I’m pretty bummed with the haircut I got a few days ago. I had long hair, about down to my shoulder blades, and I asked for four inches to be taken off, as it was full of split ends. After a short discussion with the stylist, she said she would start there and then we could re-evaluate if a shorter cut would be better. There was no re-evaluating — she went straight for about 6 – 8 inches off the main length and then cut in layers up to my ears without any discussion. My style should have been easy — a basic, fairly straight medium-length cut — still below my shoulders. My hair does not lay well with these layers, especially with the humidity of the summer. Any natural curl that I have no longer comes out and it is just flipping out all over. I am full of regret and I don’t even know how or when I could have stopped her. I don’t even know the stylists name so I can avoid her in the future. This will be a long wait to get back to my longer locks.

very disappointing, my haircut is awful, i ask to cut just the ends for a healthier look but i got millions of ends and my hair is about half of the length, my hair never looks so bad and i like them better before this horrible haircut… i’ll never come back. I was going there based on good reviews about Alka and got an appointment especially with her, i wish i never go there…

Alka is wonderful at threading eyebrows. I have been going to her for a long time now and recommend threading to anyone!

On a Sunday as I was out doing errands, I walked in. No one else was waiting so I was taken right away. Strangely, when I was seated in the chair, the hairstylist quoted me the price for the haircut.(I’ve never had that happen before and it set me ill at ease.) She said that the price included a shampoo and blow dry. I told her that I didn’t need one and she said the price would be the same. The haircut was fair at best. It was not had enough to have it repaired elsewhere, but I was disappointed in the result. Frankly, I’m not sure why she felt the need to let me know the price before she cut my hair. I know there are less expensive places around, but for the difference of a few dollars I was not going to go elsewhere when this was convenient. Although, I probably should have simply said forget it and gone down the street.

I just moved into the Palatine area and have been searching for my perfect hair spot. I first tried sport clips thumbs down!!! My stylist was Marilyn she was fast, funny, and gave a straight razor cut. These girls know what they are doing, and they offer color at a cheap price. Two thumbs up !!

The master stylist, Alka, cut my hair a week ago. With some encouragement from her and another stylist, I cut it short and colored it back to my natural color. I love it! Also, Alka is the only one at the salon who does threading and is Ah-Maze-ing at it. I have totally found my new stylist.

I was a first time walk-in at this place recently and it was the worst haircut I have ever had. Since I don’t have prior experience with this stylist, a $ 15 haircut is not worth slandering her professional reputation, so she will remain nameless. Staff was friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the stylist I had was very amiable. She had me show her the cut I wanted out of a hair magazine and took the time to understand what I wanted… at least, I thought we were on the same game page. I was too cheap to pay for a blow dry and I wish the stylist would have insisted on drying my hair. If she had dried it, we could have both seen that the layers looked hacked up and mushroomy on one side of my head, that she had completely neglected the other side of my head, and a huge chunk was left too long. It was so unacceptable, I had to make an appointment with my regular salon the next day and admit to cheating on them. Meanwhile, my husband had a great cut here at the same time with the master stylist.

I have to agree. I’ve been going to this location since they opened and I’ve always had a good experience. My best friend and I always use Alka as our stylist whenever we need a great haircut for an important event. The other stylists are good as well if you can’t get an appointment or don’t need as much attention to detail. Try to go earlier on the weekdays otherwise the wait can get pretty long.

I’m surprised to see how busy this Hair Cuttery place is and yet no one’s written a review about it. The stylists that work here are really sweet and really cute. Alka is my fav by far! She’s awesome and knows what she’s doing. She’s a professional stylist so a men’s signature cut by one of them is $ 15. I usually go to Alka and she’s been great. A haircut with her will take some time(20 – 30 minutes) as she takes her time and spends alot of attention to detail — a characteristic you don’t see in many stylists. I like to bring in a photo of a celebrity hair cut, and she comes pretty close to achieving that style. She gives honest advice on whether a particular hairstyle suits you based on your face shape and the texture of your hair. So I highly recommend Alka — but just a fair warning she is really busy so you have to make an appointment in advance! I never really had a cut with the other stylists so I can’t speak for them. But I do know they are all super-friendly, positive, and very courteous. I’m always met by a fantastic attitude. The atmosphere is lively and has a nice vibe to it, and they usually play relaxing music on their radio(it’s usually set to 101.9FM) so can’t complain there. The hair-styling products they sell aren’t cheap, but then again most salons sell products at a steep price so no surprise there. My only complaint is that they are usually busy and they only have three chairs to sit at! I don’t know if this is a common theme at all Hair Cuttery salons, but seriously many times I come in only to have to stand awkwardly at the side or go with the option of waiting outside. The only other beef I have is that occassionally I’ll schedule an appointment in advance only to come in and having to wait another 15 – 20 minutes. I don’t know if either the stylist takes in too many walk-ins or if several of her appointments have a tendency to arrive late. Overall, I recommend giving this salon a shot. I recommend getting a haircut with a professional stylist(ask for Alka!).
