Horrible. Bottom line: Does not stand by his service and is deceptive We used Darrin’s Cleaners for many months with no issues but in November 2012 I dropped off several items including a new Johnston & Murphy men’s wool sweater that got stained during the first week of wear. They weren’t able to get the stain out(which is understandable and was not an issue) BUT they shrank the men’s large sweater — it was felted and did not appear much bigger than a woman’s small. When I returned to Darrin’s, the girl at the counter said not to worry that Darrin stands by his service and would take care of it — but he wasn’t in. When I returned a second time(with a catalog so he could reorder the sweater) and spoke with Darrin he agreed that clearly they’d made a mistake and he’d take care of it, but he said he’d like to try to resize it before ordering a new sweater. I expressed concern that the weave wouldn’t be the same but he insisted I’d be amazed at how good it would look.(Had this been rectified at this point with a refund and an apology, I’d be writing a very positive review instead of this one.) I stopped in the next week, but the work was not yet done. I stopped in the week after that and he showed me the sweater but it clearly was still not a men’s large. He claimed that he had used another Johnston & Murphy’s large to size it and insisted it was right. I held it up to myself and showed how the sleeves would not even be long enough for me. He said they’d resize it again. Meanwhile, I ordered another sweater. When the original sweater was finally returned we compared it to the new sweater and took photographs showing the differences in size and texture. I returned to Darrin’s with the receipt for the sweater, the sweater, and the photos. He was no longer friendly and reassuring — he was combative and defensive. Within a minute he threw in a non sequitur that if this ended up in court he’d win. I wasn’t even thinking of court — I just wanted to be reimbursed for the sweater they’d ruined. He said he couldn’t do anything for us because the sweater was stained and he had no use for it. I reminded him that he(Darrin) knew it was stained from the beginning and that wasn’t the issue — the issue was that they shrank the sweater. I reminded him that he’d assured me that they’d take care of it. He lied and said that was before he knew there was a stain. At one point he offered to refund me $ 60 instead of the $ 159+tax and I was going to agree to that as a compromise. He went to the register but then came back without the money. I asked where it was and he said he’d given me $ 60 in store credit — which by this time I’d realized I’d never use because I will never take business there again.
