The Sidekick is located right on the corner of 34 and 99 so it’s the most convenient place to stop around here for a meal if you’re south of Hillsdale. I’ve stopped there multiple times throughout the years and all I can say is… it could be a lot better. The food isn’t pricey, which is great. The food portions aren’t small, but they aren’t big. The waitress is friendly and outgoing and the diner is bright and welcoming. This morning wasn’t my best visit there unfortunately. I went in at 8:40am and ordered their country skillet a little after I walked in since there were only 3 other people in there and 2 of them were just coffee drinkers. My order went in with another guys order around 8:50. I didn’t leave until 9:15. The skillet has eggs, gravy, ham, and hash browns with cheese. I wouldn’t have minded waiting for food, but the cook came out and talked to the customers, after awhile she looked at me and tried to tell me that the broaster was the reason my food was taking too long. They open at 7am and their broaster hadn’t been turned on before that? I don’t even know what they used the broaster for with my meal? They lack professionalism. I get that it’s a small town diner, but you still need to be professional with people who aren’t regulars. We pay for your service and our food and we want to know you want to give us the best service. The better service, the more times we’ll come back, and the bigger the tip.

Food was OK. Service was lousy. Waitress was on the phone for almost the entire time we were in the café. She didn’t come back to check on us once. Another customer was waited on as she cradled the phone on her shoulder. He ordered coffee and she told him she would have to make some. There were only about 5 – 6 other customers and she didn’t check on them either. The vents in the ceiling were filthy. The bench seats were torn. The ceiling tiles and frames were falling. We won’t be going there again!
