Great clean small place with GREAT food. I had gyro plate and my husband had Philly steak. Gyro was way better than the one we had on Navy Pier a few days ago. Philly was also very good. (I had to sample both).
Everyone was very friendly and everything was clean. And the prices were very reasonable.
If we lived in the area we would return.

Yuck… Food is average at best. Fast food is probably a safer option. Have tried more than once thinking it would be better and no way. Will never eat there again.

Grew up in Ottawa but never went to Mr J’s until today, like 12 years after I moved away. I saw the pace in a scene of the terrific local-​set movie River City Panic recently.
And I liked it a lot.
Everything I like about Ottawa. Friendly, humble, real people. Inexpensive food.
I had a hotdog and a gyro and they were just fine. Had a Chicago hotdog yesterday at a bar about half a block from Wrigley Field and theirs wasn’t any better. Gyro here was a tiny bit smaller than I am used to, but with the hotdog, I didn’t leave hungry. Both of those and a root beer was like $ 8-​something.
Not bad.
A old friend walked in while I was there and told me he likes the eggs/​chorizo.

The food was just average IMO. When I asked for a glass of water, the cashier rang it up. «You charge for water?» The cashier said «Yes». Me: «Seriously? The same as a fountain drink?» Cashier: «Yes». So I got a fountain drink… and it was flat. Went once, and that was it.

Passed the other hotdog joint for this place bc they had indoor sitting. Big mistake. No Chicago style dogs in site. When I asked for hot peppers on my dog, I was told it’d be 0.44 $ more. Um…
They have an eclectic selection of Mexican food and gyros, burgers, and dogs. Super bizarre. And not a good eclectic. Pass on this place.
Next time I’ll try Tones and eat it on the go or at home before I come back to this place.

Unfortunately its «ok» at best, could be so much better. The staff lately gets an A for being stoned or on something a D for being good servers-​order takers. IF someone with a clue would come to Ottawa and open a GOOD Beef — Hotdog stand, this place would be out of business.

This place is awesome for late-​night, drunk food. One of those places with pretty much anything you want, as long as 90% of what you want is fried. Sober, it’s just so-​so, about as good as fried food gets, but it’s really cheap and the quality for the price is pretty decent. Also, everyone who works there is really nice, and the décor is hilarious and charming.
