My mother got sent to the Californian after a stay in the hospital. The Admissions person said that she arrived with no paperwork from Huntington Hospital. I find that hard to believe. Even so, mother had been at the Californian just 3 years prior, but no records exist of that time. The service staff is very nice and responsive. The administration is the worst. I’d receive a call from one administrator stating the my mother had to be out by Noon the next day. When called back, no one had any recollection of making the call. The Social Worker forgot appointments and every phone conversation. The head administrator, when informed of the horrible service, claimed to have no knowledge of any problems. Just glad to get mother out of that horrible place!

if i could give them no stars i would. i was refered by a hospice company at Huntington memorial. i went to tour the place and before they would even give me a tour i had to prove that my dying mother had medicare otherwise they show you the door. the facility is nice. the perky girl gave me the tour and i explained my situation to her. she made it sound all so nice and how they take special care to give hospice patients seperate rooms out of courtesy. Wow i thought this is so wonderful it will make her feel better being in a such a beautiful place as she leaves this world. i go back to the hospital as excited as anyone can be with a dying mother and tell her all about this beautiful place she will be transferred to. My Dad thinks it sounds great as they have been together for almost 70 years. So we tell the hospice company ok we are on board. they fax all the paper work only to come back and tell us. Oh im sorry they dont have any space for your Mom. Are you fricken KIDDINGME ! the hardest decision i have ever had to make, given a tour after jumping through hoops and you dont have a room. Hey Stupid Tour person do you think you could havd told me that in the beginning and not wasted my time and broken a dying womans heart?

My father-in-law was here recovering from pneumonia. At the initial review, everything looked pretty great but it wasn’t long until I noticed some«cracks.» There are some nurses assistants that appeared to be indifferent and not very compassionate with patients. I didn’t glean much warmth from the administration, either. In addition, several times when I was visiting, it seemed the place was short of staff. The times I was there during meals, the food did not look very appetizing. I don’t want to dump on the whole place because there are some really wonderful people that work there.
