Meh. Not good but not terrible. Their tortilla chips are terrible, disgusting taste to them. Our entrees were just«ok», needs more flavor! I like authentic Mexican and this place isn’t that. I prefer the mexican place up the street from this place. Ok if you are in a rush and need a quick meal in your stomach but wouldn’t actively seek this place out.

Good enchiladas, good music, good service! Nice atmosphere. Good variety of Mexican food. Yummy! And I go to Mexico every 4 – 8 weeks. It’s very good for this side of the Gulf.

My family and I left here feelin’ bummed. This location used to be Salsa’s and it was a great Mexican resturant with delicious food. We decided to try Tacos Flacos and were disappointed in the lack of flavor in the salsa, enchiladas and tacos. The margaritas were watered down. To top it all off it was expensive.

I lived in San Diego, so I know a bit about tradition Mexican food. * The food here is okay, but like almost all the Mexican restaurants in the greater Tampa area, it seems to be a lot more Americanized(meaning not real traditional). * As an example, for instance, Traditional(real) Enchiladas are filled and then Baked IN sauce(large quantities baked in pans). They are not just rolled and quickly microwaved or heated, after which sauce is just poured on top them. Some places add cheese on top and then reheat the plate again for a minute; but sadly both ways are fairly blaaa once you’ve had them done the proper way!!! I’ve had far to many enchiladas come cold in the middle, and many fairly dry. This would never happen if they were baked traditionally(aka properly) in sauce. * The same goes for mole. It can NOT be done properly in minutes. Traditional mole is fairly time consuming to make(for instance, mole poblano has an average of 20 ingredients); if done properly most places make it the day prior, and it has cooked for many hours. Because of this most places that make it properly actually ask you to try a sample of their sauce to make sure that you like it before they make you a plate so it doesn’t go to waste. * So far, sadly, I’ve not found a Mexican restaurant in the greater Tampa area that actually cooks traditional Mexican food. It’s all quick Americanized at best.

I was craving nachos and two-for-one margaritas, and this was the closest place we spotted. I saw three stars in the rating and thought it can’t be that bad. We started off with complimentary chips & salsa and went ahead to order the two-for-one margaritas. It was just ok — Nothing i cared to repeat so we didn’t order any more margaritas. Leroy C ordered the combination of beef taco and burrito while i ordered the half order of nachos without sour cream(chicken to be on the side… for Leroy C). The nachos were just ok(I’ve had better) but If you could see his face when i asked him how his order was– priceless! In summary, He said(in spanish but i translated it for you) ‘how can this ground beef taste blander than when you make it at home without salt. The sauce tastes like Ragu. And I don’t like the rice. But the chicken tastes better than the beef.’ He isn’t a picky person when it comes to food(he even eats my cooking !) so I was surprised when he even left most of his rice(and didn’t even want it to-go). I tasted some of the sauce and he was right, it was on the sweet side. We just agreed that there is just better mexican elsewhere. On the plus side, inside was spacious, clean, service was good and it was pretty inexpensive(grand total of ~$ 20 for two-for– one margaritas, half order nachos, combination dinner). I really wanted to like it more because the server was attentive but the food was Meh. If they could fix the blandness of their food and the margaritas, that would be great. But for now, we won’t be back any time soon.

Terrible service, bad food. Taco bell is better. Salsa tasted like bland tomatoes out of a can with no heat or flavor. Guacamole was even worse. Not authentic tasting. It tasted like it was rIght off the Sysco truck.

Taco Tuesday night dinner and the place was a mess. More than a half hour wait and we still didn’t get seated. Then came the bad news people couldn’t sit at the bar because it was too hot and worse of all complaining and leaving because the service was too slow. So sad because we were here once before on a Saturday night, granted the place was empty but the service was good and so was the food. Very disappointed!

The place had sticky floors and there were open tables and no one was cleaning tables to make room for people to be seated. Had to ask the bartender twice for four magaritas, waited for a while to get the drinks while waiting for a table. As we walked to the bar there were several tables open and they were still opened as we waited for 30 – 40 mins. The margaritas were only filled ¾ of the glass. They didn’t taste good either. Still waited to be seated and so far not so good.

I was hoping that the 3rd time was the charm eating here as my 2 previous visits were average or below but that was not the case. I tried steak tacos on corn tortillas with rice and beans and I was served 3 corn tortillas with 5 pounds of beans, onions, peppers, steak, and tomatoes laying on top of them, wasn’t sure how I was supposed to eat them, when I got the bill they were called fajita tacos and cost $ 4 each add the rice and beans and my bill was $ 19.55 and was definitely not worth it. I wouldn’t mind paying that much if the food was amazing but it was average at best.

This is the most underwhelming Mexican place ever. I knew what it was, but for some odd apparent reason my friend actually likes this place and wanted to eat here. You know when you walk in a restaurant and u can smell all the delicious aromas coming from the kitchen? Well, this place smells like frying oil right when u walk in the door. I tried to order the safest thing on the menu which were nachos. They were bland. How can nachos be bland?.. I have no idea, but they managed to pull it off. Completely flavorless, How can you mess up nachos? My friends molcajete looked like a grease pit with meat. So much oil. I can’t, I won’t again. Not worth the calories

Got a beef burrito to go. It was swimming in a grease/water mixture. The burrito wasn’t bad per se, Average, hence the 3 stars

So rude! The servers all barely speak english and are incredibly rude, slow, and unapologetic. I can sympathize with English being a second language, especially considering it’s a more authentic Mexican restaurant, however, that doesn’t allow for the disrespect and neglect that was accompanied with our meals. We have gone three times now, and each time getting a different server who messed up our order. My boyfriend and I always are sweet to our servers and very good tippers. Even so, we watched our server tonight be rude and speak barely anything to us, and turn around and give a family a smile and a memorable experience. It is unfortunate because their food is decent and the taco Tuesday deal is great, but, I can be certain we are NEVER going back because of the terrible service. MANAGERSPLEASETRAINYOURSTAFF!

We want to be patrons here, it’s super close to home. Stale chips, mediocre food, we used to go for Margaritas and a sampler platter for a few consecutive weeks hoping to be regulars. At that time it was called Salsas. It recently reopened under this new name. Same bored and irritated waiters… This bothers me. If you see the same customers multiple times but are zero % welcoming then you lost my business permanently. Last try this past week. Can’t rename a place, make no changes and expect happy customers.

I was hungry, and my mouth wanted a taste sensation that it’d not had in a while. The husbeast was running late home from work, so I dialed in the«NearBy» application and lo & behold, Unilocal did not fail me! We ended up at Tacos Flacos & Cantina, which is located about 5 miles from our home, tucked away in a strip mall that also has an LA Fitness. When we pulled in, most of the parking lot was being re-surfaced, so parking was at a premium. Not a problem though, we found a close by location and walked right in. It wasn’t a busy night, and that was great! We were seated immediately and handed menus by one of the hosts. The menu’s still read SALSA’S, which I found amusing. There were a lot of choices, but we finally narrowed it down. Ian ordered some HUGE monstrosity of a burrito and I ordered pork tacos. While we waited, they brought us fresh chips and salsa, which were still warm and very, very tasty. When the food was delivered, neither of us could believe the size of the burrito. It was GINORMIOUS! Seriously this thing was the size of a serving platter. My tacos came with a serving of refried beans, sour cream, salsa & green sauce. I asked the hubby what he thought… he said that his burrito was damned good. That he’d come to expect that most Mexican food was pretty flavourless, that he always needed hot sauce, but he wasn’t using any because this food was REALLY good. My tacos were filled with pork, lots of burnt ends, lots of juicy, fatty bits, they were –stuffed– with meat. There was no cheese, so I did need to ask for some, and the staff was MORE than generous, bringing out a large cup full. Other than that, once they were assembled, they were AMAZING! The refried beans were DELICIOUS! It tasted like there was a hint of Cinnamon! All I can tell you, is that we both left with take aways and it made for a delicious lunch today!

There is just something special about some Mexican restaurants. You get a feeling they want to make your visit really nice. I did not get that feeling here. The sign out front says Tacos Flacos, but the menus say Salsa’s and I did not like that place. Service was fine. Don’t like tall walls that separate each booth. It just lacks«wow factor. Not coming back.
