The free soup has always been so tasty. It is very decent Chinese soup.

My most favorite sweet and sour pork place is sadly closed. RIP R&B.

Their salt and pepper crab is a killer, among other things. Great and attentive service too! I’ll definitely come back for other things on their menu.

I have been to this place twice because i wanted to eat stir fried chinese noodle plates such as beef chow fun. The location is close to where i work, so it’s good for dinner! The service is great, but the food i have experienced way better. The prices are around the same as anywhere else.

Nice couple runs the place. However, totally tasteless, totally gross. Who cares about low price if it’s not even edible. They said they are closing in a few months, landlord has given notice of bldg. for sale. My guess is they are skimping on everything right now counting pennies. Food just wasn’t fresh. Over heated, seemed like almost reheated food with pepper as a cover-up. Ugh. No bueno, avoid, too bad cause they were nice but food sucked. two stars as a courtesy to a small business owner going out of business.

for the same items you could get at Cooking Papa or even Hong Kong Restaurant down the street, the cuisine level here is lower. combination pan fried noodles, peking spare ribs, and dry sautéed string beans not up to expectations on quality of meats with the noodles, string beans bland with just some red pepper, and dredged ribs. maybe some of the other items are better.

I love this place. It may seem nothing special on the outside(believe me… it took a year for me to finally try it), but the owners are very sweet and attentive. The food is also great and comes at a fraction of the cost of other Chinese places in Palo Alto(I could get the same food for half the cost of the food at Taipan in downtown PA). Some must-tries are the corn/crab soup and Peking duck. The portion sizes are very generous and, because the place isn’t usually too crowded, the service is very fast. Give it a chance!

This place has delicious food! So underrated because of the lack of parking or store front but the food is so good, delivery or dine in is fast, the employees are kind, and the atmosphere is calm. Come by and have some chow! Cheap and yummy and close to campus. And delivery is free if you order 25 dollars or more!(which is totally easy to reach) Last thing, portions are a good size for the price! A college student’s dream :)

This place is gross. The food is always dripping with grease. Seriously, even Panda is better.

They don’t really have a parking lot here for customers, just a tiny one in back that can fit a few cars. We parkeed on the street. When we walked into the restaurant, it was practically empty and this was for a lunch on Saturday at about 12. We ordered 3 lunch plates. Chicken with String Beans Chicken with Sweet Sauce Sweet & Sour Pork They were okay, nothing too special. There was only 1 waitress working the whole restaurant which was fine really because we were the only ones there for quite some time…

Yummy! Honestly not the greatest Chinese restaurant I’ve been to, but I appreciate its proximity to Stanford and that their food tastes authentic for affordable prices! I especially love Peking duck. Like wow, their Peking duck is. So. Good. Always good ratios of skin to fat to meat, the skin is crunchy and perfectly seasoned, the sauce and accompanying bao also delicious. Everything else, from salted fish fried rice to fish maw soup to beef chow fun, has been yummy, and I also appreciated that their walnut prawns were really big~ They’re also really fantastic with catering. My work orders them frequently for events, and they’re always really friendly and accommodating with our requests. The ambience isn’t great and it looks sketchy from the outside, but the service is always so friendly and the food so good I feel like everyone else is missing out if they’re judging by the storefront!

I usually hate ordering chicken at a Chinese restaurant because it usually comes in huge fatty chunks with either too much fried batter or is too soggy but this place has the BEST general’s chicken ever. I live in San Francisco and San Jose and would sometimes drive all the way here just to eat their general’s chicken. Their food is decently priced and they have friendly service as well. What more can you ask for?

4 stars for the food, an extra star for the price of the lunch special and the service. This place has SOLID Chinese food in good portions with a very nice service. I am giving them an extra star because not only are they cheap and close to campus, but because they also seem to be empty every time I come to this place and I’m wondering if people don’t know about it. Ambiance: This is lacking. They try and have fabric tablecloths but something about this place is still very dingy. Service: The lady I get has always been very nice. I have come here multiple times for the lunch special and they also throw in an extra soup even though it’s not mentioned in the menu. Food: Their food ranges from authentic to very American. The lunch specials have some nice offerings such as fish with eggplant or an oxtail dish but it is served with a fried egg roll with sweet and sour sauce. You can also get sweet and sour pork if you so wish though I always encourage people to be more adventurous. The portions are decently sized and including tip I think I pay the same as what I would have for Panda Express for MUCHMUCHMUCH better quality food. Overall, I love this place. It’s my go-to for a quick lunch and I only wish more people knew about it and the lady could use that business to further improve the restaurant.

One of the few Chinese restaurants in Palo Alto. Ordered Combo chow mein: standard thick yellow thick noodle with mixed shrimp, pork, squid. Beansprouts + green onions. Too oily. Mixed seafood soup: Bamboo pith, scallops, shrimp in mild chicken broth. Would order again. Fish fillet rice porridge: too watery. More like a soup than porridge. $ 50.00÷3 dishes during lunch. Extensive menu; most dishes seafood focused. They have frog which nobody carries.

Food: 4⁄5 Delivery Service: 2⁄5 I just had delivery from Jing Jing the week before, so most of my statements are in direct comparison to them. The price and food portion is really great. Whole Peking Duck — priced much better than anything else nearby, and there is no need to order 24 hours in advance. It came with 12 steamed buns. This was a whole lotta duck, and very good meat, not just a giant glob of fat like Jing Jing’s duck. Ying Yang Fried Rice(sweet & sour chicken and gravy shrimp) — a generous portion of both rice and topping. This was delicious. Both meat toppings were tasty, and the actual fried rice wasn’t greasy, over soy sauced/salted or burned. I know that the name and menu suggests this place specializes in seafood, so I feel bad for not actually trying what they are best at, but what I did try was already really good. I need to try some of their seafood next time(or the pork intestines, that sounds interesting) Delivery service was the problem. Talking to them on the phone was difficult because they had trouble understanding me. They delivered within 50 minutes, like they estimated, so that was good, but the delivery guy went to the wrong place. After talking on the phone and figuring out where he was so I could meet him, he didn’t have a pen so I could sign the receipt since I paid with a card. That was a huge problem and was very disruptive. I had to find someone nearby who had a pen just so I could get my food. Despite the problems in delivery, I would still choose R&B again next time instead of Jing Jing because the food and pricing are just so much better.

R&B is one of the better Cantonese/HK-style Chinese food in the South Bay, compared with Hong Kong Restaurant in Mountain View and Kirin Restaurant on Castro. R&B excels when the dining room is quiet. Some of the notable dishes include pan-fried noodles w/beef and Chinese broccoli and Singapore-style vermicelli. With the recent inflation, prices have gone up to ~$ 9 per dish from the previous ~$ 8. Portions are huge, thus a dish can easily be two meals. Service is friendly and R&B accepts credit cards. Dinner is okay… really depends on the chef that particular day…

I’ve found my go-to nearby Chinese restaurant. A favorite of Chowhounders, R&B is an unassuming restaurant with minimal décor located on the El Camino Real strip. What R&B does specialize in is solid, affordable Cantonese fare and if you’re looking for an uncrowded place to get your seafood and vegetable fix, it’s a great choice. Prices are friendly and the menu has a broad array of choices. We ordered randomly and were quite happy with all our choices: Fish maw and crab meat soup — a generous portion and perfect comfort soup on a cold night. The fish maw pieces were a bit small but tasty and the soup hit the spot. Giant Clams Stir-Fried in XO sauce — this dish was a winner. I wasn’t sure what to expect but the clam meat came pre-shelled out and is stir fried with a fantastic assortment of fresh vegetables, including snow peas and celery. Add in XO sauce and you have a winner. Fish Filet and Bean Curd Claypot — like the dish above, the clay pot exhibited great wok heat. The fish filet pieces are nicely flash fried and added with the great bean curd. The whole Claypot is piping hot. Great with rice. Sautéed pea sprouts — a staple and well done here. Quickly wok fried and served with garlic. Good for you too. R&B is a great neighborhood find. While I’m a fan of the upscale and excellent Taipan, sometimes a lower key place with affordable, delicious cuisine is nice too. If top choices Saigon in Sunnyvale is too far and you don’t feel like making the drive to Cooking Papa, R&B is my choice for the area. Skip the overcrowded Chef Chu’s, the nearby Hunan Homes or Hunan Garden, or even Peking Duck. R&B, we’ll be back. R&B accepts credit cards, but not American Express.

Came here for lunch on a Saturday after reading Unilocal reviews. We only ordered two dishes and was surprised that the lady taking our order gave us a complimentary pork short rib soup. Pork short rib soup — cannot complain there were only two pieces of short rib as this dish was free! The soup was simple with good flavor. It was just the way my mom’s pork short rib soup tastes like and made me feel home sick! Yuan Yang fried rice — i.e. chicken and prawn fried rice. We were pleasantly surprised when we saw the dish. See the phone I took. The plate was presented with two colors and proteins on each side of the dish. The chicken/onion on one half of the dish had a tomato based sauce. The other half was topped with prawn with some sort of green melons with a light sauce. The rice was only lightly fried with eggs and not oily at all. Sauted spinach with preserved duck eggs — I missed the«Thousand Year Egg» so when I saw this dish with the eggs I immediately ordered it. Huge portion and the spinach was very fresh and the whole dish was not greasy at all. We didn’t order the«favorites» based on other Unilocalers’ reviews but I was pleasantly surprised at how light but flavorful every dish was and the portions were generous. The lady who served us the complimentary soup was so nice, she came back when we finished the soup and asked us if we wanted more. We happily declined as we had too much food to eat! We packed half of the two dishes home for a 2nd meal. Again Unilocal did not disappoint and another great find!
