The Oyster Bay Railroad Museum

The museum is in a building on Audrey Avenue, right near the Oyster Bay LIRR station and has various memorabilia there, but no «real» railcars or locomotives.
I couldn’t find the «real» trains, which are apparently in a railroad yard elsewhere, so my review is based on just the museum artifacts.
Update: The railcars are nearby, and it’s a great collection– fault was mine for not making the effort to find them before.

Railroad stuff from days gone by…
Not many people know that there has been a lot of work going on in Oyster Bay to build a Railroad museum featuring old Engine #35 which had apparently been rotting away in a warehouse somewhere on the island.
The museum itself is still being built — and the whole conglomeration straddles the actual live tracks of the Long Island railroad Oyster Bay yard — so you will actually get the rumble of the diesels in the background as you walk around the old turntable and restored engine and rolling stock.
The old station area is also under renovation so visitors can relive the era when the Teddy Roosevelt would arrive in O.B. by train to spend time at his home in the area.
Parking is tight as the area has been pretty much developed around the old station and turntable so some walking is necessary to get to the good stuff.
Not sure when it will be totally open and ready to go, but you can walk around and see Engine #35 (a ten-​wheeler for you railroad nuts) sitting in various pieces awaiting final reassembly.
Located adjacent to Roosevelt park and Beach so you can make a day of it.
