I checked this place out while on a conference and visiting my cousin. The tacos were all on point, authentic and the sauces as well. I also ordered the menudo but it didn’t wow me, plus it was missing the hominy. I’ll stick to the tacos whenever I’m visiting the Orlando area again.

The food is amazing and authentic. It’s very reasonably priced. I literally tried 4 different types of their tacos. What can I say? They’re fantastic.

This is by far the best Mexican food that I have eaten here in the area! Their sopes are amazing, their tacos excellent and their pozole to lick your fingers. We had a horrible experience with the in between owners and decided to ditch this place but I am glad we found the old owners being back! I can’t tell it often enough: amazing food for cheap and nice ppl

honestly the closest thing you can find to authentic Mexican food! the food here was TODIEFOR! I definitely recommend the sopes and carnitas. all of the tortillas were homemade and SODELICIOUS. the prices were super reasonable as well. definitely the most authentic and best Mexican food you can find in the Orlando area. please try it out!

I agree with the previous review. If you’re looking for 100% authentic Mexican food, this is the place. Their tacos and daily dishes are excellent. Don’t forget to ask what is the«agua fresca’ of the day to accompany their delicious dishes. Happy that the previous owners are back!

I am happy to report that after a brief change of ownership and closure Ameca has reopened under the original ownership and menu. Everything was as it was before with all its deliciousness and authenticity. Great to have them back.

Great find! The sopes is fantastic as is carne asada platter! Tacos are the smaller authentic ones. Delicious. I highly recommend this place.

So happy I was introduced to this place. I cannot get enough of the tacos and sopes. They have other items that I should probably also try.

Q. Where can you get two tacos, an enchilada, a quesadilla and a drink for $ 8? And I don’t mean $ 8 each, I mean $ 8 total! A. Taqueria Ameca Jalisco, that’s where! This small taqueria located in a somewhat industrial section of Orange Avenue south of downtown has very good food at very low prices. The menu is scrawled on a white board near the register, and presumably changes a bit from day to day, although nothing had the look of a special. Pretty much you can get any meat in either a taco, enchilada or quesadilla(and perhaps some other things – when I said«scrawled» I meant it). Be prepared for a wait. There are only a couple of folks preparing food, and at lunch it was busy. There’s a salsa bar that has minced cilantro and onions, several types of sauce, cabbage, and even beans. Tacos are served on relatively small and very authentic corn tortillas, with an extra tortilla for everything that falls out of the first one. Try the barbecue with some cilantro, onions and green sauce. My delicioso!

A hole in the wall with great food = my favorite kinds of places. You order at the counter then you pick a seat and they bring your food to you. They’ve always been very nice and helpful at explaining things, as I’m a gringo, and don’t know what some stuff is. The sopes are my go to, the tacos are all good(don’t forget to use the fixins bar), but if they have the ceviche tostada, get it! That’s been my favorite thing so far. The menudo is great but a little barn yardy if you know what I’m sayin. It wouldn’t hurt if the employees picked up a broom every now and then, but the food is fresh and delicious, so whatever. Two people can stuff themselves and have a beer here for about twenty bucks.

If you are a Mexican food lover… and I am talking Mexican food from Mexico, you need to check this place out. The tacos are great, but the real secret is the Sopes. Imagine a Chalupa/Tostada/Flavor Explosion mixed together. You will be speaking Spanish by the time you leave, guaranteed!

Legit. That’s the simplest way to describe Taqueria Ameca Jalisco. It’s a small little place, with not quite enough tables, but they are always packed with customers. For the hour that I was there, I was the only non-hispanic person, which to me is a good sign. The guy behind the counter spoke english, and was very friendly and helpful. The food can take a while to come(about 20 minutes), but it’s well worth it. I grew up in Los Angeles, and this compares to the best of them. The fresh salsa bar is a great way to add some flavor and kick to your meal. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for authentic Mexican grub.

I don’t ever do reviews but today I had to do it for this place. My cousin posted a picture of what he ate there and I asked where was that place. After telling me I went right away and did take-out. It was about closing time and the man behind the register not sure if it’s the owner but a really nice guy. He took my order which I ordered the menudo. BESTMENUDOIVEEVERHAD!!! Hands down! Also ordered the asada, carnitas, and chorizo tacos all which were great! I love their sauce and veggies station they have there. If you want some REALAUTHENTICMEXICANFOOD. Here’s your place! It’s your hole in the wall joint. But that’s where all the good food comes from.

My wife and I stopped by to grab some lunch on a Sunday. The place was packed and we were the only gringos in the joint – a good sign. I got 4 tacos to go: carnitas, chorizo, carne asada, and some other kind of pork(don’t remember the name). They were served up on warm corn tortillas that appeared to be house-made. From the fixings station I grabbed some onions and cilantro, taco sauce, and limes. They were simple and delicious. This place is no frills, nothing fancy. So if your looking for something sleek, shiny, or trendy, move on. Buy if you want authentically delicious tacos for cheap, check it out. Side note: I read older reviews that said they only took cash, but when I was there I was able to use my credit card.

Other than the wait, the tacos were excellent at $ 1.25 a piece. I had the barbacoa and the carnitas. Both nice flavors and the condiment bar was well stocked with sauces, limes, onions/cilantro, slaw, and whole jalepenos. The proprietor was super nice and took his time to explain the choices to me. I will most def be back.

What a hidden gem. The food is amazing brings me back home with each bite. I’m from Mexicali, Mexico and this food is as close to home –as I’ve gotten here in Florida. Real homemade food just like my nana use to make! The beans are delish But what won my heart? It was the tacos and what a steal of a deal! Okay, so it’s a little rough around the edges but isn’t every diamond in the rough? This place needs a food truck ASAP!

Place looks like a super dive and if your not looking for it you may miss it, but hey isn’t that where the best foods at. Yes the place may not be much to look at but wow does the food make up for it. Came here on a Sunday and it was packed. The line was out the door. So we waited in line and ordered the asada and suadero tacos(our go to at taco shops). Since the place was small and packed, finding a table was hard but we found a place and sat with sodas in hand. Food did take awhile, but they checked on us and assured us that our food was on the way… Once we got the food, we loved it. It was exactly what we were looking for. My husband and I ate them so fast by the time we realized it we’ve eaten all our tacos. So he got up stood in line and ordered more. Great place, friendly people, great food. We will return here if we’re in the area and have a taco craving.

Taco Tuesday again and this time my companion and I found ourselves on Orange Ave., just south of the SODO district. Located on the corner of a tired strip mall, Taqueria Ameca’s appeal is fast, cheap, authentic Mexican food. Well, maybe not so FAST, since the whole place looked as if it’s a two-person operation: a young guy at the cash register and either his, or someone else’s abuela in the kitchen. But the food was good and cheap(6 tacos, a beer and a small agua fresca for $ 11.) My tacos(pic) — Chicken, Carnitas, and Chorizo — were served on small home-made corn tortillas with adequate portions of meat. Of the three, the Chorizo was the tastiest, but it also exuded the most grease. I loved the DIY condiment bar where you dress your own tacos with an assortment of salsas, limes, and other toppings! Today’s menu, scrawled almost illegibly on a white board near the counter — with no prices posted — also listed enchiladas, sopas, burritos, and flautas. Several brands of beer and soft drinks were available, but I chose a sweet, yummy, ice-cold horchata. Make no mistake: this is a local, unpretentious hole-in-the-wall. My tacos were served on a foam paper plate with a roll of paper towels on the table in place of paper napkins. Since several families with extremely vocal toddlers were seated near us and the juke box was blaring rancheras, the ambiance was loud and noisy. My dining companion said it reminded him of the taquerias or diners frequented by truckers on highways across Mexico, in other words: the REAL thing. Autentico. Delicioso. Poco dinero. Check it out!
