This place had great food. I would love to open up a restaurant with him and keep him in the kitchen.

This is a very pleasant little place for lunch, the food is delicious & quite fresh. The soups are particularly good; others have raved about the seafood bisque, but the cream of artichoke soup is rich and savory as well. The décor seems a little dated, but you’re not here for the picture opportunities, are you? Sit down & order something from your very friendly server, and enjoy some yummy food in a tranquil atmosphere.

This place was such an awesome surprise! We decided to go just because we’ve recently moved to this side of town, and kept driving by it(ahem, on our way to pick up Jimmy Johns :-/). My dish was… fine. Chicken madiera, more Indian than I’d had it before. The chicken was tender, but the flavor just wasn’t up my alley, so the leftovers ended up going to waste. So why, you might ask, am I giving this place 5 stars? Well friends: Let me tell you. Get. The Filet. It’s incredible. The most tender piece of red meat I’ve EVER eaten. Still regretting that I let him order the pricier entrée, and went frugal(as per us). It was seasoned with… well my Jimmy Johns-trained palate wasn’t sure, but seemed maybe basil? It was extremely flavorful, and the tenderness was just beyond compare. I’m going to have to go back and do further investigation on what they’re doing here. It’s also, though one of the pricier menu items, one of the cheapest steaks you can get around here. Do yourself a favor & try it out.

I am always up to try different variations on food but two questions!?! How is this place still in business and why is this place still in business? Falafals with Hot ranch? what is that? Outdated décor and after hearing the chef in the back say«NO we can’t make that to go» to a customers face well there goes hospitality.

My husband and I came here for an early dinner a few weeks ago on a Saturday night. It’s very close to our house and I’ve seen a coupon in the Entertainment book for years, but just never gone. We were seated immediately as the restaurant was not full. The waitress was the hostess and she provided very good service throughout the night and gave us suggestions for what to order. The waitress brought out a basket with white bread and pita bread triangles when she came to take our order. The pita bread is amazing. I had to keep myself from eating all of it so I could save room for dinner. We ordered the baba ghanoush as an appetizer. It was good and came with more pita bread. Argh! Garry and I decided to try the veal, as we don’t go to many restaurants that serve this and they have several selections from which to choose. I think that was a mistake. The waitress gave us a couple of suggestions — Garry ordered the Veal with Mushroom and Madeira Wine Sauce and I had the Veal with Garlic and Mushroom Sauce. Garry’s sauce was definitely better. Mine was bland. The veal was pounded so thin that it didn’t really have any taste and was like eating paper or cardboard. It just wasn’t that good. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing. Would I go back? Probably not. There are lots of other restaurants in town.

My husband and I may not be gourmet eaters but we like good food, good service and a menu we like. We LOVE the seafood bisque. It could have a bit more spice but it’s a cupful of seafood… can’t beat that. All dinners come with a fresh salad, sides of yummy carrots and wonderful fried zucchini. They offer veal, steak, lamb, seafood, chicken… all with similar sauces available and I haven’t eaten anything yet I didn’t like. We’re in the 60 year old group but my 30 year old son and his wife also love it here as do our other kids. It’s a small place that could use some updated wall covering but the reasonable prices for all that good food make it easy to overlook. They have a coupon in the Entertainment Book but it’s worth the regular price without a coupon! Give it a try.

This review is for their LUNCH service only. I was really looking forward to this place because I had seen some snippets of their menu online and the food selection looked interesting. However, for lunch their choices are somewhat limited. They don’t give you the full menu, just a piece of laminated paper with their lunch menu. I don’t mind when restaurants only serve a lunch menu, but it’s nice if they give you the entire menu with a lunch insert so that you know what else they serve in case you ever want to return for dinner. The lunch menu also didn’t indicate any beverage choices or anything like that. I ended up ordering the chicken with spinach, pine nuts, and feta cheese. The dish was not bad tasting or anything, but it was not something you expect from a place called Café Casbah. It was sliced chicken breast served in a creamy spinach sauce, saffron rice, and carrots. It tasted like a bland chicken alfredo that you could make yourself at home. It ended up that the best thing served with the meal was the side of carrots. The service left a little something to be desired. They seated two of us at a table for 4, but didn’t remove the extra place settings. During the later portion of the meal when I was thirsty, the waitress stopped by multiple times without refilling the small water glass that they provided. She also dropped off the check while we were still eating. Then after we were finished eating, she asked if we wanted anything else even though we had the bill already. This might be a whole different deal at dinner time as I’ve heard it can get busy, but my lunch experienced kinda soured me on the place and I don’t see myself returning for another try. If you’re looking for a good«Middle Eastern/Mediterranean» style restaurant, I would definitely recommend checking out the Caspian Bistro on 91st& Metcalf.

Good food. Reasonable prices. Salmon in dill sauce seems to be permanent daily special. Quaint. I would go back next time I am in town.

This is a pleasant place that seems to cater to the older set. I’ve been here twice, once maybe three years ago and again tonight. Its a favorite of my in-laws and we liked it. Their menu is extensive, w/beef, lamb, chicken and seafood variously sauced, so you will have beef or lamb or seafood w/one sauce or another. They offer a variety of hors d’oeuvres and soups. Meals are reasonably priced and reasonably portioned and come w/a salad that’s fresh, not plated and refrigerated for hours as you get in some restaurants. I had the soup of the day, cream of artichoke, which was quite good. I had lamb, Alan and our sister-in-law had shrimp w/different sauces and Alan’s brother had a filet. We were all pleased. One of their sides is deep fried zucchini, which was greaseless and tasty.

I wanted to like this restaurant since it is Mediterranean(my favorite) and soooo close to work. But, it is just very, very average if not slightly below.
