They are one mile from my house. What more could a fellow ask for? Their beer selection is decent. They have hoppy beer for the hipster crowd(which they get a lot of) and malty beer for the rest of us. The seasonal selections are hit or miss, but hey, taste is in the mouth of the beholder right? I haven’t tried the«Disco Pig» varieties yet, so I can’t talk about those. The cost isn’t too bad, but is a bit higher than some of the other breweries. $ 8 for a 32oz growler refill and $ 5 for a pint. Sure it’s a little steep, but it’s still cheaper than buying it at a bar or restaurant. And this is Connecticut. USA-Today rates CT as #7 on their top 7 most expensive places to live. They have food trucks on Saturdays and big heavy Jenga to play.(I love the free video game in the corner). The overall feel of the place is good with a lean towards the industrial. The décor is definitely spartan with wood skid tables and rough strewn wood stools. I would love to see better(hipster-type) descriptions of the beers on their website. I’m certainly not a beer snob, but I do like to read about flavor notes and finishes etc… I like the newsletter that they produce. It’s really the best way to find out news and events. I’m not a Twit-Face, so I rely on the newsletter and website for info. Their website should have an rss feed(or a stock ticker) for what is currently on tap. Overall, this is a great upstart brewery. I definitely have and will continue to recommend it to everyone I know that likes good fresh micro-brewed beer.

Nice little space and decent beer. There are a few tables made out of palettes plus a free upright Pacman! The people working the bar are very friendly. Seems like a very popular place for hipsters to come and hang. Definitely worth checking out.

We drove about 45 minutes to experience a different brewery, we are normal patrons at Firefly Hollow in Bristol. When we arrived the staff was not super friendly and were staring at their watches, I guess they couldn’t wait to close(it was probably a long week with the holiday) with an hour and a half left. We ordered the Milk Stout which was nothing special but the WORST was the pour! They apparently don’t know how to pour Nitro as my beer had nearly half a glass of head on it! For a place that specializes in pouring beer that is pretty much a deal breaker. Their squeeler’s are cool but other than that, the ambiance, customer service and beer could learn something from Firefly.

Went to the website, saw they were open till six. Drove the 45 minutes and got here just after 430. Unfortunate they were closing the taps and they turned us away, so we didn’t get any brew…

Good standard beer. The brown wheat with rosemary was surprisingly nice. I liked the atmosphere. And the workers were friendly.

awesome vibe, awesome beer, food trucks outside, corn hole. very kid-friendly, even though we were there in scorched earth temperatures. my 4yo still enjoyed the corn hole out front. the owner was a good dude, he was out back cutting wood or something for what I’d guess was something brewery-related. kind of bummed they had no patches or coozies left but i’ll be back for sure, hopefully when they’re in stock.

Great beers, some of them, super pretentious hipster attitude oozing from the pores of the wait staff here though… so if being condescended too as you’re trying to drink a pint or a taster isn’t really your thing then… well, yea know.

Great beer! What else do you need(nothing). A few more seats wouldn’t be to bad of an idea. Food truck Saturday is great.

Sadly this place is probably the worst brewery I have ever been too. None of their beers are actually good(their swag didn’t taste like grapefruit in any way, their ginger beer didn’t taste like ginger), their growlers are over priced at $ 15(although their pints are priced well at $ 4) and they only give 1 sample per customer. I basically tried a flight of beers and nothing stood out to me. I wanted to get 2 growlers since I went almost an hour out of my way to try this place since they got good reviews on Unilocal, but they really do not have even one good beer let alone 2 so I won’t be back. Two Roads, New England brewing, SBC and Captain Lawrence are either closer or the same distance and all of them are better than this place.

Excellent beer, superior service, knowledgable staff(not memorized staff). You can’t go wrong with the addition of Saturday food trucks or BYOF.

A+ operation. Exciting young brewery led by brewmaster Tyler, a young man wise beyond his years regarding the craft of brewing The entire staff is delightful and most importantly the beers are of the utmost integrity

Has a funky vibe. Tried all the beers on tap. I liked the coffee milk stout the best the rest were too hoppy and had a slight bitter taste. But a neat experience. You must try it for yourselves.

I hosted a Private Tasting Party for my Husband’s Surprise 30th Bday Party and it was everything I wanted and more! From the minute I booked the place Tom was very helpful with answer all my ridiculous questions. I also spoke and met Ryan before the party and he was very helpful as well. I couldn’t have asked for a better night! All of our guests were happy as well. Beer is delicious! We brought in our own food. I would definitely do an event there again in the future. It was worth it! It has a great industrial feel to it, it has an open lay out, Jenga and Video games to play as well. The staff was very helpful when it came to setting up everything I needed, I made posters and a photo booth! Bartenders we’re really nice as well! I’m beyond happy with my experience and encourage everyone to check it out for your next private event or just head over on a Saturday afternoon for a tasting!

Went here this past Saturday. Only had four beers, stout tapped out, all four beers were good. Will definitely go back especially to try their stout.

Over the past several years, Connecticut has been lucky enough to experience a local beer renaissance and Black Hog Brewing Co, one of Connecticut’s newer breweries, is a welcome addition. Having tasted their beers at various watering holes throughout the state — I can say that their beer line up was solid but what better way to test this theory then to go right to the source. As with many of Connecticut breweries — make sure you have a good sense of direction or at least a GPS as several K-turns were made before we located our destination. Very low key tasting room, with some great music playing in the background, where you can taste a flight and also get a pint if it suits your fancy. I went on a snowy Saturday afternoon and unfortunately they did not have as many taps available as they usually do. However — what they did pour for us was quite tasty — THC Centennial was my favorite of the flight with the Granola Brown Ale and Easy Ry’ Da. I also sampled the Coffee Milk Stout on Nitro — very smooth but not my favorite of the day. Cans are not available for purchase at the brewery but you can get Growler fills and if you are lucky some of their special bottled sour beers to age for later consumption. In addition — there was a food truck parked outside, which came in handy as we toiled away the hours on the free play Ms. Pac Man/Asteroid video game. The Spud Stud provided a hot tasty treat to complement the cold/fresh beer. Sipping on a cold pint of CT Beer with eclectic music playing in the background — not a bad way to spend a snowy Saturday. I will be back in the future to try some of those varieties that were«tapped» out.

We ventured out on a snowy weekend to visit the guys at Black Hog based upon previous tastings of their beer with good reviews. What we found when we got there was perfect! The location itself is set FAR away from the road in an industrial park, so they may want to consider marking their wearabouts a little better. Once inside, it’s a very pig-pen looking brewery with that theme matching their product perfectly! The food truck on site was spot on, the employees were very knowledgeable, and the tap list was fantastic! Even though they’re close to 50 minutes away, I look forward to returning soon!

Great vibe here. Friendly staff and patrons. The beer is tasty and true to style. Nothing to crazy, though definitely given its own twist on classics. There is a food truck every Saturday.
