I have been to two Korean restaurants in my life, and this was my second favorite. That said, it was still, quite possibly, the best meal of the year. It was terribly expensive, and I am notoriously cheap, and still it was almost worth it. Struggling now to remember what I even had, I foggily see some manner of pancake. Probably the Kimchi kind. Sorry; low on details here… just expect a lot of good food at high prices.

Let’s see… I love this place. I had a wonderful time eating here and having general chit chat with the family. I came on a Saturday night and we were pretty much seated right away so that was great. A very nice boy came to introduce himself as well as take our drink orders. The menu’s a pretty extensive one but not extensive enough that it would take you an eternity to choose your food. We ordered 3 Dolsot bibimbaps(mixed rice in stone bowl), 1 regular cold bibimbap, haemul pajeon(seafood pancake), and haemul jigae ***hopefully my hangeul is right. I’m still studying. Anyways, all of the food came in record time which was a plus. My family hardly had any real food during the day so it was great to get some grub in my tummy. Food probably came out in 10 minutes which is great for a Saturday night in Orlando. The food was also really good. Not THE best but it was in the Orlando scene incredibly good. Very hard to find good authentic Korean in Orlando. The pricing wasn’t cheap but for the special ingredients that Korean food require and work that goes into it isn’t bad at all; don’t mind paying more. The staff were also fantastic. Our server, Tom, was extremely careful to make sure whatever our orders were made their way to the table. That’s super awesome because we’ve been to a great many places that have forgotten a dish or two. There was a very nice man who helped us when we asked for extra kimchi and even packed our leftover for us in to-go boxes. I don’t know if they do that for everybody but it was a great notion and very much appreciated. Overall I had a lasting impression of Shin Jung and will definitely seeing me a lot when I make my move to Orlando. Great food, great atmosphere, great staff. They got the holy trinity! Haha Oh, and my younger brother forgot his headphones and the nice man ran out the door to look for us so he can give it back. That was super nice and wins my heart heart and stomach more with this place.

This place has so many good reviews and I’m still trying to figure out why… I love trying new places and different cuisines so this place seemed like a gem. We walked in to find the tiny cook tops on each table and I was excited to use it. First surprise of the visit was the PRICES. I mean… $ 26 for a bit of raw meat, a salad, a tiny bowl of white rice, and a random assortment of other odd sides? The server explained the sides as he put them on the table but none of them appealed to me. I stuck with the essentials(I’m glad I did based on my friends reaction to above mentioned random sides. She ended up spitting out her bite of a fish thing because of how many bones were in it), and the kolbi and bulgogi were quite delicious. But I wanted more! I hate to say it but I’ve had Korean cuisine from a food truck(I’m sure you know the one I’m talking about) for about $ 8-$ 10. I will stick to that in the future for any bulgogi cravings!

As soon as I walked in and those wonderful smells hit my nose, I was taken back, back to 1988 and my time in South Korea. What a wonderful place, service was great we were greeted right away. The food was so good I am looking forward to my next culinary trip down memory lane. The only thing that keeps me from giving the fifth star is the décor inside, minor issue and cleaner than many of the places I frequented in Korea.

Great food and service! My husband and I lived in Korea for two years and often crave Bulgogi. We ordered it here and was just as good as we remembered over there. The Kimchi was also awesome. Definitely recommend!

Lunch Special– Chicken Bento: Gave all the right portions. The food was good, although I’m not a fan of Kimchi(first time). The chicken also had its tough pieces. But, the service was fast and the waitress have good suggestions. The restaurant was a nice set up. I would like to come back and try the dinner– cooking it on the tabletop.

Having eaten at many korean restaurants before, this one was just sub par. Although I would have to say it is better than the last KBBQ restaurant Izziban that I tried just a few days ago. It’s a hole in the wall type of place, located right off of Colonial in a standalone building that’s quite small but intimate. The narrow entrance into the parking lot may not fit 2 cars at once, so be careful when turning in if someone is already on their way out. When we got there, there was a host at the front that greeted and sat us. Our server, kind of reserved, took care of us promptly. Service was par. I ordered a mango smoothie and my girlfriend ordered a chai frappé. The smoothie had a bitter taste to it, with no real hint of mango; almost as if they just used a cheap syrup picked up at the local grocery store. Chai frappé was all right, thought I wouldn’t brag about it to anyone. We didn’t get any appetizers but we did order Kalbi(marinated short ribs) and bulgogi(marinated beef, tasted like sirloin or skirt) which came with 6 side dishes. The meat was tender and quality was good on both, though the kalbi tasted a bit sweeter than usual. I would say taste was sub par, nothing to be hyped about. The side dishes included: Kimchi, pickled cucumbers, some sort of fried fish, pickled radish, lightly seasoned soybeans, and a side of house salad. The only sides we finished were the salads and the pickled radish. The rest were OK, though I’ve had better before. For the price, I wouldn’t say it was worth it. The ambiance was warm and had an intimate feel to it. Not super spacious, but enough to feel comfortable. Every table had a built in grill. The servers worked as a team instead of individuals, which is a plus. But, I just can’t say it was worth paying 65 $ for two here. Oh, and if you love rice… be careful here. Any additional small bowl of rice is an extra 2 $. My dad loves his rice, so he could’ve easily spent 20 $ extra just for rice alone.(luckily he wasn’t with us!)

Small cozy Korean bbq place with limited parking. Suggest getting reservations, especially for larger parties and busier times. We went with a group of ten and they were very accommodating. The food was good and arrived quickly. We chose to grill at our table and ordered a couple of side items. The bulgogi beef was the top hit as well as the jap chae. Service was fantastic. This is probably a good choice for Orlando but compared to some other cities it wasn’t as good.

I stop here every time I come to Orlando. There aren’t many Korean restaurants and I find this is the best. I’ve ordered bbq here before and it was delicious. But I don’t eat meat in restaurants anymore because I’ve gotten food poisoning twice :(But when I visited last week I had the seafood pajun and seafood soondoobu and it was decent. The pajun was really good. It was probably one of the better pajuns I’ve had. There were lots of seafood pieces and wasn’t too floury. They only give you one shrimp which was kinda disappointing. The flavor was nice but wished it was spicier. It’s always a great experience coming here. It feels like home, very welcoming.

I haven’t had any Korean since I moved down to Orlando and was craving it. The place is pretty small and looks like one of those hole in the wall places but is pretty clean. Every table has a built in grill in the table so the main focus is on the bbq. Most Korean places I have been too automatically give you corn tea so I was definite looking forward to that. I asked but sadly they didn’t have any. The menu is a little more limited than I am used to with the focus on the bbq. Though this wasn’t on the menu I thought I would give it a try to see if they had gampoonggi but unfortunately they didn’t either. Decided to get the dol sot bibimbap which was average.

Before I write a review on the restaurant, first and foremost, there is one server that I must acknowledge. It was a server that waited a table next to mine. He seemed Korean as he was very knowledgeable in Korean culture/food. He explained everything from the food, to the culture, to his childhood memories in Korea, to his crush on Justin Beiber(I kid)… almost to the point that the poor guests who were obviously there because they were hungry, couldn’t eat the food because the server kept babbling non-stop LOL. But I’d never seen such an enthusiastic server like this young man. I would’ve left him a nice tip… so he could afford to get through the college and become an auctioneer(is that a word?) so he could continue doing what he truly enjoys — talking like a mad man. ANYWHO… back to the restaurant review. Nothing to write home about(so I’m writing on Unilocal instead). Average yet diverse food options, average décor, average service… Average isn’t bad though! Menu is user-friendly for first timers who are looking to venture into Korean cuisine. Actually I don’t remember much of anything on what I ate… because I couldn’t eat due to the constant babbling by the aforementioned server. The end.

We were here with friend for lunch. They have open grilled Korean food and cooking from kitchen. I did not see much of Korean people eat there. But I see quite of Chinese people eat there. The restaurant has typical open grilled item for selection over the cook top on the table. My friend order the one grilled item and they have a rule is one item they will cook from the kitchen. I think if they charge you over $ 20 per item for the grill meat, they should be able to grill on the table. We don’t mind they cook at the kitchen since we are in hurry to the next stop. When the food came out for my friend food they are almost like a pan fried item not through the open flame grilled. I did not say anything in the restaurant. We order the Tteokbokki is a starch rice cake in small piece with Korean gochujang sauce. The food is good to try. We also order the Dol Sot Bibimbap. It has chop rib eye, mushrooms, cucumber, carrots, bean sprouts and rice. This dish serves over the hot granite stone bowl that is heat up. I like this dish is easy and fast way to prepare. The rice will sit on the stone bowl and they will turn crispy after they have sit for a few minutes. Overall the service is quick today. I wish at lease they can grill the meat in the kitchen before they bring it out. I saw our neighbor have many grilled items and grilled on the table make the food smell different. I also noticed helping you to grill the meat in faster way because they don’t want to spend too much time using the gas and grilled only piece of meat. I feel the enjoyment to grill is not there.

I love this place for Korean food. We have come here often for the last 15 years. We are familiar faces to a few of the servers, so we get friendly service. They have good lunch specials which are fairly new, between $ 9-$ 13. I got the pork bento box. Bento boxes come with salad, kimchi, bean sprout salad and rice. The pork was slightly sweet and spicy. My dad order the Galbi bento box. The meat is marinated short beef ribs. Sooo yummy! My favorite. My husband gets the Soon Tofu, spicy soup with Tofu, kimchi and pork, that he shares with my daughter. My son orders the Man Du dumplings. We also ordered the Jap Chae, clear noodles with beef pieces and vegetables. You will always get a plethora of tiny side dishes that is called banchan. It’s customary with Korean eating. They serve about 6 – 8 tiny plates that can range from potato salad, kimchi, sweet pickled radish, pickled sprouts, salty preserved tiny fish, and spicy pickled radish(just to name a few). You will end up leaving here probably smelling like the BBQ meat because the smell permeates your hair and clothing.

I’m almost ashamed to say that I have had Shin Jun bookmarked for well over 4 years and yet never found the time or occasion to stop in and sample their food until last night. I may not have a lot of experience with Korean food, and maybe I do have an inexplicable habit of torturing myself by going on youtube to watch maangchi cook delicious Korean dishes when I’m hungry and yet for all the video-viewing I still do not know what Korean authentic-ness should really taste like but I will say that I really enjoyed what I had for dinner here. By the time I was done, I was slouched up against the booth, drooling, and mumbling jibberish until our quick, attentive, and very friendly waitress stopped by and asked if we wanted to go boxes. «YES!!!» Do yourself a favor and order the Kimchi pancake, I’m not even going to go into detail, just do it, and also know that you don’t have to do the BBQ cooking at the table to get a fabulous meal because both my friend and I opted to get the Dol sot bibim bap. It arrived to our table sizzling, hot and just really delicious, I couldn’t stop eating even though my stomach was ready to burst. All I can say is that I have new found love and respect for Korean food and I need to venture more in this avenue.

Hands down the best Korean food Orlando has to offer. This is the only place I go to satisfy my Dolsot Bibimbap cravings. I would recommend this dish to anyone! Dolsot Bibimbap is essentially rice served in a sizzling stone pot filled with veggies, bulgogi beef, and topped off with a perfect fried egg. The stone pot is what makes the rice crispy and keeps the dish hot the majority of the meal. Usually, most small restaurants have a good track record when it comes to customer service. Shin Jung, being the little hole in the wall that it is, has always provided great customer service. Then again, it’s usually not very busy the times I’ve visited… Warning: do not sit in the corner booth. It is the hottest sitting area in the restaurant. If you dine at Shin Jung when it’s about 95 degrees outside and you sit at the corner booth, you will sweat. Especially if you’re eating Dolsot Bibimbap or anything spicy… trust me… lol

Though I’ve lived in the ‘hood for 10 years I hadn’t been here until last week. Bill G. and I were enjoying amazing kimchi soup in Koreatown in LA and were like, «can we get that at home?» A quick Unilocal search revealed yes. we could. a few blocks from our house. I’m thinking I need to make a commitment to try one new restaurant in the Mills50 every week for the next 52 weeks or something. Anyhow… Shin Jung is an unassuming little Korean restaurant on Colonial, with friendly staff and an extensive menu. You can choose to bbq at your table or go with a stir fry, noodle or soup dish. Bill G. ordered the kimchi soup and I ordered the spicy Yuk Gae Jang soup — which included beef, scallions, egg drop, and potato noodles, and it was very flavorful. The Kimchi Pajun — like a kimchi egg pancake — appetizer is also something I’d highly recommend if you like kimchi.

What brought us to Shin Jung was the Kimchi soup. See, I never had Kimchi Jjigae before until I was in Los Angeles. My wife was able to track down a place in Orlando that served it — and it’s right down the street from us(Mills-50). Cool. So yes, I had the Kimchi Jjigae and it was excellent. We also had the Yuk Gae Jang(another spicy soup), Kimchi Pajun(it’s like a pancake), Goon Mandu(pan-fried vegetable dumpling), and some hot sake(on special). All great. The only odd thing was that the Goon Mandu came out with a small plate for a sauce, but there was no sauce in it. We figured we had to add our own. The place is small but the placement of the mirrors makes it seem larger. The servers are all very nice. We got there at 7pm on a Saturday and the wait time was minimal. This is an intimate space and it works. The prices aren’t exactly cheap for this kind of thing. However I still recommend it. And we didn’t even try the grill/BBQ selections yet(you cook it on the table). I guess we’ll have to come back for that!

4 stars for the great food. Service on the other hand = 2 stars. Maybe our server was having an off day or something but her attitude through out the whole meal was very suspect as she even yelled at my fiancée when she asked to get her Korean BBQ dish cooked in the back instead of having it cooked at the grill in front of us. There weren’t many customers at the time so even more I expected good service with a smile which we unfortunately didn’t get. The food however was excellent. The japchae was one if the best dishes of japchae I have ever had as it was very flavorful and sweet. The Korean BBQ was also very flavorful and was quickly shared down by our table. We ordered the bulgogi & kalbi which came in a good portion for our table of four and had us leaving stuffed. Now if only the service was just a tad more friendlier it would have been 4 stars for sure
