An actual hardware store. How cool. I thought they went the way of Blockbusters and radioshacks. There’s just something more personal about the experience compared to a Lowe’s or Home Depot. It is what it is. I’m sure there’s plenty they can do for you, but with limited space, they can’t have everything.

Wonderful customer service! I am not a New Yorker and I really value how friendly and helpful the gentleman who works here has been every time I have gone in. The selection is not as great as a big box store, but you already knew that. One time I went in for a particular item(a flour sifter) and while he didn’t have it in stock, he called another local business nearby to ask if they had one. I am a big believer in supporting local businesses and the customer service here is definitely worth paying a little more for. Go, help them stay in business. Home Depot isn’t going to miss you.

A very clean and well organized place full of all the stuff you might or might not need around the house. Our journey there was for some caulk for the tile in the bath. The gentleman behind the counter directed us to a decent selection of all manor of caulk. Local and convenient are the two best things about this place. I try to support smaller and locally owned businesses when I can– it’s just to easy to frequent the big box stores. One of the cooler displays I saw in there was an impressive array of beach bicycles. The clerk assured me that, indeed you can ride on soft beach sand with wide and under inflated tires just as you would on the road. But these puppies ain’t cheap– the one I noticed the tag on was asking close to $ 1750.00. Very cool though by all accounts.

Another small town hardware store with a huge selection of stuff you don’t need. The place has been around forever. I like to check out all the stuff in the windows like the model boats — what do they have to do with home repair? Hell if I know. They tend to have a better selection than Bernstein’s down the street but the prices will make you cry. Good in a pinch and a lot cleaner since it reopened after the fire.
