After seeing Karat’s large amount of glowing Google reviews we visited about a month or so ago with the intent to look at engagement rings. Upon walking in the large selection was impressive and the customer service was good. Greeted us quickly, offered drinks, etc. The two ladies on staff took their time to show us many rings and finally in the last case we saw a ring that I loved. I thought this just might be the one for us… That was until we started looking at diamonds and discussing pricing. The first issue was with the diamond. I believe it was an SI2. The sales clerk hands it to me and I started examining the stone. Now, I’m no diamond expert but I am a woman who has done a fair amount of research at this point. So I start looking at the diamond and in under 30 seconds I can spot the flaw, which is in the table(the center part of the stone). This isn’t acceptable to me as I stated I wanted an eye clean diamond. Unbelievably the clerk takes the diamond back, looks at it and says she can’t see it. What?! Really? I, having looked at only a few diamonds in my life, can spot it but the clerk working in a jewelry store who sees diamonds every day can’t see it? Okay, sure. Not loving the diamond we decide to still see about the cost, thinking maybe if it is a good enough deal then I could get over the flaw. No such luck there. This diamond’s price was inflated by about 30−40% over other retailers and even higher if we were to compare to online retailers. I clearly expressed my shock at the price, stated that I knew that was off base. Also gave exact examples of other diamonds we’ve viewed locally. Well then they told us about the 20% discount for the month of June. Problem… it’s still too high! The woman continued to push, even insisting on holding the diamond after we stated we did not believe we wanted it. We chose not purchase there and instead found our dream ring on the Plaza. We feel their prices and«discounts» are deceiving. It’s an all too common scam among retailers. First they mark something way up, then they offer you a «discount» so you think you are getting a phenomenal deal. When in fact you are still paying above typical retail. My best advice to anyone is to do your own research before you go into these stores. Pricescope. com is an amazing resource for diamond information and includes current data on diamond values. Then you can see if this«sale» price really is a sale.

We came into this store in October to look at engagement rings. I had a setting in mind before our arrival, and asked to see those settings. The woman that had helped me informed me that there were no oval halos currently in the store, and showed me settings that I was not interested in. Were they beautiful? Absolutely! Did I, however, come into he store with a specific idea? Yes. Andy came to help us about 30 minutes after our arrival. After telling him that I wished to see an oval halo, he presented us one! Andy was charming and interested in us as a couple; however, when he asked us how long we had been dating(it had been over 5 years), he responded back with ‘My mother always said, that if you didn’t know after two, the answer is no.’ It’s now April, and I still remember this statement, because it had offended me so much. Our address and phone numbers were given to the store, and we had specifically asked them not to call us – two days later, we received a phone call, asking if we were interested in buying. We ended up purchasing my dream ring from a different jeweler. Karats rubbed me the wrong way, and did not have the selection that I was looking for.

My fiancé bought my engagement ring here but before that one of my best friends and I came here to look at their selection of Verragio rings. I believe the man who helped us was Andy — HE’S the person that you want to do business with in this establishment. The other two women that have been present both times that I’ve gone in were less than helpful. I realize it’s their job to make sales, but don’t shove it down my throat and try to make meaningless conversation with me. Andy doesn’t do that. He’s to the point, very helpful and accommodating. We love that guy!

I bought my Tag watch here and the owner gave me a good deal. I even brought it back a year later when he ran the free batteries promotion. He cleaned the bezel and inspected it as well. Great service! Highly recommended
