So disappointed. I ordered 4 dozen muffins for a meeting and was excited to pick up my order. I spent about $ 100 on my order. Since this was for a meeting of some very well to do women, I wanted to show that I had gotten my muffins from what I thought was a very nice bakery. I made a simple request for napkins and a very rude employee told me that«napkins were not part of the order.» I explained that if each customer came in and wanted a napkin with her order, she’d have to give them one. This was the same thing. I just wanted 48 to go with my order. She rudely gave me a few. Not enough. I would think she’d want the free advertising that would come with providing napkins – especially to this particular group of women. Well I decided not to use the few napkins she gave me and I told about 50 of the most wealthy women in Kansas City to stay away from the Clock Tower Bakery. I’m sure she assumed that since I am African American I wasn’t worth her time… oh well… her loss! Now nobody at my meeting will go to this racist and cheap bakery.

Place certainly has pleasant tasting food and the staff is friendly however the sandwiches(of which three were tried) are small and generally feel lacking in effort. Ingredients felt hardy but it’s hard to justify spending 6 dollars on a sandwich that can be made in ones kitchen by even the most novice of sandwich makers. If you are going for sweets and accoutrements to top off another meal, perfect. Just don’t be expecting a full and satisfying lunch.

stopped in one afternoon and got: 1 lemon bar 1 pumpkin bar 1 chocolate shortbread bar to share with my mom. all were amazing! the pumpkin bar had nothing going for it looks-wise but the worker lady said they were really good and boy, was she right! seriously, it was amazing even if it looked super blah. and the lemon bar was perfect. i will totally be back!

It’s hard not to love a local bakery, and Clock Tower has been good to me on many mornings at the nearby Farmers’ Market. First things first, their coffee — they make a rich, Roasterie blend of coffee and charge less for it than Roasterie itself! Gotta love that. Next up, their muffins — always pretty good, well-flavored but leave a little bit to be desired with moistness. Cinnamon rolls and orange rolls are good choices, but beware these aren’t your 2,000 calorie bomb cinnamon rolls. They’re lightly drizzled and a bit light on flavor for my tastes. The cupcakes here are not good, in fact most of the cakes I’ve had have been way too dry for me to order again. I’ve had them early in the day and later in the afternoon and they taste the same, so not my thing at all. Lunches are good(sandwiches and pizza), and overall service is always on. Check them out if you’re going by, and grab a coffee and a muffin!

Every time I come in to Clock Tower I fiend something new that I like! It’s slightly dangerous having such a delicious little place within walking distance from home! I love walking in an seeing the staff making new breads, cakes and other goodies right in front. Lately this place has been my go-to for small tasty gifts for family and friends. Their cupcakes are not only delicious but also beautiful and can be put in a little clear box for a cute gift. I also love their macaroons for gifts(okay and for treating myself). Bright, colorful and flavorful, you can get them in gift boxes of six or twelve. I’ve tried a handful of their breakfast offerings as well and have never been disappointed. Although I’m usually on the go when I pop in here, they do have a small little seating area to enjoy a treat and some coffee as well. I’ll have to take the time to enjoy that someday!

Just stopped by there to ask about their macaron towers like their website stated to do. There was only one young girl working the front and couldn’t keep up with the volume of traffic so asked if she could help me last. Understanding I waited only for her to not be able to answer any of my ordering or price questions. Waste of time and not a knowledgeable staff.

This place sold last year. It stayed pretty good for awhile, but the last time I visited(11⁄14) it was a huge disappointment. They now keep their cupcakes in a refrigerated case, which means you can’t eat them on site anymore. They’re also extremely dry. The whole place now has an identity problem. It’s British… and American… and, inexplicably, still a little French(because they’ve incorporated all these British elements, but kept the croissants… added macarons…). They also serve«high tea» if you call ahead. But it’s an extremely informal setting – you’re just plopped down in the middle of the very small seating area, right in front of the cash register, trying to pretend you’re English. They’ve also redesigned the seating area. Instead of all tables, now they have upholstered chairs crammed in there. I guess so you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee? But, you can’t eat a pizza sitting there. Or have high tea. I guess you could eat a cold, dry cupcake in the tiny upholstered chair. The new owners need to pick a single direction and go for it. Right now, they have an identity crisis. I admit, I don’t like change, but I can accept it if it’s a change for the better. This definitely was not. Skip it.

Incredible Breakfast Pizza, followed by the most scrumptious Sausage Roll, and finished off with a Millionaire Shortbread and a cup of Roasterie Coffee… Not sure how I fit it all in, but I’m glad I did. Incredibly worth it!!!

I’ve been here about 3 times. Their baked goods are delicious, but what I really love here is there pizza! I’ve had the Chicken Enchilada pizza, which I could eat every day. It’s pretty magical. The breakfast pizza is also very yummy. Something about the pizza dough I think! Very fresh. The Germaphobe in me loves how their kitchen is out in the open, and you can watch them make your order. Fascinating and very clean! :) I’ve had a little sugar donut cupcake, which was phenomenal. The dough was like air. Their pumpkin cupcake with ginger frosting was fantastic as well. Very friendly staff and quaint décor. I love that they take Sunday’s off, but I’ve forgotten a few times and showed up when they were closed. Too bad Sunday morning is usually when I want a bakery fix!

Great little local bakery. We love the breakfast pizza for our morning treats. The worst part is trying to get out of the store without taking a large box of baked goods home with us. Fridays is free coffee with a purchase. We enjoy Roasterie coffee so we like starting the days here with fresh coffee. The new owner is English and has been introducing some classic British items like sausage rolls and beef pasties. Every time I get a pastie it reminds me of my vacation in England last year. Good memories. They also offer a traditional English afternoon tea(24 hour advance notice required). We haven’t partaken yet but keep talking about wanting to every time we come in. Bottom line, we greatly enjoy their service and pastries, much to the chagrin of our waistlines.

I have our CM emeritus Matt to thank for this one. He grabbed an unsuspecting couple as they came in the door at Off Key Thursday night and brought them over to our table. They had no idea what Unilocal was, but the guy is somehow connected to Clock Tower and said we should go. So I did, and I’m glad! They do sandwiches and pizza in addition to pastries and bread. The owner is British, so you can get scones and shortbread in addition to cupcakes and cookies. The shortbread was delicious; the guy ahead of me bought the last scone. My friend got a grilled ham and cheese sandwich on their multigrain bread which came with a small side salad; I tried a bite of the sandwich and it was very good. I also took home a vanilla cupcake with salted caramel frosting and a fig/goat cheese macaron for Unilocaler Daughter. I know the sun is setting on the cupcake craze, but this one was above average-a little firmer texture but not dry, and it really had some flavor. The salted caramel frosting was creamy, light, and not overly sweet. YD described the macaron as «awesome» and didn’t save me a taste. The interior is utilitarian, but you can watch them decorate their beautiful cakes while you pick out your stuff. And although they don’t seem to publicize it, with 24 hours notice, they’ll do an English high tea, which is certainly a reason for a return trip.

Okay I know they have great baked goods. In fact they are baked from scratch daily even. Many options including cookies, scones, muffins and other pastries. It varies from day to day a bit. When you walk in it smells wonderful. However the atmosphere is just drab and not inviting. I take my delicious pastry else where to enjoy it because it’s just not an inviting, warm environment. They could really improve here. They do have a bathroom, but the hall way and back of the house way pretty unorganized. I don’t think they they think much that this impacts a customers impression. Now what’s not great about this place, average service. The gal was not really friendly, almost annoyed that they had to stop baking to come to the register. I also wish they had more beverage options, especially for coffee. All they offer is the self-serve stuff and I’m not even sure it’s very fresh. They do offer some bottled water and canned soda. It just seems like they focus on their bakery and not so much the environment or customer experience I wish I had a more glowing review to write for them, but I was just not impressed, no matter how delisous the scone.

This quiet little bakery is completely open for your viewing pleasure. They make small batches of baked good for several places around town. Inside you can get a very limited sandwich selection for lunch. I chose chicken salad and it was delicious. Not too wet. All ingredients carefully cubed the same size. There was a little side salad of mixed greens with a tangy berry vinegarette to clean the palate.

Jamie and I went here this morning, and enjoyed a cranberry scone, bran muffin, and a breakfast pizza. The pizza was the highlight, like a quiche with shrooms and ham on a well executed, thin, structurally sound crust. Coffee good and strong, inadequate AC to handle a hot summer day outside. Lots of local mommies and their cute toddlers. We’ll be back for the ‘za, for sure: P

My boys loved it. We don’t often get to a real bakery so the experience of waking up on Saturday morning and getting a tart and and warm muffin was pretty exciting. A dying art. The employees were all nice and friendly for my goo-eyed pair.

Ahhh, the thrill of the cupcake! The pursuit of sweet satisfaction. The inexplicable conundrum of why is the vanilla cupcake soooo much better than chocolate, when I so clearly adore all that is chocolate. I ponder all these unknowable things with each and every delicious bite. The task at hand, a luscious Lemon Raspberry cupcake. Just the right amount of tart to sweet, to be closely followed by the Vanilla cupcake. So as not to be too much of a little Miss Piggy, I cut each cupcake into 2, almost perfect portions, to be shared with my dessert buddy d’jour, my husband. The specific characteristic that makes these cupcakes very different than all the others, would be the texture of the crumb. The texture is coarser, but please do not take this as a bad thing, but just the opposite. It gives the cupcake a homier taste; rich and buttery, more substantial. These are definitely super-sized, for a mere $ 2. While some cupcakes are so light and airy that they feel as though they have been prepared by a box mix, these babies scream pudgy, Midwest Grandma! 3 cheers for Grandmas everywhere. It’s hard to trust a skinny cook. Now in truth, everyone in the bakery appeared to be on the skinny side. I’m convinced Granny was sequestered in the back by the hot ovens, slaving away over the Clock Tower’s yummy cupcakes! The only complaint that I had was the consistency of the butter-cream frosting; grainy on one, satiny smooth on the other. I will state that this inconsistency, did in no way, stop me from consuming my larger half of each cupcake, or from being inspired to try their Peanut Butter Chocolate version, as well. However, as usual, the vanilla triumphed over the chocolate… drat, foiled yet again. This is a great area for foodies; just down the street from Penzeys’, the Farmers Market, and The Culinary Center of Kansas City. You deserve a treat. Take a friend, and as always, let them know that Unilocal sent ya!
