Generous portions of the blandest Chinese food ever, served efficiently by nice people. Almost no vegetables are used. How this place is still in business is a mystery. Very expensive for what it is. Panda Express is better.

The place is very simple and modest. Always busy for lunch, with an easy menu. The food is good with a very friendly staff.

We have passed by this place more times than I can count. Finally, after a cold day outside we decided to check it out. It’s not fancy. They serve a big portion of food for a reasonable price. The food was delicious but a little bland(no worries, though, ‘cuz I carry my own Sriracha!) Having said the above, we got here at 3pm, while the staff were having lunch. They saw us and said hello but didn’t get up from their table to offer us drinks or take our order. After 10 min, I got up and asked to be waited on. The two waiters seemed very young and inexperienced so I kept my expectations low. Summary, good food, big portions, inexpensive, hungry waiters.

I have had bad Chinese food but nothing like this. Every bite had this horrible after taste of old/used oil. I can still taste it 2 hrs later. Everything I ordered had potential because the portions were large with ample vegetables and protein. However, nothing had any flavor except for the before mentioned off tasting oil/grease. This is what I ordered: Vegetable fried rice– tasteless, hardly any vegetables Mongolian beef– lots of tasty beef and veg, but nasty after taste Chicken chow mein– again lots of meat and veg, nasty after taste Fried dumpling– frozen Japanese goyza, like from Costco. The atmosphere was beyond depressing. Brightest lights ever seen. Cheap décor out of early 80’s. $ 38 for a lot of gross Chinese food, 70 percent that went into the garbage.

Old Revboxx has eaten at China King now about three dozen times or more. It is a keeper. There is something about this place that keeps you coming back. The food is down home Chinese mama delicious. It is just a small family run operation. Very plain on ambiance, but big on taste. You can tell that the owner and his family care about the food experience. The service is amazing. They provide consistently good fare here, plus none of my dining guests have ever experienced a bad meal. It is worth trying.

I recently moved and I miss this place! One of the best chinese food restaurants I have been to. Everything is fresh. I see everyone posting about how they think this is «blah» but you are crazy. If you have ever been to actual China, you’d know that this is how the food is supposed to taste. It’s delicious and the owners are awesome too!

We expected run-of-the-mill Chinese food — we ordered take-out with low expectations. What we got was, remarkably, the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. Let’s talk about that. I’ve been having generally pedestrian Chinese food for 30 years now, across the country; I’ve even eaten Chinese food in Sicily, and all of that was not as bad as this. So, in a sense, it extremely exciting to find my personal worst, particularly in Palm Springs, where I’d expect a little better. What wasn’t as exciting was actually eating the clumpy rice, the overcooked lo mein, the low grade Mongolian beef, or the tasteless orange chicken that mystified our group.

By far the best Chinese food in the desert ! Try the fried garlic shrimp. And hot and sour soup. They’re so nice and have fast service

If bland is your thing, China King will make you sing! «Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah…» Not to be mean, but the dishes all tasted the same. Not much flavor, no spice and some of it was mushy. Our crew of seven ate the food and didn’t complain(much), but nobody wanted to keep the leftovers :( Who doesn’t want greasy Chinese food leftovers?! I picked up the food to go, so no comment on in-restaurant service. However, when I walked in to pick up the food, I thought I was on the set of a David Lynch movie(think Blue Velvet.) Strange place… didn’t make the grade. Sorry China King, 2.44 stars — close, but no chopsticks.

Back again to China King!!! Four of us had the Mandarin Dinner for 2, at $ 13.95 each. Included wonTon soup, appetizers, and we shared Mongolian Beef, King Po Chicken, Beef and Broccoli and Chicken Lo Mein. Served hot and tasted very good. This is a great hole-in-the-wall joint. Friendly service, big servings, and low prices.

Yuck. Most bland food I ever ate. If we hadn’t taken the food to go I would have sent it back and left. I had the Kung Pao and could not find a single pepper flake or any flavoring. Find somewhere else. Life is to short for lousy food.

This is a great little«hole in the wall» classic«American Chinese Restaurant«. A throw back from another time. The kind of Chinese restaurant we all visited 30 or 40 years ago, before there were other options. You either did«Italian» or «Chinese» or a diner. Place was spotlessly clean, a bit Spartan, but with old fashion booths. We went there for take out. Looked like it was family run. Ordered about 7 items from menu. All were freshly made, tasted great(not oily or greasy). Didn’t wake up thirsty because of too much salt. We also were given way too much food for the price we paid. Service was friendly. Will go back!!! Don’t be fooled by the uninviting exterior. Prices were from the 70’s.

This is a little forgotten hole in the wall restaurant that survives. I’ve been wanting to try it for a long time but could never get friends to agree to go. So, I ordered take-out last night. The Mongolian Beef was very good. he rest of the food was good too. Prices are reasonable but the menu posted on Unilocal is not the current menu. Atmosphere in the restaurant is definitely Seinfeld café feeling, not that there’s anything wrong with that. I will definitely go again, and their lunch specials on the menu are very attractive.

This place is very basic and reminds me of hundreds of Chinese dives I have been to over the years. I could be sitting in almost any middle American town eating the same food in the same atmosphere. This is American Chinese comfort food extraordinaire. Lunch specials, too. The food is never disappointing but never extraordinary either. Paper Chinese Zodiac place-mats and plastic Chinese decorated serve-ware add to the ambiance. Lots of red and pink for good luck. Can get crowded for Lunch. one word: BASIC

When you’re in Palm Springs and conduct a Unilocal search for Chinese cuisine, you are met with two options: Wang’s or China King Restaurant. When I want good, bastardized Chinese I want big, hearty portions that are executed reasonably well. I’ve been to Wang’s on a prior trip. While Wang’s specializes in bastardized fare, the pricing and portions are abysmal. As such, we knew that going to China King was the best – and only – alternative. China King is in the heart of downtown PS, easily within walking distance of the major hotels, bars and nightlife. You really won’t be able to miss it; just keep your eyes peeled for the dingy appearing building that looks as if a time machine shuttled it right out of the 80’s and into the present. It’s endearing, really, and brought back scores of childhood memories. We decided to begin with their APPETIZERCOMBOSAMPLER., a starter consisting of an assortment of wantons, fried shrimp, BBQ pork slices, wrapped chicken, and egg rolls. This was probably the least favorite selection I experienced during my visit. The wantons were standard. The pork didn’t have much flavor. The batter on the fried shrimp was much too thick and spongy. Unfortunately, I will forgo this on future visits and likely stick to a soup option. For our entrée, we shared the following: MONGOLIANBEEF — The beef had deep, rich flavor and was extremely tender. Very pleased with this. KUNGPAOCHICKEN — Standard Kung Pao, something that I enjoy immensely. I was disappointed that they didn’t spice it up like we had asked, but, nevertheless, I had no problems gobbling it right up. PAN-FRIEDNOODLES — Served with chunks of chicken and perfectly cooked broccoli, this was one of my favorite items of the night. Great execution. I ate like a pig, unabashedly. We just about finished everything, so that speaks to the quality of the meal. Overall, with the exception of the appetizer, I was a very happy customer.
