Was very excited to try French Fry heaven for the first time yesterday at the Paramus Mall as I love boardwalk fresh cut fries. Unfortunately, these do not hold a candle to the fresh cut AC boardwalk fries you get down the shore. Believe it or not, even though the fries are cooked in front of your eyes, they came out cold. Yes, cold. when was the last time that happened? I’m fairly sure they just passed off a pre-made batch to me. The potato cut was also pretty lame. Additionally, a word of advice to the owner; have the salts available for the customers so they don’t have to reach around the plastic glass. same goes for ketchup. you shouldn’t have to ask for ketchup or napkins. they should already be out on the counter. It’s french fries for christ’s sake.

I got the Baked Tater Fries(fries loaded with sour cream, american cheese, bacon bits, and chives) & got a free angel fries with cheese. I didn’t even pay for the latter. It was my first time trying it. However, the bacon isn’t fresh nor are the chives. I mean, I can’t expect much from mall food. The fries were crispy, but the lack of freshness made me discontinue eating it. Just get a small size to try for your first time.

I recently found out about French Fry Heaven via the column«Table Hopping with Rosie», a.k.a. Rosie Saferstein, a food writer for . She puts out a weekly restaurant list entitled«Openings and Closings,» and upon seeing this place under the openings list I nearly had an «O.» French fries are one of my favorite foods, and in my opinion they are one of the ultimate comfort foods in life… whether eaten alone, as an appetizer, or as a side accompanying a burger or sandwich. I eat them way too often, yet not quite enough. I don’t know why I have even thought about this since it will never actually happen, but I have often considered that a life lived without French fries would be a pretty bleak one. Although I don’t live very close to the Garden State Plaza(and I pretty much HATE the mall) I made it a priority to get there ASAP, and so I did by that very same weekend that I found out about their existence. Over the years I have taught myself not to get too excited about any particular places because they never do seem to ever live up to my expectations… and when you put something up on a pedestal and then they do not measure up, it is the utmost disappointment. I should have remembered this. Sadly, I don’t have anything good to say about French Fry Heaven… the portions are small and overpriced(around $ 5), the fries dry, and the toppings crappy. I tried the large size(are you kidding?) Baked Tater fries which were supposed to mimic a loaded baked potato(cheese, bacon bits, ranch, chives). They are served in a paper cone which makes them look very presentable, but also makes it quite hard to maneuver with and does not allow many fries to be coated with the toppings. I am surprised that I was dying to try the Baked Tater since I cannot stand Cheez Whiz for the life of me, and they use either that or some similar version of it. I really wish that chemical cheese was banned completely. It is just plain awful. Besides that, I am not even sure if there were any chives on top, and the fries themselves couldn’t get any drier and less flavorful. I hadn’t eaten anything all day so this was supposed to be something that would be both divinely satisfying and also hold me over until dinnertime. It did neither. I am so much more satisfied after getting a hot buttered, salted pretzel… and I eyed them longingly across the way. As my husband and I were starting to leave the manager asked his opinion of the fries, in which he decried that they were just average, and quite dry. There was no response back though! I did note another gentleman who had actually returned his fries under the guise that they were too salty, and had asked for his money back. Now this seems rather absurd since French fries are not exactly known as a healthy food, and it is not unusual for them to be pretty salty. The funny thing is that they were not salty at all, but perhaps he ordered one of the options with the sprinkled«seasonings» on top… and we all know that restaurant«seasoning» usually translates to «sodium.» Since our experience was not fulfilling in any way I couldn’t bear to push off dinner any longer. And so we ended up going to Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar… and getting more fries. The Double Truffle Fries at Zin were delicious, and well worth the money! I highly recommend skipping French Fry Heaven… these spuds were duds! :P

I was very excited when I saw this place as I entered the Garden State Plaza. It is right next to the carousel by the entrance near the Best Buy and Ruby Tuesday. I got the small French fries with Parmesan and Garlic sauce. My boyfriend got just ketchup with Ghost Pepper Salt. I definitely recommend getting the to go container even if you sit there and eat it, because the method of giving you French fries leaves something to be desired. They give them to you in a paper cone, and then put the sauces or salt on top and put a wooden fork in, too. This means that the sauces are only on the top fries and the rest are just dry. So we got the to go containers and poured out the fries and mixed the sauce onto all the fries. The price was also pretty steep, but for a specialty food place like it is, it was about what I expected. Nothing too amazing, I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here, but if I do stop by the GSP again I will — I would like to try more flavors.
