I should probably start this post by saying«I don’t drink alcohol.» But my partner is a craft beer nut. Not just a basic bro that likes IPAs. Normally I’ll come here on a special occasion with his untapped wish list and show it to the guy who will be pretty upfront with good suggestions. They don’t always have the rarest of the rare. Today is our anniversary and I really dropped the ball on hunting down something good. Luckily«the guy» pulled something pretty stellar for me and it really sold me on why I always stop there on the way home instead of the Binnys by my work. Just all around real nice people that work here!

Great selection but be prepared to pay way more than you should. They over price everything they sell by a significant amount.

Been going here since it was Dobby’s. Needed the update. Nice selection of craft beers & wine. Prices are in line with other liquor stores and good selection. Also like the beer tasting they have, usually 1st Saturday of every month.

I thoroughly enjoy wine. My BF, he’s a manly dude, and loves beer. This is equally a good thing, and bad thing. I’m a fan of surprises, and love being able to save a trying day by bringing home a nice brew for him. Sweet, right? Here’s the tricky part. I hate beer. Strong word, yes, but it’s grossed me out since I accidentally had a hot sip of it when I was 7. This means Meg has no freaking idea what is good, different, better or terrible by way of a brewski. Here’s why I loved my experience at Garfield’s: I stood staring, awkwardly, at a wall comprised of bottles in all shapes, sizes, labels and names. I may have began to break into that ‘overwhelmed’ sweat just before the cashier walked over. He made an impossible decision easy. I pointed at the brews I knew the BF liked and he literally made recommendations based on it. I purchased all of his recommendations, and the BF was not only surprised, but enjoyed them all!!! Every time I’m there, I’m helped– and the staff is super nice, knowledgable and helpful. On top of that– they have tastings– events that are free! This place was a better experience than Binny’s and right in my backyard.

Gone from an independent liquor store to Cardinal Liquor and now is Garfield’s Beverage Warehouse. Not sure what’s up with all the name changes. Not the friendliest workers which slightly deters me from going more often, but their beer selection is on point. They don’t list everything on BeerMenus but keep it up to date with some of the specials of the moment. They get in some unique and cool beers & have a nice big parking lot while not being overly patronized so I’ll def be back.

Great place! Now under the name Garfield’s. They have a wide selection of craft beers and they are always helpful if you are looking for a particular beer or want a recommendation on something new to try. Monthly beer and wine tastings are AWESOME.

Well, I use to shop here all the time. Until after today. They«released» the Goose Island Bourbon County Stout today. Waited over an hour in line thinking I would at least get a 4 pack. Well, all that waiting and they had no bombers and limited it to one 12oz Barely Wine or 212oz BCS per person. The price was $ 17 for two! What a joke! I honestly thought they were joking at first. This place obviously is in it for the money and is willing to rip people off as much as they can. I wont spend a dime here again. I find it hard to believe that Binnys can get pallets of this stuff and a local shop thats been around longer cannot.

I thought I was going to really miss Dobby’s when they were finally bought, and I DO miss Dobby and Jerry, BUT Cardinal Liquors has done a wonderful job here. While I enjoyed hunting the open boxes of wine on the floor at Dobby’s I have to admit it is much better laid out now, with a larger selection and some surprisingly good sale prices. Be sure and get the Cardinal Liquor«card» for the sale prices. The Craft beer area has also been greatly expanded. Something usually going on there in the way of an event or tasting, check the chalkboard, sign up for their newsletter, no local website posted yet.

Amazing selection! I usually go to Binny’s for liquor, but was in downtown Palatine and needed to pick something up. I had not been to Cardinal since they bought out the prior liquor store and my expectations were not high. They have really fixed the place up. The selection is outstanding and the prices good. They have an enormous wine selection and aisles and aisles of craft beers. I was actually looking for either Bullet or Templeton Rye, found both. Also, I found an ale I’ve been looking for — Dragon’s Milk with red chilis. Looks like this may be a decent competitor to Binny’s and I will be back.

The best beer shop in Palatine. Cardinal is just down the street from me and has a good variety of beer, wine, and spirits. I’m pretty grateful that there is a bottle shop in walking distance and I buy from them at least a few times a month. With certain Pipeworks releases I have been able to call or get in touch via social media to reserve a bottle. They also have tastings every weekend which is a nice way to shop for booze. However, whenever this store has a big release(Bourbon County, KBS, etc.) I am not able to get any even under their instruction. I’ve been told«we’ll announce this beer release on Facebook.» I see nothing and go in to ask them if they got it yet and they say, «Oh yeah. It’s all gone now.» I’m in no way salty at not getting said release, I just think it’s irritating that I was told an instruction, and then it wasn’t carried out like they said it would be. It just makes me want to look for those beers at another store. This has happened multiple times. I wish that wasn’t the case. I like supporting my community, and it would be great to rely on them as my go-to bottle shop.

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. Cardinal Liquors of Palatine is NOT a 4-star business. If anything, they push the limits of 5-stars to a place other liquor stores can only dream of. Booze-hounds & Liquor-pigs: Let me tell you some important ish right hurrr. EVERYSATURDAY from 1−5pm: FREEBEERTASTING But it’s not just like a few sips of beer. They had 25 different beers to taste, 2 tequilas, a handful of wines, cheese, nuts, popcorn, the whole shebang. ALLFORFREE. Of course, we ended up loving so many things that we spent a pretty penny before setting sail, but we got our money’s worth on tasting, I assure you. I found out about this tasting from 80-year-old woman I met at a winery a couple weeks ago. The home she’s at has a shuttle that takes to her to different bars, wineries, tastings and she swears the partying keeps her young. I believe because she didn’t look a day over 62. She said they also have wine tastings one day a week, and whiskey tastings another and that you can basically drink for free every night of the week. It’s also important to note that their regular non-tasting selection is supreme. Bye, bye, Binny’s. Cardinal is my new place of worship.

Def. my go to spot when in Palatine. Great beer and bourbon section. I think the new ownership has changed things around and made it better. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable!

While this place was famously known as Dobby’s, no need to fear because they spruced up the place, labeled the aisles & brought at least twice as much booze in. Still a vast, great selection of craft beer, what almost everyone loved this place for. Newsletters have been coming into my inbox advertising a bunch of free wine & beer tastings, almost every day or at least several a week. I wonder if they will continue to have tastings this often; that would be great. Prime location with a big lot. They kept the old marquee sign outside, but got rid of the cool, yet creepy metal knight that used to greet us all at the entrance. I’m glad they cleaned the place up a bit because it used to look somewhat like an outlet. Great selection of all types of liquor & wine, not just the beer. Coolers were not yet filled with beer, but they opened recently so I guess that’s why. Hope they’re up & running on my next visit. Sierra Nevada was promoting several brews that day, actually the reason we went, and was also giving away t-shirts with a Sierra Nevada purchase. The Ovila abbey ale was pretty darn good; almost bought a four pack of that. A lot of bombers & local craft beers. Didn’t pay attention to the prices, so I wonder how fair they are. Also wonder how late they’re open. Probably 9:00p like most places. Would be great if I lived closer, but there are a couple other small liquor stores closer to home than this that carry a good craft beer selection, so I’m not sure how often I’ll be here. I would go out of my way for a beer tasting, though, definitely.
