I’m only giving 4 stars because my son had such a great time with them last year. Otherwise, as a mother, I would give 3 stars. We are enrolling him again this year, so it’s obviously not horrible. Here’s the good, the bad and the ugly about Sand and Sea Camps(my own views). The Good: They seem to genuinely care about the kids in the camp and are very friendly and responsible about safety(most of the time). There were lots of teenage chaperones there to supervise the many kids they have enrolled and all were super friendly. My son looked forward to going every day he was there and left with wonderful memories that he’ll have forever. The Bad: They are a fairly unorganized group. There is some issue with there being an owner and an operator and the two can’t get along… or something. I don’t know exactly but it came up a few times when information wasn’t being shared between the person I was in contact with on the phone and the people at the camp. I was told on the phone that there would be wetsuits available but when I arrived at the beach, I was told that they had no such thing. Hmmm. I don’t know if this matters to anyone else, but their website leaves much to be desired. Some pages are just blank, the registration page is not the easiest to understand and the few photos they show in the gallery are from 2005(you can’t update??) The Ugly: I packed sunscreen in my son’s bag which he did not re-apply ATALL during his entire day there and came home with the worst sunburn I’ve ever seen. WTF??? Ok, my son was 12… he’s not going to think about re-applying sunscreen when he’s in and out of the ocean all day. But isn’t that why there are adults present? To make sure the kids stay safe, eat lunch, don’t stray and RE-APPLYSUNSCREENBEFORETHEYGET A 3RDDEGREEBURN??? Also, if you don’t pack your kid a lunch and they don’t have any money… they might not eat. I can’t verify this 100% since I wasn’t there, but my son told me this. I, personally, can’t imagine the people I met there letting a kid go hungry… but I thought it was worth mentioning. I know that I said some things that might seem harsh, but all in all I think it’s a good day camp. I think you should just be aware if you’re a first — timer here… As I said, the instuctors/chaperones at the camp are very nice and attentive. The kids all seem to have a great time and get along really well. On this second go-round though, I will be a little more detail oriented…
