Let me be up front: this place is a dive. But I like it. Every Tuesday evening when the hour hand at work hits beer o’clock, a band of us, anywhere from 2 to 15, heads to the Duck and Dawg, a relatively new establishment in Palmdale. And every Tuesday, we arrive around 5pm to find the place virtually deserted. A dollar in the internet jukebox gets you three songs, the first of which for us is always«Welcome to the Jungle.» You know, just to make sure all two other people in the bar know that we’re there. As regulars, the waitresses know us and our service is fast and friendly. All entrees are so-so at best, with the exception of the bacon avocado burger, which is large, juicy, and fabulous. The wings are pretty good too. Stay away from their«Irish» cuisine, I love a good shepard’s pie and for sure that wasn’t one. I’m partial to UK/Ireland-imported beer, and they’ve got all the standards: Guinness, Harp, Bass, Newcastle, Boddingtons, and Smithwicks are all on tap among others. Sadly, there is no Strongbow on tap, but you’d have to find a real Irish pub for that. Don’t head here on a date or a family outing, but if you’re looking for some good pints after work at an uncrowded place, with a game of darts or pool thrown in, well then I’d love to see you next Tuesday.
