Apparently my review was reported because it addressed«employment issues». My issues are not with employment. I want people to know that the product they receive is not what you pay for and I am saying this as a customer. I’ve purchased sausage, chicken, seasoned tri tip, sandwiches and a number of other items and all were in satisfying. The seasoned tri tip was old and sour with seasonings as an attempt to cover the age. The sausage was mostly fat with foul meat trim and made me sick every time I ate it. I urge you to keep your butchering needs focused on perhaps a well known friend or even a local grocery store.

We stopped in on the recommendation of Laird Foshay, the owner of Rangeland Winery and Adelaidia Springs Ranch. We figured that a guy who raises beef cattle would know good places for meat. We were not disappointed! We bought 3 beautiful tri-tips which we cooked on a Traeger pellet grill and served with Guy Fieri’s bloody mary sauce! The meat was the star of the meal, beautifully marbled but not fatty and melt in you mouth tender. It was St Patty’s Day when we stopped in and they also gave us samples of their corned beef which was also tender ad delicious. If you are looking for great meat in Paso Robles this is the place!

Stumbled across this place a couple of years back and now every time we are in Paso Robles in our 5th wheel we go there to get something wonderful to BBQ for dinner. Wonderful customer service and friendliness. I accidentally ordered a Thanksgiving ham from their other store in Templeton and they kindly took care of me so I didn’t have to take a drive down the hwy to pick it up.

I am a local free range livestock producer. I called J & R meats on June 26th to ask about the black out period because they take in Santa Barbra County Fair animals. I spoke with a gentle man who told me he was the owner. He said the black out starts July 22nd and I can drop off my four hogs any time before then. I asked if the 18th would do and he said yes. On July 10 one of my customers called and gave them cutting instructions. On July 13 I went in and got cut and wrap forms for the other three. On July 17th I called to make sure they had room. The owner told me he never told me to bring in any hogs. I was told to go to Creston Meats. When I asked if Creston had a similar product since I had ever used them I was told«I don’t work at Creston Meats how would I know? Look them up and ca and ask.» My customer also called to ask about her hog because it was scheduled to be dropped off on the 18th as well. She called me upset and said she was talked down to and told that she never called them. I called Creston Meats and although they were just as busy as J & R, I told Simon about my problem and customer he said he would try to help me I am going to end up sending my one customers hog to Creston the other three have to go all the way to Coralitas. I have heard horror stories of people getting wild hogs instead of the domestics they dropped off, having animals switched, and meat shorted. I still recommended J & R because I had had no problems in the pastand they are conveniently just off of 101. This has really hurt my business as I have scheduled customers from this area that will be driving and hour and a half to pick up their hog because J & R Meats over filled their freezers. From this day forth I will not use nor recommend J& R Natural Meats. J & R Natural Meats owner cares more about taking care of out of county fairs then local producers and there claim of support for local ag is a lie. As I was told by J & R Meats employees, if you need something cut and wrapped use Creston Meats from the south and Coralitas Market or Roy’s Swiss Sausage if you are North. DONOTUSE J & R NATURALMEATS!!!

J&R processed a wild pig after a recent hunt. The meat was packaged very professionally and the smoked ham they made was out of this world! They shipped to my house in well packed coolers and at a reasonable rate. Definitely going back.

I will never go back. Last Thanksgiving a friend of ours hunted, shot, and brought in a wild turkey. The day before Thanksgiving our friend arrived at the shop to get the goods. But was given a store bought turkey. He challenged the person behind the counter and was given a bit of grief. Not only that the store bought turkey weighed more and was asked to pay the difference. The person behind the counter also said take it or leave it or I’ll call the police. I tell everyone J&R Meats is horribly rude.

Excellent service and amazing meat! We scored duck/blueberry, buffalo/tequila and cheddar/jalapeño sausages!!! We also grabbed a few pre-marinated steaks! Wow!

I love this location so much better than the one in Templeton. First of all, I don’t eat meat unless it is grass fed, or local grain fed. This is one of the few places I know of where i can find it. They have a long reputation of being the local butcher of locally hunted game animals, and a nice selection of sausages. Unfortunately, the guy running the Templeton store is crazy as fuck, and this location doesn’t sell the Beverly’s free range rotisserie chickens, but you can get them in San Luis at Whole Foods(formerly New Frontiers). I got a great filet mignon roast for Valentine’s day for $ 23. Such a deal compared to $ 20 something a steak(and previously frozen) at Hearst Ranch.

Extremely friendly service from the moment i walked in. Everyone working the front took the time to ask if i have been helped and the workers knew what they were talking about. The second time i went in, a gentleman was making filet mignon and gave everyone a sample. They helped me with picking the right seasoning that was right for me. I am recommending this place to everyone i know.

Great product and experience with staff. Highly recommend this location over Templeton. You’ll get what you need from this staff and more. Templeton… not so much. Meats were fresh and of the highest quality. Will be back.

Love this place! I used to come here all the time a few years ago because I loved their venison cranberry sausage. A little disappointed that they don’t make it quite as often but when I get some more time I will definitely check and see if they have if. They also have local meats here and also process deer and whatever else you got as long as its legal. Really nice and friendly staff and very helpful.

Great family run meat market. They make their own sausage, pastrami, and even pickled tongue! The very friendly, and personable gentleman behind the counter offered me tastes of a wide variety of their products. They have several types of smoked bacon they create, and it is amazing. Absolutely the best meat market on the Central Coast. They make sandwiches to order, as well!

Looked as if the fat cap was taken off a roast, cut into cubes, then labelled it stew meat. Of the pkg(& a half hr of trimming), I was able to salvage only about 25% that was usable.

The best butchery in the Central Coast area, and one of my all time favorite places to get high-quality meats and highly-trained staff who know the craft and art of butchery. They have AMAZING hotdogs — they sell them with or without casings, depending on your preference. I can no longer have a Hebrew National hotdog, or any other type of hotdog, because J&R has ruined me — I’m in love with theirs only! I’m used to big-city upscale butcher departments in fancy grocery stores, and I lived abroad where the butchers still own their own shops and take great pride in what they do. J & R Natural Meats(Templeton location near Trader Joe’s) definitely can stand on its own, even against the«big city» expectations I often have. In fact, it is among the best butcheries I’ve ever shopped at — the butcher is very knowledgeable, skilled and clearly takes pride in his high-quality work. Don’t mistake his serious demeanor for unfriendliness — he might be a person of few words, but when he does have something to share, it is always helpful and en pointe. If you are serious about cooking and eating well and eating right, this is the place to go.

Mmmmm… mouth-watering goodness! This place was awesome! I got the Rib eye sandwich and was in meat heaven… Would have never found this place had it not been recommended by a guy at the Sculpterra winery in the area. The staff is fabulously helpful, I wish I lived in the area so I could go back more often.

J&R has am amazing selection of fresh, locally supplied naturally grown beef, pork, lamb, buffalo and chicken. Yes, they have grass fed. Everything is vacuum packed. This is the kind of place you rarely see any more — local meats, family owned, super high quality, cut to order. I won’t be shopping for my meats anywhere else on the central coast. Check them out and I promise you will be back again and again. It’s the real deal.
