Was in the area and decided to go in and give them a look upon discovering they were under new management/ownership. Was trying to find ammo or Glock accessories/mags. The premises are dingy and sparse, with limited selection on everything. They have some antiques(which are marked up to reflect paying the store’s overhead and to which alternatives can be found if one does a basic Internet search) and some carry pistols; some rifles, but very limited selection, as well as a selection of «high cap» mags. Ammo selection was extremely limited and higher in price than the market rate. I was not greeted upon entry, nor engaged or offered help. This is ok as I’m one who prefers to be left alone to browse, but the staff didn’t acknowledge me beyond answering questions, which seemed to be more of an inconvenience for the guy at the computer. Overheard a phone call while there; the caller was looking for a SCAR. The gentleman at the computer was rude and curt with the caller, then provided inaccurate information regarding availability, saying he couldn’t get one and no one else could either. He also failed to offer alternatives to his shop for the caller’s needs. A previous customer came in after having shot his new Glock over the weekend with basic upkeep questions and needs. The staff was poorly educated on what to offer and use, as well as useful information beyond Glock marketing material. This is a poorly managed shop with poor selection and high prices. Avoid if there are other local options.

I bought a Glock 17 Gen 4 from Pony Express Firearms yesterday. I worked with jim there over the phone and in store for the purchase and required paperwork. Jim was pro and helpful. The Glock is – well, it’s a Glock isn’t’ it! Chris

Wish I had read this before I even bothered trying to talk to these guys. Yes, the establishment is poorly lit and dingy. The selection is two fold: antiquity(guns that really look like they might crumble when you pick them up) and AR types(decorating one wall like the cash cows they are). But what reaaaly erk’ed me was that the customer service was blindly insulting. I went in looking for a specific Ruger 10 – 22 variation and upon arriving and seeing that they didnt carry it, I shrugged, no big deal. So I asked openly to the collective of guys draped behind the counter what the ffl order fee etc would be from Ruger and. the owner/leader of the group interrupts me and says«why dont you just buy one of our guns»… gesturing to the wall. I respond with«well, because I want this model.» Returning to my previous line of questioning regarding ordering and FFL fee’s he tells me that he would rather just take my $ 40 bucks and be done with it. So, wish granted. I walked out knowing that this place has to be hemorrhaging cash and therefore wont ever be able to offer a decent price on any gun in store. A few weeks later iron horse armory opened up and when i went wondering in they actually had the model sitting there on the shelf! what sweet serendipity! and even though pony express is closer, i would never in a million years go in there to buy ammo, or a holster, or even a stick of gum. Heed the warnings.

I visited this shop a couple months ago. My service experience was quite a bit different than the other reviews. When the older gentleman behind the counter asked if he could help me with anything, I told him I was in the research phase of choosing a CCW pistol. He was very informative. He went over advantages of revolvers vs semiautos and vice versa. He discussed concealabilty traits of different pistols, and had no problem letting me compare a couple side by side. He showed none of the classic gunstore traits of brand elitism, and still had some good things to say about even the most inexpensive selections on their shelves. Overall I was pleasantly surprised with his openness and willingness to share information and experiences with someone he knew was not there to buy. Only thing keeping this review from being 5 stars is that their pricing is a bit higher than average in the area.

Stopped in and asked if they do trades. They said yes so I went and grabbed 2 rifles from home. I was looking to trade the both for a small carry gun $ 300-$ 400. One was a vintage rifle and the other was a shot gun, both in good shape. The guy tells me he will give me $ 200 for the pair! I had just checked on how much they run. The rifle is going any where from $ 350-$ 500 and the shot gun is $ 250-$ 300. I understand it’s a business and they have to make money but… I was willing to take trade value of only $ 300-$ 400 but really?! $ 200?! This shop is a rip off! I like the idea of helping out small business but not going to get ripped off either! I will never go there again! I will make sure everyone knows not to go there. I hope this helps save some people. Beware!

It’s really too bad that when people own a business they don’t understand the meaning of customer service. My wife and I visited this establishment yesterday. Two men sitting behind the counter and didn’t even acknowledge our presence. They didn’t even look up. We were the only ones in the store. I know one of them was the owner bc we made a higher end purchase from him in September. We looked around for a minute and decided to leave. It was almost awkward, like we were cutting in on their time. Our next purchase will be made at 5280 armory. They are far more attentive to their customers. It’s a shame, this place is so close to where we live.

Formerly Rocky Mountain Guns and Ammo I came into this shop when I saw that it was under new management/ownership as I had a poor experience with the previous operation. I needed a gunsmith and found Billy Mayfield working in the shop. I need a Winchester Model 21 worked on as this is a pretty expensive gun wanted someone that was competent and confident that they could do the work. Mr. Mayfield assured me he could but told me he would have to take his time on the work. I said that was ok but didn’t understand that after months he would have done nothing on my gun. I called Mr. Mayfield checking in for the fourth time to get a status on my gun. I was told again that he hadn’t even looked at it yet so I told him that my wife was in town and would stop by and pick it up as I wouldn’t wait any longer. This shop is back on my no go list and I won’t try them again.
