They had a live music series over the summer on Friday evenings and featured a different band or musician throughout the entire season. They offered a grilled special in addition to their menu and the two times I went it was a delicious Wild Salmon for $ 12 one night and grilled Scallops the second time, but I can’t tell you the price because they sold out. There was an out-of-town business group holding their event on that night. On the second night, they had a wine tasting. The music on both nights was talented and fitting. Brian Diamond sang seventies tunes on a balmy summer evening. It might have been the warm, cloudless evening and the gorgeous ocean view that makes me want to give the place four stars. Because … The food menu is limited and casual and pricey for what you get. Also, there is no table service or limited table service so you go to the counter and order. Fine. But what if someone is in a wheelchair? I felt like I had to try to flag an employee down every time they passed. However, I get the feeling that it’s just how they do business. It’s a national park, with outdoor tables and several unique spots to sit at, including around a firepit(order a s’mores kit). So it’s not meant to be full-service. It’s meant to be a spot to take in the view, unhurriedly sip on wine with a cheese plate, and breathe the fresh PG air. Indoors they have lounge chairs, a fireplace and games. So I am judging on the fact that they’ll never have attentive service or gourmet menu items, but is a place where the scenery is the main draw and you won’t feel rushed to finish for the next reservation. Check out the store, where they give discounted aquarium tickets. Volleyball court nearby. Guided tours on website.

Pacific Grove, CA
Located in Pacific Grove, Phoebe Café is one of the best kept secret of this town. Everything here is good — guest service, the quiche, wine selection, the crowd and wow! even their electronic menu display is good! I highly recommend as a must visit when you’re in Monterey.
