Big Bad Breakfast is one of those restaurants that really have a sterling reputation. Only open for breakfast and lunch, it is considered to be a must stop to eat while visiting Oxford. One reason? It’s part of the John Currence empire of food places that are so popular. Located less than 1 mile from The Square it sits in a shopping center rather quiet and unassuming. That changes when there is a big Oxford or Olé Miss event when throngs of people invade it. Last week I popped in on a quiet Wednesday in June for breakfast. The waiter told me that the most popular breakfast item was the BBB skillet so I ordered it. The meal consists of 3 scrambled eggs with ham, bacon, potatoes, cheese and sausage. The food arrived about 10 – 15 minutes later. My first impression was that it was a lot of food. Seriously, you need your MAN pants on to eat all of this meal. I thought it was very good with plenty of content including meat. It came with a delicious biscuit. Eat this meal for breakfast and you will most likely skip lunch! My table service was good. I enjoyed my visit and would be happy to return. Next time I would like to try a lunch item. I guess that’s okay at a place named Big Bad Breakfast! Believe me, the name speaks the truth!!!

Visited BBB for the first time this morning. They were moderately busy but I got seated at the counter immediately. The service was quick and the coffee was good & hot too. I had the big bad breakfast, 2 eggs, sausage, biscuit and fresh fruit.(Truly fresh fruit too, with pineapple, blueberries, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, strawberries & grapes) Waiter asked if I wanted any gravy for my biscuit and I opted for the tomato gravy. My order came out quick and everything was exceptional. The tomato gravy was great. Definitely will visit again.

My favorite breakfast spot. I don’t get to go nearly as often as I wish I could, but it never disappoints.

Finally made it to the legendary BBB! After being told the wait was 30 – 45 minutes, we were seated in 15 minutes! Got hot coffee and biscuits with blueberry jam as soon as we sat down — we had great service from Jake! I got the oatmeal pancakes with chocolate chips(SO good and so fluffy!) with a side of bacon(somehow juicy and thick and crispy at the same time) and cheese grits(simple but yummy!) and I just stuffed myself silly. My breakfast buddies got omelettes and skillets, all of which looked delicious! Can’t wait to go back and so happy I got to go :)

A true gem of southern food goodness, the shrimp and grits get the full five stars for absolute nom glory. The shrimp – grilled to perfection with the right amount of char. The grits – every mouthful melts in your mouth with just the right amount of buttery goodness. The tomato and bacon concoction complimented the gooey goodness that is of the sunny side egg. If you’re looking for perfection in your mouth, this is the grits you were looking for. Don’t be discouraged by the wait – my cousin and I waited for an hour for our table but with food like this – well worth it.

I’m so stoopid. I Should’ve known better than to give a John Currence place another shot. Had the pel egg ican brief dish with a side of sweet potato hash and a small OJ. Hash is just sweet potatoes cut up into tiny cubes with nothing else. That’s not hash! Country ham was just a small thin sliver. At least there wasn’t a line. I left hungry. I won’t be back and can’t reccomend.

Consistently good offering all the breakfast options you could possibly want. Their shrimp and grits is really really great! The only negative is that the coffee could be stronger.

Big Bad Breakfast(affectionately known as BBB) is where dreams come true. Yes, you will most likely have to wait at least 45 minutes to eat here on the weekend, but, yes it’s worth the wait. Everything is made in house, the jams for the biscuits, the andouille sausage, the biscuits, the gravy. They take the time to make these amazing treats and you can taste the passion for their food in every bite you take. I have had the with signs following, the BBB breakfast platter, the breakfast sandwich, cinnamon rolls, Bloody Mary, etc. It’s all extremely delicious. Like I mentioned above the taste of the home made andouille sausage is amazing as is the tomato gravy. This is comfort food southern cooking at its finest. Come with a small group, side step the mess of waiting in line, and eat in the sister restaurant Snackbar. They serve the full BBB menu if you grab a spot at the bar. They also are all about local sourcing, farm to table. Almost all the food comes from Mississippi. When we were there they had lucky town brewery hot coffee beer on tap, which is rare, but it was awesome. I appreciate that they use these local vendors. Their homemade jam that goes on the biscuits is indescribably good. It’s fresh, fruity and makes every bite of a biscuit that much better. You can also buy their jams and meats up front, which I’ve done many times. All of my family requests their jams so it makes great holiday gifts. As mentioned above, it’s worth the wait, it’s delicious, it’s southern, it’s authentic. Eat here.

So I was in Oxford, MS visiting my daughter at Olé Miss. I have been wanting to try this place out as the lines and the wait was always so long. Went there this morning and finally got right in. I am not sure what all the hype was about? The food was good. I had the Big Bad Breakfast that consisted of 2 eggs, home potatoes, 1 slice of whole wheat bread and a couple pieces of bacon. The bacon was very good. The eggs? Well they are eggs and tasted like eggs. The potatoes were room temperature which was disappointing. The coffee was hot. Service was excellent. Honestly I was just not blown away. The skillet breakfast looked very good and I will try that next time. The prices, in my opinion, are too high for what you get. Luckily, this morning, they were offering 25% off if you dine prior to 9am. I will go back again, but I just do not understand all the hype. I will definitely go back as I truly feel this place could be and should be a solid 4 stars.

The BBB is the perfect spot for a classic southern brunch or breakfast. The wait was long, but ultimately the food is worth it. The service is great, our waiter was extremely attentive. The atmosphere is very friendly. There’s a great selection on the menu, from scrambled egg skillets, to fried chicken. All of the food that we ordered was great: cooked well, hot, served quickly. Big Bad Breakfast came highly recommended and lived up to it’s expectations, if not exceeded them.

Wait is crazy! Parties of 4 and 5 being seated before tables of 2 and 3, even though arrived later. I’m writing this review much longer after my visit than I should have, so this will be short get informative. Imo, unless you grew up in the country, on a farm… There’s a 50⁄50 chance you’ll enjoy the food. The food has that super fresh farm taste… Like animals slaughtered in the kitchen doubt before coming to the table fresh. That may be your thing, but certainly not mine. Nothing I had was bad, but DEFINITELY not worth the hype. Especially especially especially considering the wait! Like I said in the intro… Their seating system ISBROKEN. Seating larger parties may be better for your business, but you can’t overlook parties of 2&3 just to fill seats. Anyway, I wouldn’t return here, even if there wasn’t a wait.

I stopped in to BBB on recommendation and with very little time on November 10. It was a Tuesday morning so I was able to walk right in and sit at the bar. The restaurant has a great old-school diner vibe and as soon as I checked out the menu I was hopeful for a great breakfast. I opted to go with The Awesome, a create-your-own omelette where they will put any ingredient you can find on their menu inside it. Now I’m not an extremely intrepid or adventerous eater, but I thought the bacon, cheddar, and pimento sounded like it would be a good combo, so that’s what I went with. When my plate came the omelette was fat and the eggs were nice and soft, so I was pretty excited,(and VERY hungry). When I took the second bite I about died,(the first bite was just egg so it didn’t count). This was The Best Omelette I’ve ever had and I’m not a young woman. Their«signature» bacon, in combination with the cheddar and pimento was pretty epic. Acutally it was heavenly and my only regret is that it wasn’t twice the size. The toast was also really nice because it was sliced thick and came with whipped butter. The home fries were pretty standard fare, but properly seasoned. I really didn’t get anything unusual or «southern», but it still tasted SO much better than any breakfast I get here in Raleigh, where there are endless options for trendy, hipster breakfast joints. This breakfast was so delicious I bought a t-shirt — and one for my husband who wasn’t even there! The servers were all super-friendly and when I return with my husband in May, I will make him a believer too!

Wasn’t that impresssed with the spicy bacon: a bit too limp for my standards. I enjoyed the biscuits and homemade jam. This place must rock on football weekends. Fortunately, we ate there on a normal morning, no crowds.

3 stars is generous. This place is highly recommended and interestingly enough, there is another location in the city in which I live, but Oxford seems to be the mecca. We called ahead to gauge the wait time about an hour after waking up and decided to make our way over to BBB. Once we arrived, lots of folks were waiting to greet us on the ‘porch’. We added our name to the 1.5−2 hour waiting list and began to anxiously wait. Surely enough the seating arrangement/wait time seemed totally unfair as some folks with larger parties(4−5ppl) were seated way before 2 – 3 party tables=Big Bad Business! The issues at the front door were horrible and damn near inexcusable, but the only reason why ppl stayed is b/c BBB is highly referenced as ‘life changing’…not so(IMO)! Our names went on the list at 10am, we weren’t seated until 11:45am. I didn’t have a huge problem waiting as I wasn’t starved, but no one should have to be passed over. Being overlooked was poor customer service to me. I understand it’s a business but I don’t think it’s fair knowing I’ve waited damn near 2 hours and some folks walk up– in 5 minutes are seated= one less star on the customer approval rating. We all ordered the big bad breakfast in some variation, but I’ll focus on mine. Two scrambled eggs with cheese(lots of it, almost too much), chicken sausage(I removed the casing — never like it), biscuit(w/blackberry jam) and grits. Overall, the breakfast was good, but not spectacular as ppl rave about. I’m happy to have had the experience, but I can’t say I’d be eager to return. Big Bad Breakfast is not so Big and Bad in my book.

Had the Big Bad Breakfast Platter with bacon, cheese grits, eggs over medium, a biscuit, and sausage gravy. It was absolutely delicious! The bacon is cured with Tabasco and brown sugar, which takes it to another level. The sausage gravy was truly some of the best I’ve ever had – nice chunks of sausage in a thick, delicious, peppery white gravy. The server also brought me a little bit of their house-made peach jam to try, and it was very good. My server said the wait to get in is very long on weekends, but at 10:00 on a Wednesday morning, I walked right in and sat at the diner-style counter.

I was super excited to try out this local hotspot. The place was bustling with people enjoying the homie atmosphere. We seated ourselves and was greeted by our server right away. I decided to try The Big Bad Breakfast with bacon, home fries, biscuit, and sunny side eggs. We got our food in no time and the hype of this place is spot on. The eggs were cooked perfectly and it was my first time having spicy peppered bacon. I read that the biscuits were made from scratch and they were delicious.

I love breakfast food. I don’t like greasy diners. This place was fabulous. Again, my attempt to eat more affordable John Currence fare. You don’t need reservations here and prices were moderate. We arrived just before the lunch rush and got a table right away on a Saturday late morning. I thoroughly enjoyed my shrimp and grits. Bacon and tomatoes topped off the grits. It also came with two sunny side up eggs and I got a biscuit. So delicious. Quite possibly the best grits I’ve ever had. The eggs were perfectly cooked so the the yolks were just a little runny. The biscuit was buttery and flaky. There is seating along a diner countertop, smaller two tops and four tops, and some booths. There were a mix of families, college kids, and couples. It definitely got busy and by the time we were done, there were about 10 people waiting for tables. Fast service. Accepts credit cards.
