What a joke. Hal is nice, but thats it. The mechanics are a joke. If you want to ever pass smog go to another shop.

Hal’s automotive did a excellent and speedy job! We came all the way from Orland just to get our car smogged. They have great prices! Thanks Hal’s automotive for doing a fantastic job!

I’ve taken my cars to hals for about 6 years now. I have always been treated nicely and with great respect. He always kept me informed and has told me exactly what my car needed by showing me and fully explaining what the car needed done. I don’t take my car anywhere else.

I had a different experience than the previous reviewer, but I am also knowledgeable about automotive repair. We had them install a distributor on a ’99 Mercury Villager where we supplied the parts. They gave us an estimate and did the work required without any up-​charges. I dealt directly with Hal and found him to be knowledgable & reasonable. I think I might have him do the clutch on my WRX next and we will see how that goes (and I will update my review then).

Ok, so here is my second review on that repair from a few months ago. A few additional things have surfaced since then. First — this place messed up my exhaust system. All I needed was to have an exhaust stud drilled out. My car is european, so all they had to do was drop the header pipe and do the repair. These guys pulled the entire exhaust system apart to do this job, then screwed it up when they put it back together. Within a few days after the job, my muffler fell off its mounts, which were broken, and now all kinds of squeaks, whistles and rumbles are coming out of the various pipes and mounts on the exhaust system. When I drove it into the shop, the only noise was from the manifold stud area — the seal wasn’t tight because the stud was broken. Now, the whole thing is a mess and needs to be fixed. In addition, I had to tighten down all the nuts on the manifold with a torque wrench myself when I got home — they were freaking loose! Hal won’t accept responsibility — claims it came into the shop that way. NO F****** WAY, HAL!
