What an amazing restaurant. I’ve been coming here for years with the Lions club and have never had a bad experience. The food is the cream of the crop and the service is the friendliest and most professional around. It’s great for hosting large events or just coming for dinner for two. One of my favorite aspects of this restaurant is their lobster special, where you get twin lobsters for $ 19.95(and they’re not small either!) or one lobster with a 5oz steak. It has loads of parking and complimentary bread, chips, AND rice. I would recommend this restaurant any day and am of course coming again soon.

Been going here for great Spanish food since as long as I can remember. The dishes are absolutely delicious, from the appetizers… like the garlic shrimp and chorizo… to the numerous entrees and specials… like the amazing Paella and steaks. Aside from the great food… and awesome sangria… the staff are always very friendly and attentive. For a restaurant that always seems busy, the ambience is surprisingly quiet and relaxing, too. Had Christmas dinner there two years in a row and it was a great holiday experience with the family for a delicious and relaxing meal. No matter how busy the place is, you never feel rushed either! A great old style restaurant that remembers how to give their customers the full dining experience!

Service: For a Saturday night they were incredibly understaffed. Our waiter tried to stay on top of his tables but he must have had 8 tables by himself and some of them had more than 6 guest. Our drinks stayed empty for far to long with out anyone asking if we would like to order something else. We had to ask for drinks twice and by ask I mean chase the waiter down. Food: We ordered mostly tapas and everything was just okay. Considering the price of the items I feel like they could have had a little more flavor. Everything was kind of bland and lacked either, salt butter or seasoning, the presentation was okay. We ordered lobster tails that did not taste fresh but frozen. The drawn butter tasted like they added oil to it because it was seriously lacking in the butter flavor department, it tasted like nothing. The best part of the main course sadly where the house made potato chips.

Hidden treasure!!! Best Lobster special in the area. No place in Bergen County is this packed on a Tuesday night! For $ 20 you get two lobster tails or a lobster and a 6oz steak paired with it. The appetizers are reasonably priced but taste super fresh and the excellent portions. The best part was, being it was so packed we sat at the bar and had Eric as our bartender, he was the best!!! Took amazing care of us from start to finish. Can’t wait to come back.

Funny story… I unintentionally came here two nights in a row! I came here in a group of four on Sunday evening for regular dinner service. The food was decent; I was not blown away. My boyfriend ordered the bean and sausage soup and it was SUPER salty and lukewarm. That night I left wanting to give a 2 star rating… However, the next evening it was my boyfriend’s Christmas party at the same location. I have to admit it was a much better experience in the private party setting! I got to sample lots of the other foods which were very good! The steak was excellent and they had a nice salad spread. The staff was very attentive and friendly and kept our table in the loop of when dinner and dessert was going to be served ;-) Because of last night, I upgraded my review to a 3 star.

The paella is amazing! Their skirt steak is great and salmon is wonderful! Their sangria will absolutely sneak up on you. I’d come here another 100 times!

Went there last night for our anniversary/engagement dinner celebration. Everyone from the hostess to the bus staff to the waiter was wonderful. Although it was a busy nice they were attentive and professional with great personalities. Best service I have had hands down in a long time. We split the grilled octopus appetizer with mashed potatoes. It was season perfectly. They make their own homemade salad dressing similar to a Catalina which I enjoyed. You can actually buy a small batch to go since it is so popular. For my entrée I got the seafood paella. Scallops were the best part! Safe room for the flan. So much flavor and a great way to end the evening. The food was amazing but I really feel the staff made the evening even better.

The steak and lobster are excellent and we got a massive steak for about $ 30, a great price. However, the paella and other dishes were sub par. The paella didn’t taste like the seafood flavor had been infused or cooked together, rather, it tasted like the seafood had been thrown on top of rice. The patatas bravas were confusing, not tasty and very very oily. I suspect that the frying oil was not hot enough. Overall, a pricy restaurant with not so great food and meh service. If you come, come only for the lobster or steak.

I thought I would be more satisfied after reading reviews about this restaurant but I personally thought that the Paella Valenciana that I ordered was a bit on the salty side. My order came with a choice of salad and soup and I chose the salad. Much to my surprise, it was nothing but mixed greens and a side of thousand island dressing… I would have chose the soup had I known, I’m sure it would have been better than the boring«salad». Nothing really stood out to be about this restaurant except for my waiter who was super attentive and polite to my table. I can’t judge a restaurant based on one mediocre experience so I’ll definitely give it another chance in the future.

If I could write a one word review for Meson Madrid, it would be: «Meh». Took my wife and in-laws here for Father’s Day on account of our favorite Spanish restaurant in the area recently closing permanently. Right off the bat, the restaurant itself looked very dated which made me a bit skeptical. Needless to say, my skepticism was warranted. The food and even the silverware were very dated as well. We all ordered appetizers and the portions for all of them were almost clownishly large. Had the clams on a half shell and while the appetizer itself was good, it came in this absurdly long horizontal metal tray that almost resembled a trough. For the main, I ordered the steak and stuffed lobster combo and both were very disappointing. The steak was very fatty and both the steak and stuffed lobster were over seasoned. My wife and in-laws also echoed the same sentiment. Nothing they ordered was particularly worth bragging about and as pricey as this place is, that’s very disappointing. Meson Madrid is a restaurant that seems to be stuck in the 80’s. Mind you, that’s not always a bad thing as I personally enjoy blasts from the past and vintage looking places very much, but when the food coming out of the kitchen follows suit, that IS a bad thing. I’m not necessarily saying this restaurant is bad, but it was nothing special either and both the menu and decorum could use a major makeover. In other words, MEH.

Came by for Mothers Day with la familia and although we enjoyed our visit I don’t think I am the biggest fan of this restaurant. Let’s starts with the hostess with NOT the mostest! Gurl, take a chill pill because you were rude. We came in no reservation with the intention that we would wait, no problemo on our end, but she was about to have a meltdown. Honestly, I was so applauded by her attitude that she may be the very reason I may never come back. She started huffing and puffing because we didn’t have reservations and saying they had many tables coming in. Umm, girl, we get it, we are OKAY with waiting, but what was not okay was the way you treat customers. Secondly, we went to sit at the bar to grab a drink as we waited for our table and the bartender must have walked by us 5 times and NOTONCE did he acknowledge us. WTF, we are here to spend money and you aren’t even going to look to see if we wanted a drink! Get it together. Someone came soon after to tell us our table was ready; which great our wait was actually less than we were told. We sat at a table in the corner by the window which we were happy about because we wanted to be away from noise. They had their Mother Days menu which seemed to have been priced a decently higher price but I get it its Mothers Day. Our waiter seemed like Mr. No Personality, but by the end we had him crack a smile. We had order two appetizers, one of them came out the wrong order, but we weren’t upset about it the chorizo looked good and we were fine with that. The pitchers of sangria that we ordered were a bit on the weak side. We ordered two and I didn’t even have a buzz. Our food in general was pretty good, I ordered the skirt steak medium rare and it came out a little more cooked than I had wished. Stepdad order the chicken in garlic sauce which seemed pretty small. Mom and sis shared the Lobster paella and it looked and tasted great. Overall an okay experience. It was mama’s choice so as long as she was happy that’s all that matter. I don’t think I would ever choose to come here again. Some rude staff, not the best dining experience for the amount of money one is paying. I would rather spend that money somewhere else.

A lot of people seem to come here for the steak and lobster combo deal on Monday and Tuesday’s but it’s nothing too special. What I really enjoyed was the paella(the restaurants original seafood one? Sorry forgot the name. Valencia I think). It came in a pretty big pot loaded with seafood and juicy chicken. My boyfriend got the skirt steak with jumbo shrimp – again, it was nothing special but I definitely recommend the paella!

Please pack your knives and go. Been coming here over the last 12 years with less and less frequency because of a steady decline in the quality of the food. Last week hit a new low and will be my last visit. The good: the rice and the Galician soup The bad: everything else… Filet of sole in green sauce — Fish wasn’t fresh. Even the sauce couldn’t hide it. Forced down three bites before I had to stop or risk tableside regurgitation. Shrimp plancha — shrimp came out undercooked. No excuse to undercook shrimp. You can tell by the color. Perhaps not enough wattage in the kitchen, either from the lights, or the cooks, or both. Potatoes — Asked for them to be well done. Not only were they not well done, they were slathered in oil. Disgusting. Even though our plates went back to the kitchen loaded with uneaten food, the waiter never asked why, or even if we liked the food. Maybe he sees this a lot. It’s time for a new owner who cares about what s/he serves customers, cleans house in the kitchen, and updates the 1982 décor(year of my first visit).

I came here late at night and ordered the 3-lb steak and their paella valenciana. The steak was good. Can’t complain there. $ 35 The paella was disappointing. The seafood sat on top of the rice and wasn’t melded into the rice. It lacked flavor and tasted like they just threw some boiled seafood on top of already cooked yellow rice. And the worst part about it was that the whole thing tasted luke warm at best. In fact, I would say that the rice was on the cold side and most likely not up to health department codes for temperature of hot foods. I remembered the paella being much bigger and much better tasting than the one we got this time. $ 20 We also ordered their large pitcher of sangria which was pretty good. $ 25 Prices above are approximate. I would go back again for the steak but I probably won’t be ordering their paella again.

Came here last Friday after reading Jae L’s review, since Paella and Skirt Steaks are 2 of my favorite food in the world, there is no reason that I should pass this restaurant. I was not disappointed at these 2 dishes at all indeed, the portions are large, and they are also very delicious. The amount of seafood they put in the paella are very generous, the seafood are also very fresh, too. We also ordered grilled octopus with mesh potatoes as appetizer, the octopus is tender and delicious, but I don’t really think the mesh potatoes match the octopus that well. Also, the dish served in lukewarm temperature that I don’t really like. I will not recommend this dish . I really think the dining area needs some major updates, it looks dated, the ceiling is really low, and the central air is very loud. Every time while AC started to run, our conversation would just stop because it was really loud.

Honestly, I couldn’t find anything wrong with this place. Right from the start, it was good, starting with the parking. Huge open lot, not too crowded for a Friday night, no silly valet parking. The décor seems a little outdated but who’s there to stare at the décor, let’s eat! Sat down and knew exactly what I wanted. Paella valenciana FTW. For 21 bucks, it’s a hell of a deal. Comes with a choice of soup or salad. Had some house wine on the side for 6 dollars a glass, not too shabby. The paella was amazing. It came out in a giant hot pot and had all the essentials you would find in a paella. The rice was cooked perfectly and blended well with all the seafood flavors. M’lady ordered the skirt steak and it was amazing. Probably the most tender skirt steak I’ve had in this area. Also came with soup or salad and also a side of rice and some veggies. Then for dessert, had a slice of cheesecake to share and it really hit the spot. Couldn’t even finish it, we were so full, got it to go haha The best part was, they had a few birthdays at the restaurant and a waiter sings the happy birthday song in a full on opera style voice. NOJOKE. Say it’s your bday next time and hope that waiter’s there. Their service overall was fantastic. Everything came out way faster than expected, waiters were courteous and helpful. All in all, a great place for date night or just casual dining! Oh, one last thing: they still use carbon copy receipts, which I thought was awesome, ’cause I didn’t have to write down what I tipped twice! :P
