ACME Markets

There is nothing particularly special about this Acme store. It’s simply the nearest grocery near me. It’s where I go when I need to get run-​of-​the-​mill groceries, deferring to other nearby speciality of fuller-​line stores for other items.

It is HORRIBLE NOW! There used to be this very kind cart person named Buzz. Now that he’s gone, the store is overpriced in an overly developed shopping center.

Lunch time! I just bit into my sandwich made from lunch meat sliced and purchased a day ago from this Paoli Acme and its filled with plastic. And it’s not just a small error — every piece of meat has plastic around the edge. The Deli worker who sliced my lunch meat never pulled it back far enough. Really?/! Thanks for my plastic sandwich. Nice to see one of your deli workers has no standards or pride in his/​her job.

I have been shopping at this Acme for several years, I think I will be buying meats, especially chicken some where else. On Sunday 3÷30÷2014 I bought a Whole Lancaster Brand Chicken to make soup.
When I took the insides out I was SCHOCKED by what I found.
Attached to the Liver was an Green elongated 1 inch growth/​tumor, part of the liver near the Green thing was also green. I took the chicken back to the store and showed it to the clerks, they couldn’t believe it either. They of course gave me my money back. I sent an email to Acme/​Lancaster Meats, I doubt I’ll hear back from them.
Its enough to make you go Vegan, who knows what we humans are ingesting. I would really like to know what the heck the thing is.
Where can you buy REALLY free range hormone free chicken?

Go for the seafood!
This Acme’s seafood department is just fabulous. Actually it’s the one thing they may do better or price better than Wegman’s. They often have small clams for spaghetti alle vongole, which is hard to find when everywhere else (incl. Wegman’s and Seafood USA) you can only get bigger Little Necks. A whole bag is just $ 9.99. Fabulous Alaskan crabs and a great value on fresh fish, too. The main guy at the seafood dept is really nice and always has great cooking advice.
…and the fried chicken!
The other thing this Acme does well is hot fried chicken. The aroma permeates the store, so it tempts me each and every time I enter. Discounted on Mondays (Cheep Chicken Mondays).
…and your drugs!
The pharmacists are also helpful, efficient and kind.
Just don’t go for your general grocery shopping.
This Acme loses its fifth star because the rest of the store is somewhat overpriced. It’s been getting better as of 2014. It must be because they offer more selection than they actually sell, so we pay for what we don’t buy. :-/

This Acme (a larger one) is on my way to work so today I literally ran in and out at 7:20 AM for a quart of milk and box of instant oatmeal packets.
The place was nearly empty at that hour so it was no biggie.
Friendly cashier, too.
No issues and I know I’ll be back.
This is the Acme on Rt. 252 near Rt. 30 in Paoli.

Was in there for the first time in several years and prices are rediculous!!! Skip Acme and go to Wegmans instead!

This is by far one of the better Acme’s in this area. Very clean store, well stocked, large produce area. it is a very pleasant shopping experience.
Why only 3 stars, it is because Acme, as a chain, is one of the HIGHEST priced stores around. in many cases prices are 30−50% higher than Giant, Genardi’s and other competitors.
So if you don’t mind paying higher prices I would recommend this store. But if you’re like me, price means more, thus the 3 stars.
