Great variety. Great prices. Friendly people. A must stop on the Fruit Loop! My wife and I love this place.

This place was awesome. They have dozens and dozens of apple & pear varieties for purchase, including a bin of assorted apples for only .39 cents per pound. They also had an apple & pear tasting that, for $ 3, you can sample EVERYTHING. It was amazing — now we know exactly which kinds are our favorites. For the kids, they had a really cool wooden fort and hay rides. We will definitely come back here next year.

Loved this orchard. Amazing assortment of apples and pears. Inviting, friendly, and organized. Nice little play area in back for children. Attractive grounds. We will definitely be back!

This is a place we go every fall without fail. They have an amazing selection of apples, pears, and other fruit. They are really friendly, and offer tastes of many of the varieties of fruit they sell. They also have a fun kids area in the back, and in some weekends have food booths and other fun events going on.

This place is awesome. Not organic yet but they are on their ways becoming certified. We went on a Sunday and it wasn’t too crazy crowded. Lots of different types of apples and pears. Also a great place for families and toddlers.

Hands down the best stop on the Fruit Loop! Not only big and a great variety, but there’s so much to keep the kiddos entertained from the amazing wooden play structure to the tractors to all the wagons that make exploring the rows and rows of apples easy and fun! Follow it up with a visit to the DELICIOUS Apple Valley BBQ just a couple of minutes away, and you have an amazing day indeed!

Very friendly staff and great place to pick apples. Call ahead to find out which apples are ripe. They allow sampling apples while you are picking them unlike most other places. Wear lots of sunscreens and a hat.

Large variety of apples/pears as mentioned in other posts. I think what this family farm has over a lot of the others is just a genuine warm family feeling to it from the kindness of the owners and staff and the green yard with kid playground in the back. What a great place!

Best apple picking ever. All of the people here Are helpful, kind and accommodating. Their prices for u-pick are the same as for purchasing outright! The orchards themselves are well labelled and maintained. Bonus– there is a beautiful view of the mountains from their front yard.

How could you not want to stop at an orchard that offers 80 varieties of apples? Ok, they don’t have 80 varieties at one time, but they certainly have a good amount at one time and there will definitely be varieties you’ve never heard of. On top of that the prices are going to be much better than you find at your local grocery store. From what I saw prices ranged from $.49-$ 1.99/lb. For $.49 you’ll see a few that you could easily pick up at any grocery store. $ 1.99 veered toward the Honey Crisps, but also Crimson Crisps which I had never seen before and therefore took home a few. Another variety that I’ve really enjoyed is the Tsugaru. I was definitely looking for apples I had never heard of. You could definitely kill a few hours here especially if you go the U-Pick route. They have that here too and even though the weather was so-so it seemed like a good amount of people were out there. Kiyokawa is not really on the fruit loop, but it is only 1.5 miles south of Parkdale. Well worth the short drive.

I went apple picking here with my friend Lindsey last October and we had a great time! Sooooo many kinds of apples! I think I picked 30 pounds? We definitely did between the two of us. I loved seeing all the variety. There were apples the size of bell peppers(Hanners Jumbo I think it was called) and also the most perfect, apple-y apple I have ever seen. It was bright red, with a little leaf on its stem. It was so perfect, I gave it to my teacher. The apples were cheap, it was fun to pick despite the rain and cold, and now I have pints and pints of apple butter and apple sauce to last me until next fall. Their little store part is nice, too, with already picked apples(and apple samples), jams, jellies, and stuff like that. They also have tomatoes and strawberries, but those weren’t doing so well in October.

Love the variety of apples they have! There’s nothing that tastes as good as a freshly picked apple. Also, the pricing here is amazing, I wish we could have taken some more back to LA with us. Prices are between $ 0.49-$ 1.50/lb, with most stuff just $ 0.75 a pound! I would go crazy with baking and making apple sauce if we lived in Portland. We tried one variety called Elstar that was super crispy, sweet and tangy. The perfect apple. Try it if you’re there in season! Also, apparently in the fall they have hay rides on the weekends.

We stopped in here while touring the Fruit Loop. They have an awesome selection of apples, pears and other fruits and veggies. If you really need to get back to your farming roots, you can go pick apples directly from the trees. They also had the best apple butter ever!

We say«woohoo!» about Kiyokawa Family Orchards for many things. Let’s count half a dozen. 1. Kiyokawa grows maybe four dozen kinds of apples and a couple dozen pear varieties, including heirlooms that are hard to find elsewhere. Like Ashmead’s Kernel apple, which should be available about now — mid October — for a taste of what old time apples were like. On our last day of September visit we bought perhaps the best, fresh off the tree Honeycrisp apples we have ever had, lovely Tsugaru apples, and delicious pears including harder to find Packham and Flemish pears. 2. On this particular day, although it was on the cusp of the Hood River Pumpkin Days celebration, Kiyokawa was the only farm stand, of the several we visited that day, to have big pumpkins out for sale.(see photo) Yay! 3. Friendly people work at the farm stand, who know about the products for sale, are eager to offer samples if customers want to taste the fruit varieties, and speak glowingly of «the boss» as a guy who«believes in doing the right things». 4. Thumbs up for Kiyokawa’s integrated approach to farming. Orchards border Evan’s Creek and the Kiyokawa orchards owners maintain a riparian border zone to allow native critters to thrive. They use Kestrel boxes on property to encourage those raptors to take up residence and help with natural rodent control. And they’ve planted a pollinator’s garden to help attract hummingbirds and butterflies. 5. A BIG fifth star for the paved parking lot for their farm stand. This makes it easily possible for all people, including people pushing strollers, or using wheelchairs, or with unsteady balance due to toddlerhood or old age or injury to easily and safely get into the farm stand and shop. We reward that kind of inclusive«all shoppers are welcome here» perspective with our feet and wallet.(PS — This is, by the way, one of the«right things» the staff mentioned the owner believed in doing.) Woohoo! 6. Located in Parkdale, it is a beautiful drive to get to Kioykawa and as added bonus they’re just minutes from downtown Parkdale to stop by Apple Valley BBQ( ) for homemade pie. Or a delish veggie burger. Or pie. Or pear coleslaw. Or pie. Or BBQ. Or… did I say pie? What a lovely way to spend a day! And what wonderful fruit you’ll get to enjoy for days to follow as you munch on your purchases from Kiyokawa Family Orchards.

This is a pretty awesome family orchard serving up a huge variety of apples and pears. You could almost say that they’re the apple of my eye. Seriously though, this orchard offers a very large selection even in an off year like this one, with much more to choose from than any other orchard in the area. We stopped in during harvest festival, when they have a huge fort and pinatas for the kids, a taco truck and band, hayrides, and of course, are selling the hell out of some apples. I appreciate that the orchard is no-spray, as mixing thin-skinned apples and pesticides is a recipe for disaster. However I’d appreciate it even more if they were organic(hence the lack of 5th star). Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the Fruit Loop and want to stock up on a huge variety of tree fruit!

By far the best apple orchard on the Fruit Loop. Kiyokawa has the largest and widest selection of apples, including many hard-to-find heirloom varieties. Staff is friendly and they usually have pre-cut samples waiting in each apple bin. We look forward to heading out to Hood River every fall, sometimes multiple times during the season, to pick up lots of tart, crisp apples.

spent a delightful Sunday wandering around Mt Hood in search of fall fruit. Picked apples at Kiyokawa Orchards. Loved the variety available. Even learned a trick of how to pick apples properly –index finger by the stem and rotate the apple down. Makes it nice and easy!

Get off your duff & go for a hike or bike out Hood River way. It’s only a hour east of PDX and on the dry side of the mountain. Breath in the fresh air, commune with nature, & burn some calories. Then treat yourself to some of the most delicious and freshest fruit on the planet at Kiyokawa Family Orchards in Parkdale. These guys have a mindboggling variety of apples, pears, asian pears and more. They start picking in September and go through the end of October. My SU& myself happened on Kiyokawa’s after a hike at Tamanawas Falls, we tasted the 6 varieties of apples on hand for the first day they were open. All delicious all different. Settled on a couple of pounds of Earligold and Red Gravensteins. When we started to drive away we came to our senses, turned around and bought a box of the Red G’s so that we could treat our friends and family. This excursion makes for a great Fall weekend day trip and excuse to get out of town. Too busy? You’re in luck — you can buy Kiyokawa fruit at almost any Portland farmers market. But if you want the full orchard experience or want to pick a peck yourself — set sail for Parkdale this weekend.
