Alex’s On the Water

I arrived at the Best Western and decided to dine at Alex’s on the Water.
I had a team of 5 and took a table near the water. The ambience was very nice… the restaraunt was well organized and not real busy for a Wednesday night at 5pm.
Beers were cold and a little slow to be deliveried. We used the free drink ticket from the hotel.
We ordered the Lamb Poppers and were a little disappointed in the portion size (3) and the cost $ 13 for our group of 5. Would have been nice of the server to let us know — hindsight it was a perfect opportunity for an up sale.
More drinks were ordered and we ordered dinner. I asked for a caprese salad with my meal and was told no but i could order a $ 10 full salad. The server was unable to work out a solution so i decided not to eat. She said the «Chef» would be out to talk with me.
30 minutes later the salads for my party arrived along with their meals. The Chef finally arrived and said if i want a caprese salad id have to pay full price. At this point it was to late.
In the middle of the restaurant heated words were exchange between myself and the Chef, which really served no purpose but to be an embarrassment to everybody at my table, the servers and other patrons.
The Chef left and said he’d have a caprese sent out to the table. I declined and he walked away.
Service continued to deteriorate but the salad arrived.
The server limited her time with our table and eventually the check arrived. We were not offered desert.
I paid the bill and left a 20% tip.
Overall the portions were small but tasty. The beer selection was fine for a hotel.
We finished and went acrossed the street for additional drinks. The team and i were still hungry so we ordered more food and closed the place at 1130pm.
While i might visit the restaurant again. it probably won’t be my first choice

Nice bar, staff was very friendly. I had a petite strip and salad. Good food

We went here for my wife’s birthday, absolutely everything was perfect. Restaurant is beautiful inside and out. We did not dine outside due to it being February, but I recommend sitting by the fireplace for a beautiful setting. I ordered the prime rib and when I say that was the best prime rib I have ever had, I was the best. My wife ordered a burger and it was cooked to perfection.
Overall A+!!!

This restaurant was ok. The food was decent and the wait staff was ok. It’s a very lovely looking place practically sitting on the water. I ate here every night as I was a guest of the Best Western Hotel. Nothing I ordered all four nights was bad especially since I was working long hours and just wanted a quick dinner so I could go to my room and prepare for work the next day and go to bed. I like sweet wines and especially liked the «good karma» reisling-​Chardonnay. It’s a popular wine here as suggested by the waitress. Overall, my experience was good but I wished there were more menu options.

No doubt it is the best restaurant in Oswego. I definitely would recommend you come here to enjoy your dinner.

Let’s start with a cocktail. I ordered a Gibson. The bartender did not have the correct ingredients so she improvised. The results were awful and sent back. Next came the hors-d’oeuvre, calamari. It was way over cooked, burnt. Mostly inedible. I ordered the special, beer battered fried haddock. It had way too much batter and no flavor. When I dug down to the fish it was dry. No tarter sauce available. The only reason there is one star is because the server was great, even though she told us they were short staffed due to a function.

The location and view were exceptional, the food was very good, the service was uneven.
We were a table of five on the outdoor patio. It’s an absolutely gorgeous space with a beautiful view of the riverfront and the harbor.
Three in our party ordered drinks right away. Two of us were going to share a bottle of wine and wanted some time with the menu to decide what would suit both our entrees. When the first round was delivered, we ordered a bottle of wine and appetizers, then asked for a few more minutes as not everyone had decided on their meal. Several intervals of ‘a few more minutes’ later, our water glasses are empty, our wine hasn’t come out yet, we haven’t ordered entrees, and our appetizer is dropped off at our table by another server without appetizer plates. After the appetizers were completely eaten, our server returned with our wine, filled our water glasses, brought us a bread basket, took our entrée orders, and tried to get us somewhat back on track. She brought us a second bread basket, but by the time we finished that one, our bottle of wine was empty and we were beginning to note that people who were seated after us were completing their meals and leaving with their leftover containers. The server came out to apologize for the delay, said our meals would be right out, and we asked for another bottle of wine to be brought out with our entrees. Our food was delivered and we tucked in. It was good. Really good. It was almost good enough to forget that we had ordered the second bottle of wine that arrived as we were two-​thirds of the way through our meal. Our server was very nice and extremely apologetic about the delays.
The bruschetta and calamari starters were tasty. Two of our party very much enjoyed their Baja Mahi and their Flatiron Steak entrees. The rest of us ordered the Tuscan Chicken Pasta and I would love to have the recipe; it was outstanding. The Pinot Grigio was a very nice accompaniment, although I would have liked our entrees to arrive shortly after uncorking our first bottle.
Will I be back the next time I’m visiting family in Oswego? If no other locally well-​regarded casual dining opens up on the waterfront, then maybe. I’ll lower my expectations of the service accordingly if I do.

Beautiful restaurant! They have a fantastic outdoor space to dine or have drinks in the summer, right on the water. There’s a bar outside with a fire pit. The inside dinning space is gorgeous. We hade their duck wings and a wild mushroom flat bread. Both were delicious. The staff were extremely friendly.

I agree with the reviews that say the place is beautiful and upscale for the area. The problem is the bar staff, they are so slow and just so duh it’s ridiculous. Been there at least 5 times and it’s always the same. Was there with a large party tonight that spent a lot of money at the bar and they didn’t even clear the table for us. We just moved the mess to another table ourselves. Same old story, they need to get some experience behind the bar.

Went there the other day for dinner and a few drinks. It was great. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. It has a great atmosphere with an amazing view of sunsets. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. The steak was good as was the rotisserie chicken.

This place has great food and a really nice atmosphere. My only complaints: their drink choices seem to be pretty limited and they only serve prime rib once or twice a week.
It’s also a gorgeous location for photos inside and out!

They have a upbeat and relaxed atmosphere. Service is good and staff are helpful. I had the RedEye… it was perfect.

Everything was wonderful — the view from the riverside seating on the water, the fortunate timing to see the sunset. Atmosphere, service and beverages were excellent. Our food was a 4 star — served at a good pace, all meals came out hot and flavorful.

Meet & Greet the Future Mr. & Mrs. ‘V’…at the Dockside Bar at Alex’s. Wonderful Bartenders and staff! Spectacular atmosphere for outside experience… We were a group of 3+ and had great drinks and nosh! Class upscale atmosphere.

Beautiful venue, interior dining room has modern appeal and seating looks comfortable. We sat at outside bar for drinks and dessert. Bar was very nice, although the mid-​back wicker bar stools won’t be comfortable for everyone.
Drinks were very good, dessert was awesome too, we had Chocolate Chip Lava Cookie and I wish I could have 10 more!
Service was friendly but it did take some time to get a bartenders attention. They seem really busy making complicated drinks most of the time, but that’s fine.
I would definitely recommend, and I hope come back to Oswego soon so I can try the food.

It’s really incredible what they’ve done with this space, it doesn’t at all feel like a hotel restaurant in a mediocre hotel in small-​town America. The space itself its absolutely beautiful, and the outside area is even nicer, with a gigantic firepit and outdoor bar for those perfect summer nights in Oswego. Can’t imagine how crowded this place will be for Harborfest…
The food itself is fairly good, though somewhat hit-​or-​miss. The pretzel appetizer is stunning the cheese sauce is top notch, made from real cheese with a nice spice, not like a lot of the «cheese» sauces you find at a lot of other places. The fish entrees that I’ve had on my few visits have all been exceptional (the crab cakes in particular are pretty tasty for being in my humble hometown), but the chicken options leave something to be desire and are often a little bit on the dry side. Personally, I think this has more to do with the gigantic menu that they serve, they really should pare this down (though I understand the economics of being a fancy restaurant in not-​so-​well-​off Oswego). I think a bit more focus would help out the food portion a ton.
The service has always been great and I would strongly recommend a visit if you are in the area!

Service and ambiance are excellent. Sitting on patio over looking water during summer is amazing experience.
Food is above average but nothing exotic. Price is on higher side. One person can have nice dinner with drink for around $ 35 without desert.
