Really nice, interesting plants for very reasonable prices. Not to mention that it’s a beautiful place to visit.

I worked here 7 years ago for the Halloween events. They take fun Halloween stuff really seriously, and they were great people to work for, really take care of their workers even the temporary staff. I worked in the haunted house, and then moved on to doing the Haunted Hayrides. I think about going back every fall to tour through. :)

What a beautiful place for a wedding ceremony! That’s exactly why Tioga Gardens and I crossed paths last week – for my best friend’s wedding. Gorgeous location, friendly staff, and presumably reasonable wedding fees. My boyfriend and I drove down early from Syracuse for last Friday’s wedding rehearsal and ended up having about an hour to kill exploring the Tioga Gardens complex, which consists of a gift shop/store, florist building, stunning domed greenhouse for show, a typical rectangular greenhouse containing plants for sale, and sprawling lush gardens. I thought the gift shop items were really neat and, for the most part, reasonably priced. There was such a variety of things, much more than just«lawn trash.» After considerable contemplation we purchased a floating life-like mallard duck for my boyfriend’s father’s impressive pond because, well, my boyfriend has had a thing for duckies(specifically mallards, weird) ever since he was a baby. A gentleman whom I assumed was the owner/manager was more than pleasant and even complimented me on my dress and shoes – bonus points! The wedding site is located around back of the main buildings. There are a variety of areas within the gardens where a couple can be wed, and the location seems great for both intimate and massive ceremonies. A few focal points include a gazebo(in front of which my friend was married), a pond with the most gorgeous humongous water flowers I’ve ever seen, and an arched wooden bridge. Everything was quite picture perfect and well-maintained. I really can’t think of a reason to give Tioga Gardens less than 5 stars.

Its hard for the little guy to succeed in todays current economic climate. Private businesses just cant compete against giants like Wallmart, Lowes, and home depot. Tioga Gardens has been valiantly serving the community for decades. From garden supplies, to plants, fruit, flowers and shrubbery, they had every floral base in the southern tier covered. TG expanded to include landscaping, and weddings(both in decorations and a beautiful place to hold a wedding reception complete with covered eating hall, gazeebo and lily pond).
In order to change with the times, they have been offering a kick ass Haunted hayride and scare fest. There is no better place to get your seasonal items, christmas trees, pointsettias, lillies, pumpkins, etc. Like any private business, Tg has had to do battle with the above mentioned super stores, which constantly undercut the prices with poor quality and unskilled labor and help. Tioga Gardens has always provided the public with the top quality products, maintained properly by professionals, use qualified associates in positions which help the customer. This practice is dying however. We need to support these private businesses and let them thrive to keep the conglomerates from turning this into McEconomy. Tioga Gardens is a great place to just wander and hang out. Large places like Longwood Gardens in PA have steep admition to get in and while Tioga is a much smaller set up, its free and very cool at the same time. Stroll by the lily pond, see the sights in the famous rainforest dome. smell the flowers and breathe the air. Take the kids to kill a few hours for free(a good idea in this economy). Dont forget though, to buy a little something, to support the little guy against the big bullies.
