Hampton Inn Channel Islands Harbor

We had a great experience staying at the Hampton Inn, located in Oxnard, CA.
The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was cleaned promptly and cleaning staff was very friendly, as well.
Most amazingly was the serving staff at the breakfast buffet.
I’ve never encountered staff who genuinely seemed to truly care when they asked, each morning, how we were doing that day, if there was anything they could do for us, hoped we were enjoying ourselves and looked forward to seeing us the following morning.
They constantly came around to refill our coffee and clear off our table.
Very impressed and would stay with them again!

Great location, clean, GREAT service, nice rooms, comfortable, plenty of parking, and secure.
The reason they’re missing a star from me?
I could hear the amorous couple next door… coupling. Clearly. For an hour.
So could the wife.
So could the Kid.
A little sound insulation would rate this place perfect.
Staff — AWESOME. Everyone greets you, friendly and attentive. Free breakfast in the morning that was not just a few bagels and some fruit — was actually very good.

Clean rooms, nice staff, great location, the down side is tough parking and wall unit A/​C that sounds like a peterbuilt idling in the parking lot.

I had the best sleep ever! As soon as we walked in the door you could smell the clean bleached sheets and the room was so clean and waking up to the harbor was wonderful. Their breakfast was hot and delicious and the staff was attentive to us and they were so sweet too. I can’t wait to come back here again for sure, thank you so much!

Internet/​wifi signal is pathetic and drops all the time. Gone for more than 8 hours today and 30 minutes after I got back room service was here. I have work to do!!! Over-​spray from sprinklers in the parking lot left hard water stains on my car. Construction around the pool area left the walkway from the main bldg to the room bldg unusable during the day and had to walk around. This means the elevator is not easily accessible for those who need it. Pool closed due to maintenance.
I’m a Hilton guy and well, I should have stayed at another Hilton property!

I stayed here for the night while my sailboat was in the boat yard. Nice room and pretty good rate. The pool was under demolition and what I heard it was going to be filled in with dirt. I hope that is not right but the breakfast was pretty good and relaxing. Nice view from the 3 rd floor of the marina and water way. Good Value. Will recommend. People there were real polite. You don’t find that all the time anymore. Great Place to bring you wife to. Will do it just to be good to me wife. Maybe her b-​day or a just because day.

I reserved a room a week in advance and was explicit about having two beds. Our reservation and confirming email stated two queen beds plus the other amenities. When we arrived rooms were not ready. We returned after two hours and were directed to our room… it had only one bed. We returned to the desk to say that our reservation required two rooms. They told us to come back in another two hours. Exhausted we returned after two hours to hear that two beds were not available and that the computer said one ‘King,. We were made to feel that we were wrong! Since nothing else was available in town and we were very tired we took a room with one bed and an uncomfortable pullout. The ‘hot’ breakfast in the morning looked awful and we dined elsewhere. Would never stay at a Hampton again. It was also extremely overpriced for the poor staff and room quality.

I approach this review torn because it is very difficult to write a less than great review when the staff members are great. However because I travel frequently on business and rely on the feedback of others to select hotels, I feel it is important to return the favor fig others who do the same. First, this wasn’t my first option when looking for lodging in this area. But they were essentially the only hotel with availability during the duration of my trip. My experience interacting with the staff was good. They were polite and seemed to be customer service oriented. Which is always something you hope for. The experience for me however was overshadowed by the hotel itself. First when arriving to my room the hallway area had a very… VERY odd odor to it. Which immediately poses s red flag for me. Because I travel frequently I have learned various tips on how to check for thinks like bedbugs and overall cleanliness. As usual I followed my routine checking the mattress and box spring. All of which looked fine. But the drawers however offered an unsettling sight. Most people don’t check in drawers for signs of bedbugs so something like that could easily be missed. But the signs I have learned to look for seemed to be present in at least 3 drawers. Small red and black specks, some in line formation along the edges and in the corners. This prompted me to do an even more thorough search and scan of the room and common areas for BB’s. Fortunately I did not find any live BB’s so I’m not sure if they were present prior and have since been eliminated. But the fact that the drawers were not cleaned made me feel very uncomfortable in that room. Because it makes you wonder, what else was not cleaned properly. Which made seeing multiple bugs (didn’t appear to be BB’s) inside of the bathroom light fixture the point where I drew the line. I have attached a pic of this here as well as one of the drawers which is harder to see due to bad lighting. I didn’t notice the bugs in the light until checkout day otherwise I would have been out of there. The bottom line is, these types of things are unacceptable and shows a lack of attention to detail and quite frankly a lack of care for guests. As a paying guests at a hotel there are certain things you should never have to deal with. Bugs or issues with cleanliness are at the top of that list. I was so uncomfortable in that building that I’m sure it will bother me for a while. If you do have to stay here, I highly recommend you follow the BB prevention steps. Otherwise you may end up paying the price and bringing some unwanted friends home with you.

My second stay at this hotel and it was just as good as the first. Got a room on the third floor with a marina view… just me and wife. As usual, the view is spectacular, the room was very clean, bed was comfy, the staff is very helpful and courteous, and… oh heck, I just love this hotel and love the area. Breakfast was good as usual, but the friendliness of the staff always makes it a great breakfast experience. Vi was especially friendly and helpful! My wife really likes her and remembers her from our last visit almost five years ago.
We’re HHonors members so we may get a bit more than the normal overnight guest, but even first-​timers will want to become HHonors members after staying at this Hampton Inn.

The room was nice and big but the bed was hard and me and my wife could not sleep all night plus are TV remote broke and they could not fix it

This place is awesome. Right on the Marina. Nice rooms, they have little fridges, microwaves, a little couch in the room with the king size bed and a desk. But the best thing about this place, the staff. I’ve never been to a hotel where the staff was so friendly. The breakfast crew is outstanding, they’re so helpful, friendly and they remember you. The front staff wss friendly also, every time you pass by them they greet you with a smile. Great place, I’d totally stay here again. Stayed here for 2 weeks and loved it. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because the Wi fi kept going in and out. Signal isn’t very good.

Stayed here for a couple of days to get some work done– and it turned out to be a great choice. First, it’s quiet. Like way off the beaten path quiet– which is exactly what I needed. Second, it’s clean. From the check-​in counter to the rooms– very nicely maintained. And finally, though it’s not on the beach, it does boast a lovely view of the marina– which my patio allowed me to walk right out and enjoy whenever I wanted. Not a high style, luxury hotel, to be clear– but all in all, a great place to stay in Oxnard if you just need to disconnect and relax for a few days.

We had a nightmare experience down the street at another hotel we checked into it was the worst hotel and they had almost compared it being as good as this hotel we came here and they just completed a remodel it was absolutely fantastic! it’s exactly what I expected in a little bit more from a Hampton Inn. I love these hotels because I always know what to expect.

Nice location, clean room. Pool is in a weird location. The free breakfast is exceptional with a waffle bar… Mmmm

Great hotel. Peaceful, off the beaten path, quiet, non-​touristy, and relaxing. Not a place for partiers but for those wanting a more calming experience. Beautiful harbor view. Nice size rooms, quiet, comfy bed, very high shower head, and nice breakfast area. We stayed on the 3^rd floor and requested a harbor view room. We paid about $ 185 for a 2 bed room on a Thursday night and about $ 200 for Friday night.
Only real con is a sucky cell-​phone connection.
Will for sure stay again!

We started our road trip in the early afternoon to Oxnard, CA. It usually takes less than 2 hours to get to Oxnard from Orange County, but since it was a weekday afternoon, the LA traffic added an hour delay to our arrival time. We arrived at the Hampton Inn Channel Islands Harbor with time to check-​in and get ready for the evening. It is a cute hotel right on the Channel Islands Harbor marina. Although we did not get a marina view room (the last one was given out 5 minutes before we arrived), it was spacious with a view of the pool. The 2-​Queen Bed Non-​Smoking room has two comfortable queen beds, 32″ LCD TV, work desk, coffeemaker, and free WiFi. Our room also had a balcony to enjoy the seafront weather. Unfortunately, it was very humid during our stay so we were not able to use it.
* Travel tip: Santa Barbara hotel rates can be daunting during the summer with rates as low as $ 250 per night, but most are closer to $ 500 per night. Hotels in Ventura, Oxnard, and Camarillo might be a better option if you are keeping to a budget. The drive to Santa Barbara can range from 35 to 60 minutes from Oxnard. You’ll have to decide what is more important to you: longer drive time and saving money versus accessibility and higher hotel rates.
Day 2: The aroma of brewed coffee began to awaken the senses. Time for breakfast! A favorite is the make-​your-​own waffle station. They had cute little quotes on blackboards, like «A waffle is like a pancake with a syrup trap» from Mitch Hedberg. They also have dessert toppings like caramel and chocolate sauces, mini M&M’s, chocolate chips, mixed berries and whipped cream for a sweet treat. They also have a hot item section that changes daily. On this morning, it was scrambled eggs and sausage. Other breakfast favorites like yogurt, bakery items, and fruit are also available.
Day 3: The sun rose to partly cloudy skies in Oxnard, CA. The waffles called my name at the Hampton Inn Channel Islands Harbor. I went for a not-​so-​decadent waffle and topped it with strawberry preserves and a dollop of whipped cream. Hot items like sausage scramble and breakfast potatoes were served along with a nice array of tropical fruit like pineapple and papaya.
After breakfast, we explored the hotel grounds and found a gas fire pit. This would be nice after sunset to relax with a drink and/​or make s’mores for dessert.
Day 4: The last sunrise of the weekend made a beautiful palate of yellow, orange, blue, and purple in the sky to silhouette the palm trees in Oxnard. Our final breakfast included a dessert waffle, of course, along with a cheese omelet, sausage patties, and breakfast potatoes. The server who handled the breakfast area was so friendly with a «Good Morning!» and big smile for everybody during our stay. There were a lot of regulars who must stay here on their travels and she knew every one of them. It’s great to have someone who remembers you on your travels, making you feel more at home when away from home.

Hi! I love this place, for the fact is next a harbor and water. Love to hear the seal talk… and feel the cool breeze through the sliding door. I stay on the third floor and can see everything around. Love the peace and quiet of the water, specially in morning. The crispy fresh smell crackling dew and sound of seagull. This is very nice place to stay. The breakfast is very good. Patricia is wonder lady who take care breakfast every morning. She very sweet and gentle lady with beautifully smile. What so wonderful I’d that she remember me from the last time I came about year and half ago give or take. She awesome person. So, if decide give this place a try. Go and say «Hi» to her, you will see how wonderful she is.

My boyfriend and I stayed the weekend and were very impressed with this hotel and highly recommended. I travel about 50% of the time for work with several personal trips a year as well so I am picky and this Hampton exceeded my expectations. The location is perfect, quiet, peaceful and can get anywhere you want to go around town quickly. There is an Italian restaurant closeby that will deliver to your room. We had a king room on the 3^rd floor with a patio overlooking the water and a small park. The hotel is very clean, complimentary breakfast is good and friendly staff.

Very nice, newly renovated hotel. We had a beautiful marina facing room. I had hoped for an upper floor but we were assigned a ground floor. It worked out well because the marina view from all angles of the room was perfect. If we had been higher up, our view from inside the room would have been more sky than marina. The king sized bed faces the marina… sliding glass door open and a glass of wine in hand was the perfect way to unwind. Our room was the King Study and had a sofabed and coffee table. Great restaurants close by.
Nice, accommodating staff.

Staff were friendly. Room was clean. Needed minor maintenance in some areas. Breakfast as expected. Overly priced for services provided and views weren’t that great.
Didn’t know the word bellman. And my low sugar in the middle night I had to walk about a mile to IHOP to get orange juice, and front desk man wasn’t much help during the fiasco.
