Best Sushi Ever! !!! Sooo great to find a hidden gem in Alafaya Square shopping center. Plus, a Japanese Hibachi grill too. As close to a Benihanna that there is!!! My new sushi place. Reasonable, personable, and simply scrumptious! !!! Eat here!!!

Decent for traditional tapenyaki habachi. Sushi rolls were excellent, waitressing was about average. The cook was typically entertaining but nothing outrageous. I was surprised they could not make a Mai Tai… very odd. Yum Yum sauce could have been tastier but the filet and scallops were very good and fresh. I’ve had better but given its just a couple miles away, I would go back. I wouldn’t go out of my way JUST for this place however.

I got the tuna kobachi, spicy tuna handroll, spicy scallop handroll, baby octopus salad, and the salmon roll. The tuna kobachi is not worth it at all. It is $ 10.55, small, and not tasty. They decided to rub masago all over it, giving it a weird texture, and it made it taste weird. Their sauce for it was a watered down kobachi sauce. I would pay 4 bucks for their version. I would happily spend over 15 for good kobachi and this isn’t one of them. I also decided to get a baby octopus salad. The octopus came frozen… Literally. They were still unfreezing it and it had a bit ice on it and frozen parts. It was very weird. The two handroll were decent but they both used the same filling making them taste the same. I feel like some company is giving these standard americanized restaurants this filling for cheap for them to use on spicy everything rolls as I’ve tasted this version at restaurants before. Im not saying americanized restaurants are bad as I like a few of them. But when restaurants use these standards. They make their food taste the same. There is nothing unique about this place. I did like the salmon roll but that is literally salmon rolled seaweed with rice… Pretty hard to mess that up. I haven’t tried their hibachi or other food. I want to in order to see if its good but I don’t want to take the chance. I don’t like being disappointed

Earlier in the I took my young daughter here for her Birthday, just Daddy and Daughter. It was really nice. We had a cucumber roll which was delicious. They hostess was very nice and seated us at a table immediately. She was very prompt with the drink refills during our meal. I believe things were very slow during the early hours on weekday dined. We had the entire table to ourselves, which was actually pretty nice. The cook was entertaining especially with the butterflies, hot mustard, and other puns/tricks. The food was really tasty. We got fried rice with our meal and it was delicious. This establishment did distinguish itself in that you get noodles included in your meal, in addition to rice. This really fills you up… take-out boxes are pretty common. Being it was my daughter’s birthday, they brought some ice cream for her with a candle on top, sang Happy Birthday, and had some ethnic instruments they rang and gong’ed during the celebration. The only reason I didn’t rate it 5 stars was because I believe a rating that high is reserved for the truly exceptional dinning establishments. This place was Awesome and I highly recommend it.

Very disappointed. $ 65 for a poor take-out experience. The sushi was bland. No flavor. Poor quality. Pieces would fall apart and hardly any rice was used. Lots of bare spots. Honestly, if I tried to make sushi, this is how it would have turned out. Sorry, but we won’t be back. This place needs help.

It’s a little disappointing to see how this place is declining. A couple years ago as a college student, I absolutely LOVED this restaurant! In fact, I even chose this as the dinner spot to have my first drink on my 21st birthday. Talk about special! Here we are– 4 years later and Shogun has become«just okay». The sushi is usually pretty tasty, but the Hibachi has recently let us down. My salmon tasted like something I could whip up at home in a pan with my own soy sauce, and my husband’s shrimp and chicken was on the same level. The rice and veggies were pretty good, but my husband insisted that the noodles were nothing to write home about. At the end of the day if you’re looking for a legitimate Japanese Steakhouse experience, it’s hard to beat the nearby Kobe. Just sayin’…

Had shrimp Tempura that was perfectly fresh with a wonderful light batter. The sweet potato tempura was amazing. Had a Philadelphia Roll and I love that they don’t use a lot of rice, with beautiful fresh salmon. Usually the pickled ginger isn’t a big deal when I get sushi rolls but theirs is very fresh and flavorful. My husband had filet mignon and shrimp hibachi which he was very happy with that as well. Our new favorite Japanese restaurant!

I have only gotten takeaway from here before and right after eating their food I got a VERY upset stomach. It was not good and I have a feeling they make their food with a lot of «junk.» Didn’t taste very fresh. Their«white sauce» is nothing compared to Kobe’s and they are a bit overpriced for the food they serve. Not too pleased. :(

My family stopped in here on New Year’s day after realizing the Vietnamese place nearby was closed. We were all hungry by that point, love sushi and saw the ‘Open’ sign at Shogun in the same strip mall area. It was a pretty empty night, with maybe 1 other table seated for sushi and 1 table seated for hibachi. We opted for the sushi side and rather than take a long time ordering individual plates, we just ordered the Titanic Boat, which the menu says serves 3 – 4 people(there were 4 of us), and cost about $ 69. I thought it was kind of odd that a meal that says it serves 3 – 4 people, and comes with soup/salad would only give that soup/salad to 2 people. So we ended up ordering an additional 2 soups so we each had one. The sushi wasn’t bad at all, but nothing too memorable. The appetizers were a big hit. While our server was very friendly, we did get served our sushi without any plates and had to wait a few minutes and signal her back before we could eat anything. If I returned here with the same number of people, I would probably pass on ordering the Titanic Boat, and have everyone order separately, since none of us felt very full after.

Im a big fan of this place. I go in for the sushi and think its great. Besides a standard sushi menu they also have a specialty roll menu. Tom the manager is always happy to alter a roll. His wife and him remember their regulars and Its nice walking in to a hello and they know your drink and appetizer. I never had a bad night here. Being near UCF they do go through wait staff but the owner Tom wife Winnie is always there serving people and is one of the nicest people ever.

I’m never going back there again. I went last night and I had hibachi. When I was chewing on my hibachi noodles I felt something hard. I thought it was a burnt noodle so I spit it out. When I grabbed what looked like a noodle, I noticed that it was plastic wrap and I unraveled it. It was about the size of half a dollar bill. When I told the manager that there was plastic in my food and showed it to him, he replied«it’s ok, it’s clean» He said it was from when they cut the sushi, its wrapped in plastic. Meanwhile the plastic was not found in my sushi, it was found in my noodles. They offered to make me another meal but at that point I was disgusted. All it takes is for me to find an extra thing that doesn’t belong in my food to make me not want to eat. I’ll stick to Kobes.

Very poor service and rude waiters. Our party of five arrived around 6:30. We had called ahead to make sure they would be able to accommodate us and they said it was fine. We arrived and another party of five(two parents and three children all under 10) was already in the waiting area. We were all adults and not particularly interested in sitting with the loud and, quite frankly, unsupervised children. We asked if we could wait until a new table became available. Unfortunately, they only had two chefs available that night. So, the wait would excessive and they did not suggest it. We asked if we could still order the hibachi meals if we sat at the regular tables and a hostess said the food would be the same(just without the«show»). The main hostess did not speak English well enough to understand our request and would not allow the other waitress to seat us in the regular seating area. She shooed the other girl off, waited until the other hibachi table was cleared, seated the party of five with the children, and then came to take us to the hibachi table(and additional 10 minutes). We explained to her for the second time that we wanted to sit in the standard seating area if the food was the same. Eventually she understood and she assured us that it would be exactly the same food and insisted on serving us herself. We all ordered waters, everyone got a beverage of some sort, and we all ordered the hibachi meals that came with salad, soup, and the meat with noodles, vegetables, and rice. Our water did not come until after the salad course. The drinks came at the same time(five minutes after ordering). The salad was good and came with the standard ginger dressing. The soup was good as well and was the standard broth. The main problem came when the entrees arrived. Despite being assured that the food would be «the same» as that prepared in front of us, it was clearly not prepared in the same way. The rice was not fried, the noodles were soggy, the vegetables were steamed and had clearly not touched a grill, and the meat, which was pale and lacked any sort of browning, also clearly had not been on the grill. When we pointed this out to our server she assured us it was«the same.» It was a clear falsity as if the food had so much as touched the grill it did not look or taste like normal hibachi. We had been mislead about how the food would be prepared. I assume this was done because they did not want us to leave and not spend a substantial sum. No offers to re-cook the food was made. No apologies. She just kept simply repeating it was«the same.» Additionally, our waters were not refilled until she brought the check. We were extremely disappointed and will not be returning.

We went here as a family and it was ok. Compared to Kobe’s, I would give this restaurant a 6 out of 10. The soup that came out was mediocre and I usually eat all the soup at Kobe’s. The salad didn’t look very appealing. My boyfriend tasted the salad and didn’t like it. Our cook on the hibachi grill was great and the food that he cooked for us, chicken, shrimp and beef was very good. The service was just ok, we weren’t offered chopsticks before the food came out and I was disappointed at that. If you want a cheaper version of Kobe’s in Oviedo, then this is the place to go. Another plus is that they offer coupons on their site and we got our kids meal for free. As for me, I will be sticking to Kobe’s for now.

I came here with a friend and it was okay, but I wouldn’t come back. I’ve been spoiled with good sushi, so the Tuna Sushi was okay. I honestly don’t know if they use real tuna or if they’re subsituting another fish, which is a question I have with many sushi places nowadays since apparently mislabeling is common. Anyways, food conspiracies aside, it was decent and decent is still fine. My friend and I both ordered kids meals which I recommend because you still get a plate full of food and it’s cheaper than what the adults get. We started with miso soup that tasted fine and got the Calamari Kids Meal. The plate was filled with calamari, noodles, rice, and vegetables. It was good, but I’m sure I inhaled more MSG than I ever needed Still, it’s a pretty good deal for $ 11. Service was fine, the location and ambiance were fine, the food was fine. It was just average and ‘blah,’ and I’m picky.(For the record, I’m not a fan of Kobe really either, not my preferred kind of food.)

My hubby and I chose this Shoguns for our Valentine’s Day dinner this year as we are staying in the area. I made reservations about 10 days ahead of time just to be sure we could get in on a major holiday. I’m not sure if you would normally need reservations, but most Shoguns I have seen are quite busy. I must say that we enjoyed our food and the hibachi chef was friendly and entertaining. The décor isn’t anything special. The rest of the staff was friendly enough, but no one really stood out as exceptional. As for the food, I’ve had better seasoned steak and shrimp, but this was tasty. I just prefer bolder flavors. We had a California roll and it was okay as well, not as good as other places. Also, my husband along with another couple, were sat at a grill with a family that had small children. That was rather unpleasant on a romantic evening out. Perhaps a bit more planning should go into seating so like minded folks could sit together. Overall though, it was a pleasant experience and I would return again.

We come here almost every week. We stick to the sushi bar and have never been disappointed. Service is slow but the food makes up for it. Andrew, the sushi chef, transforms the fish into the most beautiful dishes. They have a great selection of saki as well.

Stopped in for dinner Friday night… in take service(«can I get you something to drink?») was poor(watched 4 waiters stand around… had to ask for something to drink)…food was bland(couldn’t put a finger on it… but, not flavorful at all)…70 bucks later… yikes I should have checked out the reviews before ordering anything from this place again. Ordered take out via Doorstep Delivery recently. Junk food.

This review is specifically for the sushi portion of the restaurant. If and when I try the hibachi grill, I’ll update accordingly. I sat at the sushi bar for lunch, and had no problems with the customer service. As a matter of fact, I liked the fact that the sushi chef took my order directly, and then gave it to the waitress later to put it on the bill. I haven’t seen much of that lately, and I like the direct contact with the chef. Too many places expect you to do everything through the waitress even thought the chef is right in front of you. At any rate, looking through the sushi menu, it quickly became apparent that I wasn’t going to find much that suits my style. That is, I prefer little or no fried ingredients, and at least one type of raw fish. I opted for the Rainbow Roll [see photo], which was basically a couple of types of fish on top of a California Roll(again with the California Roll! Why sushi joints feel the need to base everything off of a boring California Roll, I’ll never understand.) I also ordered a yellowtail roll and an order of yellowtail nigiri [see photo]. The Rainbow Roll was okay, although the fish was cut thinner than I am accustomed to(generally thin enough to see through). A couple of the slices were a bit too loose and one came apart on me. I had also wished that there was a bit more rice, there seemed to be only a minimum to maintain cohesion. The yellowtail roll was okay, as was the nigiri. The fish wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but also not the worst. I’m not sure if it’s the fish quality, or where the pieces are cut from, or what, but sometimes when I’m eating yellowtail nigiri or sashimi it leaves something like an oily sensation on the roof of my mouth afterwards. I got that here, but I don’t always get it. It also had a little bit more of a fishy aftertaste than I am accustomed to with good yellowtail. Overall, I’d say it was just okay. Nothing was offensively bad. I don’t know if it was worth the $ 25 check though. I will come back one day to try the hibachi, the people eating over there seemed to be having a good time.

For lunch a co-worker and I wanted sushi, its quickly becoming a consistent thing. However, we are trying to venture out and find new places. Understanding that a certain location close to this one is only open for dinner, we settled for Shogun, and I do mean settled. Maybe its my snobby attitude with service, or having experienced so many other sushi places that makes me a harsh critic. However, with today’s economy, I would tell my staff ensure every experience was A+ We walk in and are immediately sat. there are several large groups having hibachi, but only 2 – 3 small tables for sushi. After sitting the girl comes over right away and asks if we want anything to drink. yes, two waters. 10 mins passes and I say«we just ordered water, right?». Just as that time the girls shows up with the water. I tell my co-worker, «you better know what you want and order it now, who knows when we’ll get it if water took 10 mins». I order the florida roll, and yellow tail roll. Florida roll has spicy crab, tuna and spicy mayo with cucumber. My co-worker orders the anger roll and spicy tuna roll. While she is asking the waitress to leave off the avocado, I take a sip of my water and could not believe how disgusting it tasted. To give the benefit of the doubt, I asked my co-worker to try her water. She said it was fine. Maybe it was my taste buds, but if I ever had to drink water from a toilet, that would be exactly how I’d imagine it to be. LOL Co-worker also orders some edamame to start. That comes out in 5 – 10, decent time but curiously fast for this place. After the first bite, I figure out why. They had it microwaved. Nothing says yum like microwaved edamame! as expected it was really hot and undercooked! :( Where the lunch turned out ok was with the rolls. our rolls were tasty and seemed fresh. I enjoyed the combination of the fish and spicy sauces. My co-worker stated she really enjoyed her roll as well. With that I feel they need 3 stars, but the have got to work on service when they’re not busy and especially work on that edamame! Not sure I’ll be back, we’ll see.

If you’ve been to Oviedo, you know there aren’t many good restaurants to venture to(especially on lunch time!). Shogun is not my favorite sushi place but they most definitely never let me down for delicious sushi. I don’t usually attend for dinner but everyone at my office knows it’s our place to get sushi for lunchtime. The Orlando Roll is quickly becoming my favorite roll, so I definitely recommend that. Their Volcano Roll is always amazing, and an the Unbilievable Roll is on my list to eat next. Also want to note their bento boxes are super delicious and SOMUCHFOOD at a great price. The servers are usually pretty attentive, but sometimes when they get busier it’s hard to grab their attention. The atmosphere is nice — calming but I do have to say it is a smaller location, so sometimes it gets a bit loud with the hibachi tables. Overall great place to eat and an even better addition to the Oviedo area!
