasting itself, suffice it to say that: A. YES, it was worth the wait and finally going to. B. Their wines we all far above average, some of them well beyond that. C. Laird and Lisa(If memory serves) are superb hosts, very friendly, full of answers to any questions you might have and a true pleasure to be around. D. Of particular note were the library cab sauvs, starting at 2009 or so, the Watershed blend and the Zinfandel. All of them exquisite. We signed up that day and brought several bottles home. Not only that, but we joined their organic beef club. There is also a lamb club available. I could go on, but if you’re familiar with the Paso wine scene, are asking yourself if you want to take the jump to appointment-only wineries(and you’ll see why this one is once you go) and want to be rewarded for having done so, THIS is the place to consider.

Lovely family winery in beautiful country, reasonable prices. The friendly dog who thinks everyone is there to play fetch was a definite bonus. We tasted wine and had a picnic on the patio. Laird and Lisa were great hosts– the tasting is at their house and they responded quickly when we emailed about a tasting. Do them a favor and reach out in advance if you can, but fit in a stop if you get the chance! The property is just beautiful.

I am a big wino and this winery was a big surprise. Great wines and you get to do the tasting with the owner our of his house. Expect very high quality and well balanced wines. One of the best wineries in Paso. Finding/getting to the winery is an adventure. You think you missed it but just keep going and you will see the signs. The drive is a bit interesting and is best done in an SUV. I would be hesitant to do the drive if it is raining a lot as well.

Visiting in the Paso area a couple of weeks ago, we had the priviledge of going to a private tasting at Rangeland Wines and we all agreed that the entire experienvce was truly amazing. Laird the owner, and founder of the winery and ranch is truly a great host! The wines are some of the best we’ve ever tasted, and believe me we are not newbies to the wine world. Rangeland the Ranch is extraordinary! Cattle and sheep grazing, fun time with the ranch doggies, and just an overall wonderful experience. Of course, we brought wine home with us and joined their Wine Club. Don’t pass up this winery, even though it’s a drive off the road, it’s such a perfect setting, with the best views in all of Paso Robles.

Today we had a private tasting at Rangeland Wines, by appointment only. The drive to the ranch was beautiful: sunny, blue skies and green pastures. The owner insisted that we download the directions from the website; otherwise, risk getting lost. Glad we did and we did not have any problem finding Rangeland Wines. We were met with a very friendly border-collie mix who presented us with a tennis ball. We could have played all day! The owner, Lisa, warmly welcomed us into her home(absolutely beautiful) and escorted us outside to the back porch. The views are spectacular. Lisa poured the wines, all red, and all wonderfully organic, full-bodied and delicious. We bought three bottles of the Mistletoe and one bottle of the Petite Syrah. We enjoyed our hour and a half listening to Lisa explain the individual wines, ranching, lambing, tending the vineyards and raising her three children. Thank you, Lisa for an enjoyable afternoon. This winery is worth the trip. I plan on joining the wine club, too.

I went to this winery not knowing it was such a beautiful drive and the fact that it’s all hosted in their awesome ranch house overlooking the vines and land! I was able to learn about the soils, how the wines are different for each one, where their grapes go(including Justin) taste the wine and throw the ball for their very friendly cattle dogs! I was impressed by the wines themselves and took home their Rose’ and 2012GSM. I look forward to visiting again to tour the ranch and see all of their cattle and sheep, as well as learn about their organic meat process. Go visit this one, it’s worth it.

Very nice stop, you are going to travel off the road a bit into some real country. Had to email for an appointment but they got right back to me and we were in there at the time we suggested. Check out the fantastic view from the back of the property, which will really compliment the wines that you are tasting. Laird was a great host and made the stop an interesting one. Just knowing that this place is there might score you some points with your friends as it is not as well advertised.

If you like wine you will love Rangeland. The experience of getting there is amazing as you drive off the beaten path. You need appointments to taste here as they taste at their house and its beautiful. The views are amazing. The wine is great and the people whether it be the owner or their wine maker are extremely knowledgeable. The wines are very tasty reds which the make in small quantities with much love going into their work. This a place to go early in your day so you can stay as long as you want or make it your last stop of the day. For more info go to their website

If small production, off the beaten track wineries that make great wine are your thing then this is the place for you. It is by appointment only, and well worth your time. Laird, the proprietor, was a gracious host, and very knowledgeable about the geology, flora, and fauna in the area(not to mention winemaking also of course). The wine tasting is done at his palatial home, and on their back patio. They are on a hilltop and the views are the best in Paso. There is a playful dog, Arrow, to entertain the kids and other dogs and cats there too. In terms of the wines, I loved their kitchen sink Rose, GSM, and Petite Sirah. Laird let me know that Justin Winery sourced grapes from them for their flagship Isosceles wine for many years before he decided to bottle his own wines. Pretty impressive pedigree!

You dont realize how spectacular this vineyard is until you reach the top of the property. You drive up a long driveway through multiple gates and treated to a scenic view. Once you reach the top you enter the owner’s home. It is not a traditional winery, you are tasting wines in the owner’s backyard and kitchen. It is a very cozy feel, the owners are very friendly and pour some great wine. Not only do they bottle wine, but also offer beef and honey. If you want, there is a house they rent out on their property as well. Word of caution be careful of the electronic fence in the back haha.

No tasting room, but you can make a tasting appt. Information can be found on their website: All reds, and great tasting wines. They also have a great«beef club» where you can purchase affordable healthy, grass-fed beef. Check them out!
