Great service, excellent pizza! The crust was delicious and the grated Parmesan made for a nice change. Forget the local fast food restaurants, try Shorty’s!

From the captivating aroma as you pull in, to the amazing Ceasar Salad with house made dressing, and the stellar pizza, obviously using the best ingredients, it’s unforgettable. John served us well! Great date night on the patio.

I was passing through Parkersburg on a business trip and it was getting later in the night so there were not that many dinner options open to us. We found Shorty’s and ordered the Manzo Primo to go. There was a nice blend of wood-fired taste without too crispy of a crust that we both really enjoyed and the workers there(along with Shorty himself) were really friendly and down-to-earth.

I’m a really huge fan of Margherita pizza, and as far as the mid-Ohio Valley has, this is the best. We’ve only done take-out orders, but the small patio looks like a great place to have a really good pizza, but in a congested location.(Not their fault, though!) The pizza here(I’ve had Margherita, Manzo Primo, and the Red Ragin Cajun) has a near perfect crust that’s just the thickness I’d prefer, and the wood-fired baking makes a difference. The pies are slightly pricey(if you base on local or national chains available), but you are absolutely paying for quality. The Margherita’s fresh mozzarella and basil are top notch. It’s my favorite by far. As an appetizer, we’ve done the Wood Fired Bluefin Crab dip, and it’s very, very creamy and delicious. My only issue with that(and it could just have been the time we brought it home), was that the dip-to-crostini ratio was a bit off. I had far more dip than I had crostini, but was able to save the leftovers for the next day with some bread I’d picked up at the store. If this restaurant would ever go full-service(even with just seating — not even talking full bar), I would up my rating to 5 stars. However, if the place just wants to trade a small storefront for better ingredients, the I’ll pick the food and eat it from the comfort of my couch.

Service on the patio was excellent. Well versed in the menu, fast and polite. Pizza was good– tasty, but crust was a little too thin for my liking.

My husband and I were passing through Parkersburg, WV and wanted to try some local fare. We agreed on Shorty’s after reading several positive Unilocal reviews. I’m so glad we stopped here! We ordered a 16″ basil and capicola pizza. The crust was superb– not too thick, not too thin, with a great wood-fired flavor. The toppings were extremely fresh; be sure to order the grated Parmesan cheese. We also took some chips for the drive home– WOW! You cannot go wrong with those. In addition, the service was top notch. Our server was very professional and attentive.(We didn’t find out that he was Shorty until the very end!) Do yourself a favor and stop here for a quick bite. You won’t be disappointed.

We’ve carried out a couple times from Shorty’s(with excellent results) but we ate on their patio for the first time this weekend. It’s a very comfortable environment and kept very clean. The proximity to Murdoch Ave can cause a bit of noise, but it’s usually nothing overwhelming. The server was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the food. It’s a tad on the pricey side but with food this fresh and unique, you certainly get what you pay for. We had the Shorty’s Chips appetizer which was deep-fried zucchini slices with roasted garlic cloves, parmesan, and red pepper flakes. They were excellent. The group I was with had the Blue Crab Creation pizza and loved it. I heard the words«best pizza I’ve ever had» used. Lump blue crab, artichokes, peppers, onions, three cheeses, and white sauce on their delicious crust. I’m not a seafood fan so I had the Shorty’s Club sandwich. It consisted of roasted turkey, a spicy ham called tasso, and swiss on their house-made roll with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. It was very tasty, very large, and very filling. We will definitely eat here again in the future. It’s no wonder that Shorty’s took 1st Prize at NAPICS2014 and was subsequently invited to join the US Pizza Team for the World Pizza Championships in Italy.

This pizza is highly overrated on Unilocal. It is truly nothing special and it is a bit pricy. I’m new to the area, and for anyone else new to the area you should understand that food in this area is generally pretty bad compared to more modernized places. The pizza was by no means bad, but the recipes are uninspired, the sauce is downright boring, and the crust is bland. It is not at all worth the price of admission.

Great pizza and they actually listen to what a customer wants, which is rare in P’burg. It’s always a pleasure to eat their cuisine.

I just wanted to update my review again to point out that Shorty’s has an outdoor eating area now. We tried it last night and it was the same Shorty’s food, but hotter and fresher!

Being from Chicago, I’m picky about pizza. But this stuff in Parkersburg, WV was delish! Loved seeing the wood stacked next to the restaurant which is used in the wood-fire process. We had 2 large pizzas and they were devoured in 10 minutes after a long trip from the beach. Thanks guys! We’ll be back.

Whoever owns this business is facing an interesting situation. The pizza I had(Manzo) was among the best pies I have ever eaten anywhere, including Chicago or NYC. Yeah, it’s THAT good. Problem is the guy taking the orders on the phone and onsite is overwhelmed by what appeared to sound like drunks and potheads dreaming up combinations on the fly and taking 10 minutes to do so, slowing things to a crawl for everyone else. Maybe get a second order line that talks stoner and frees up help for walk-in’s and such. At the end of the day it’s still worth the hassle. Crazy good pizza.

The best place to get pizza in Parkersburg outside of The Pizza Place. So far, I’ve been there twice, and my only complaint would be that the margherita pizza was pretty light on the cheese. I know that it’s a pizza that’s typically light on the cheese, but this was pushing it. I must say that it was pretty good all the same. I hear great things about their non pizza menu items, but I have yet to try them. Everything is fresh and tasty, so give them a chance. This is a local business that deserves your support.

I have had pizza all over the eastern United States and as far west as Las Vegas Nevada. Shorty’s stands shoulder to shoulder with any artisan pizza I have ever had. Truly phenomenal. I consider myself lucky to have this eatery in my neighborhood!
