This place is conveniently located, very close to Mitchell Park and the Palo Alto library. So, after much sweating at the playground on a sunny day, the kids truly enjoy a visit to Rick’s. The mango sorbet is very good, with strong flavor and nice texture, not just some frozen colored sugar water. The masala chai is also very good, with very strong body. On their van there is a slogan: «Life is short, so eat some ice cream first.» That’s the spirit.

after watching the big game on Sunday n stuffing ourselves with chicken wings, tator tots, n plenty of IPAs; we knew we had to celebrate the Patriots’ loss with some dessert.(boohoo Pats.) I searched the area for anything cold n sweet. lo n behold, Rick’s Ice Cream popped up on Unilocal! it’s located on Middlefield Road in a tiny strip mall. there’s a large sign by the side of the street with all the shops’ names on it including Rick’s Ice Cream. u have to drive kinda slow to c it. there’s also a large grocery store next to the strip mall. upon entering the cute little shop, I noticed it’s an ode to the nostalgic ice cream shop of yesteryear. they have a HUGE menu of all kinds of desserts n ice creams they create.(i.e. ice creams, sundaes, supreme sundaes, shakes, floats, banana splits, hot drinks, cakes, fudge, cupcakes, n cake pops.) the shop is also filled with the aroma of freshly made waffle cones. yep, I actually witnessed an employee making some! there’s even a small seating area in the back for kids’ parties. they have SO many flavors of ice cream that I haven’t even seen before. I haven’t the inkling how they even come up with such cool flavor combos. I got one scoop of Nutella in a freshly-made waffle cone. my friend got a scoop of their Vanilla with Red Wine. OMG. their ice cream is so rich n creamy.(as advertised!) I’m so happy I’ve found another awesome place for high quality desserts. I’ll have to come back to try some of their other homemade concoctions. they all sound so good!

The server was very patient when I and my family asked to try out different flavors as it was our first time. I recommend Saffron Pistachio and Sweet Coconut together, they were so delicious!

Rick’s brings back that old school nostalgia with a classic feel, extremely friendly service and ice cream that will knock your socks off. I am a fan of smooth and creamy textures, less sugary varieties, and clean, fresh, original taste. Rick’s has a number of flavored that rock my world — kulfi, pistachio almond, toasted almond, saffron pistachio, and lemon(oh, lemon!). Slightly less expensive than Tin Pot and Smitten, but just was delicious, it’s very clear why people love this place.

I’ll have to give Rick’s a pass. Creamy ice-cream is good. Rick’s is just plain cream. There just isn’t enough flavor in there. Of the 3 flavors we tried, all 3 failed to compete with the dominant plain cream flavor. The waffle cone was far too sweet. I would rate Goodberry’s & Haagen-Dazs above them. Rick’s could and should be so much more.

It is the best, no question. Price is also very high, but compare with other cheaper options, I rather pay more for such a treat. $ 3.785 for a single scoop on a small cone. A lot of selection too. For kids hanging out, family chit chat and wasting time in a hot summer day, you cannot find a better choice. Cheers!

I’ve been seeing reviews and photos of Rick’s Ice Cream for ages, now that I am back in the bay area I knew I had to try it ASAP! Since we were celebrating a family birthday it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pick some up. My mom raved about the industrial chocolate, so I had to get some of that. We also tried the Mint chip and cookies and cream. They had tons of flavors to chose from, and most of the flavors are available in ½ gallon sizes pre-packed. They don’t pre-pack the industrial chocolate(something about the swirls of chocolate, I guess most of the flavors are machine packed), they only hand pack that flavor… which unfortunately for me was twice as much. The hand packed ice creams are $ 8 a lb, a ½ gallon container is about 2lbs worth of ice cream so it wasn’t cheap! But if you are a chocolate lover like me, you will love the industrial chocolate. It’s very rich and delicious. Definitely a favorite in this house full of chocolate addicts!

A bit expensive for a small scoop. Birthday cake — good Cookie dough — yum Blue moon — tastes like Fruit Loops

This place is a hidden gem for anyone’s inner fat kid! We came here on a weeknight and found that it was supisingly busy… it’s always a good sign when locals are there. We had the molasses coffee, mint cookie, and pumpkin flavors — they even made a fresh shake for us! We are already planning on coming back here with friends, they offer approximately 30 flavors and we want to try out most of them–

Solid 2.5÷3 stars Overrated – the texture tasted like something you could find in the grocery store. Looking at the flavors, the ice cream cartons look like they have been in there for a while. In other words, not very fresh. I ordered a SMALL aka mini, and the cashier was super friendly and generous. You can pick up to two flavors. The two flavors below were equally good. Honey lavender Salted caramel

Really excellent home made ice cream. Second best in the state.(My local is slightly better) nice variety and the staff was what to help. It’s located(as most thing in California) in a strip mall. While not near the campus of Stanford, a nice bike ride away– so you can burn off some calories! I got a small chocolate chip ice cream cup($ 3.25). It was very fresh and creamy tasting! Can’t wait to try another flavor!

Small shop with a huge selection of flavors! There are benches in front of the store to enjoy your ice cream, or a few tables across the parking lot – perfect on a warm spring day. The employee was kind enough to let me sample a bunch of things. I particularly liked the rose tea, as I’m more inclined to choosing flavors I can’t easily buy at a grocery store. Would definitely come back when I’m in the area.

The sheer number of flavors at this mom and pop ice cream shop is impressive! Anuja K. and I checked it out during one of our exploratory South bay missions and we loved the mint cookie! The ice cream is creamy, but not too overwhelming — and has that grainy consistency that is typical of nitrogen cooked ice cream. Had the chance to try mexican chocolate and lavender honey — both were bomb! We are definitely coming back!

My coworker told me this is her favorite place for salted caramel ice cream so I had to come by here after dinner with friends to check it out myself. Plenty of parking, its in a plaza shared with other shops. There were so many flavors, it was hard to choose. Ended up trying the mexican chocolate with the salted caramel. I really liked the flavor combo of those two together. My husband had the chocolate custard and the banana flavors and he seemed to enjoy his a lot also. The workers seemed really nice and patient when I wanted to taste test so many flavors because I was being indecisive. haha. They also have a freezer section filled with ice cream cupcakes, ice cream cakes, and different flavors/sizes of ice cream pre-packed to go. Would definitely come back again. Sooo delicious.

Bottom line at the top: really good ice cream! Now that smitten is in the South Bay that is my favorite ice cream place but this is still good too. – Rick’s is really smooth, creamy, and not icy at all. If you prefer soft serve ice cream you definitely need to try Rick’s. I had the mint, chocolate, vanilla ice creams were all good. The passion fruit sorbet(vegan) was the best which seems weird for an ice cream shop but I would definitely recommend trying the sorbets.

I love ice cream and shopping at small businesses. I believe Rick’s is owned or at least operated by a nice Indian family. The line was kind of hard to figure out but it moved quickly. All ice cream is made fresh daily. Birthday cake flavor was awesome! But who can say no to anything that tastes like cake batter. It is Palo Alto and fresh ice cream which equates to why it was pretty pricey. But definitely a place to try out at least once. Parking was packed but there are always a few spots here and there.
