The reviews on here made me super nervous about this place. I was expecting to see tons of homeless people and dirty water. Nope, it appeared clear, no homeless people, lifeguard on duty, and tons of people playing in the pool. Parking lot of was pretty full on a Tuesday morning. There are a few picnic tables nearby, but they were claimed by families who got there early. Tons of little kids running around and there was a lifeguard on duty. The pool was lukewarm but we went during high tide and I suspect the water was quickly being diluted by the cold ocean water. There are stairs for people to easily climb in and out. I recommend water shoes. Overall, it was a fun experience! I’m glad we stopped by.

This was a cool experience once or twice, and my five year old absolutely loved it. I honestly felt, though, that the water was quite dirty, and now that I’ve read the reviews here of people being seen shaving and bathing in there, I think I will permanently pass. I have also come here once when the pond was closed due to its poor state of cleanliness, and that definitely turned me off too. The rocks are quite sharp, and both my son and I have cut our feet during the handful of times we’ve come here so I absolutely recommend water shoes when swimming. The last time my family and I were there, we did see a very cool golden eel swimming on the bottom, towards the stairway entrance of the ponds. If the water didn’t feel so gross to immerse myself in, I’d give this place five stars and come here all the time. The scenery is peaceful, beautiful and it is incredible to watch the waves crashing in and out of the pond. It is also(apart from the sharp rocks) very child friendly.

The park and everything is beautiful. The pool… the pool is a neat experience, but I would not go more than once. Yes, there were homeless bathing(vigorously). It is a warm water pond and it is very very cool to watch the tide waters come in. WEARWATERSHOES! There are rocks in the bottom and various heights and at various depths. It wasn’t too crowded when we went and it was enjoyable. We just simply preferred the tide pools and fresh water of the ocean. ;)

This is a small little park that is a great stop for a picnic or rest. The restrooms are fairly new and clean. We stopped here on our way to the Hot ponds. The view of the ocean is spectacular, just don’t get too close to the edge as it is eroding pretty bad. Well worth a short stop here.

Very nice place! Quiet, peaceful pond of warm water where you can just relax and enjoy the moment. There is a lifeguard and a shower, so everything to spend few delicious hours!

The water was lukewarm at the surface, but overall it was a little chilly. I hear it’s usually pretty warm, so I guess I came on the wrong day. Cool experience regardless, and it was cool to see how it connected to the ocean.

This should be called the kind of sort of luke warm mostly normal temperature pool. Was highly disappointed especially after reading a review that stated it was like a jacuzzi to them. Good place to bring kids I guess but this just wasn’t what I expected.

The water felt great but was a little grossed out when I read and thought about the bacteria the thrives in this water. There were all sorts of strange things going on when we went here the second time. The was a couple on the other side of the pool and the lady was shaving her partners head in the pool. Very odd behavior(to me) to perform in a public place.

Had a lot of fun here! It’s definitely unique and I would highly recommend coming here at least once if you’re staying on the Big Island. We stumbled upon this park because we were going to the Tide Pools a little further east and happened to pass by this park. On the way back, we decided to stop here. We were glad we did! It looks like an outdoor swimming pool, but is open to the ocean. There is a seawall that blocks most of the smaller waves. Larger waves do come in on occasion and send foamy cold water into the pool. Usually, the pool is quite warm, about body temperature. The day I went, it was cold because the tide was high and the waves were plentiful. The cold ocean water made it much colder than usual, but still comfortable. This pool is the result of volcanically heated water that pour our like a spring, forming this pool. It’s too hot by itself, but with the ocean water mixing, it makes for the perfect swimming pool. There are definitely areas where you can feel the warm water coming out. Kids love to be toward the ocean, where a big wave can bring freezing cold water into the pool. It’s quite exhilarating! There is a little place where you can shower off. It’s a fun place for locals.

Amazing! My friends and I were on the Big Island recently for fun and relaxation and Ahalanui was one of our stops along Puna’s famed«Red Road»(otherwise known as Kapoho Kalapana Road). We didn’t swim here because we planned to do that at the Kapoho Tide Pools, but I couldn’t resist standing in the pond up to my thighs. It felt great. Water temperature was perfect and I can see why both locals and tourists alike come here to relax. If you have time, check it out.

Fun geothermal warm ponds that are just along the coast, with a calm, relaxing water and a sick view. We were told the best times to come are in the morning or late at night, because of bacteria, so water can be sort of flushed out from the tides. Would be a perfect place to picnic or lounge around, while taking warming dips. Ultra relaxing spot.
