Fortune Fencing

Fortune Fencing are now located in Monrovia (google ‘em). I took classes with Amy and Geoff when they were at the Pasadena location but I can’t imagine the set up has changed much. They were both great coaches and deserve some Unilocal love — check out the filtered reviews; they’re wholly accurate and don’t deserve to be relegated to the hidden shadows of Unilocaldom. The problem with Fortune, as with any niche sport, is that there’s really nowhere to go once you’ve finished the beginner course. Your fellow newbs all flake and disappear and you’re left on your own with nothing but 10 year old kids and semi-​professionals to practice with. That’s not the fault of Amy or Geoff, it’s just the nature of the game, but it is frustrating. I’d have loved to have kept it up — few sports are as much fun as fencing — but I never had anyone in my ability range to play with! I still recommend these guys without reservation: just make sure you take some friends.
