I had cataract surgery a couple of months ago, and was excited about getting new glasses and being able to see again. I’ve been dealing with the same local optometrist for 20 years, and when they told me recently they were using a different lab, I didn’t think anything of it because I’ve never had a problem in all these years with glasses they’ve had made for me. I did notice that it took longer than usual to fill the prescription – about 10 days, when I used to get glasses back in about a week. I have rimless frames, and when they came back from the lab, the frames were mounted crookedly to the lenses. I also noticed that one of the nose pads was also mounted backwards, with the pad toward the lens. I had them sent back to re-mount the crooked side of the frames. It took another 10 full days, even though they only had to re-create one lens. When the glasses came back, the frame was still crooked on the same side, and this time the replacement lens was a completely different shape and – oddly – a totally different prescription! Everything was fuzzy through the new lens, distant or close up, and it was in no way like the first lens they sent. So the glasses went back again. I felt that this time, the lab owed me some compensation – either a discount or priority processing and shipment, just something to compensate for their sloppiness. This time, it took two full weeks to get my glasses back(during which time I struggled with eye strain and headaches from having to wear my old glasses). Today, they glasses finally came back, and… guess what… they’re still crooked! Better than before, but this time the bridge is also slightly crooked. The replacement lens is still not the same shape as the other lens(though it, too, is closer in shape), and the prescription feels very weird. It’s better than the second lens they sent, but not the same as the first lens they shipped me. I no longer have any faith that J & J can or ever will fill my prescription adequately, and I’ve asked my optometrist to have these glasses completely re-made by a different lab. I feel like J & J owes me a full refund for making we wait a whole month for glasses that are still not right after THREE tries. Strongly recommend that all practitioners think twice about dealing with this lab and that patients request that their providers not have their prescriptions filled by J & J.
