This place was alright. The empanadas were pretty good however their black beans was okay. I ordered the churrasco and the meat wasn’t very flavored. The staff was pretty friendly but for the price it was decent.

Not so good the perni was to salty and not enough flavor the mofongo had some rubbery content that made it taste kind of gross but service was great.

I usually come here because I live nearby, this place is a great place to sit down and get chatty, or you can have a quick bite and go! The ambiance is very lively, with Latin music in the background and a HDTV showing the beautiful country of Puerto Rico. The menu has a great selection, from pork, chicken and seafood. They even offer soups for each day of the week. I appetizers are a must try, very delicious and crispy empanadas with flavorful meat. The main courses come out pretty quick, I had the carne guisado(beef stew) with rice and a side of salad. Let me tell you, the meat was so tender and juicy. They give you two cups one for chimichurri and the other is a spicy sauce, looks like it is homemade. Each bite I took brought me closer and closer to the island of Puerto Rico. I fell in love, and I will continue to come here in the future. The salad however was mediocre but it’s alright, I didn’t come for the salad! The prices are decent and the portions are big! I always leave full and with food that I can take home. Great place if you are hungry and want good food!

I visit last night. order mofongo con carne frita, for the price was not much food. we also order arroz con gandules, bitec with platanitos fritos and a toston. The arroz with gandules«rice with pegan peas» was warm not hot for me. The platanitos was to fried. The service? not what I was expecting and the wait? don’t talk about it. I would not going back again, so sad.

The food portions are great, specially for the price. They don’t have too much to choose from, their menu is small, but what they make they make well. The décor inside the place is nothing impressive or even close to being classy. It is a very simple place. The food quantity and quality for a reasonable price is what makes me like it. The lack of a likable ambience is why I can only give it 3 stars.

I could give this place less stars cause the service SUCKED since the waitress was less than attentive but, the food was delicious, the portions were large & the prices are very reasonable. On my 2nd visit I requested a different waitress than the one I’d had before because I didn’t want the aggravation yet again, she was perplexed but I just hope she got the message… her service SUCKED! Anyway, the 2nd visit waitress was on point & again the food was absolutely delicious so I’d go again & again! I’d had the pork chops so this time I opted for the Bistec Encebollada(steak w/sautéed onions), excellent choice I must say! Next time I’ll try the Pollo a la Plancha & then the Monfongo con Camarones, those are the dishes my friends had & it looked amazing! Til next time…

Overall, this place was okay, but there were some high and low points. The Bistec Empanado with the rice and beans or tostones were very good(#4). However, the carne frita was a bit over done and Monfongo was just mashed plantanos. Monfongo is prepared with garlic, cracklings, and seasonings. This is why I say Carne Frita con Monfongo was not a good experience(#2). The Marisco, the house special on the menu cover, was tough and bland. It cost twice as much as anything on the menu which makes it a disappointment(#1). The waiter was friendly and helpful. However, we left smelling like food. I have had much better experiences.

I flew into Orlando executive and found this place through a recommendation from one of the guys at airport and the reviews were good. I had the mofongo with chicken and as additional side of arroz con gandules. It was delightful! The waitress was new and I asked her to make the mofongo without the pork rinds, unfortunately it did have it and I had to send back. There was another girl who was training her and apologized, but by the time I had it re-done I had to leave and put to go. Was a little disappointed but I understand she was new. Still giving them a 5 star because of the food :) Very authentic and will go back next time I am there.

Well, this is the freshest view I’ve written so far since I just came from this place 20 minutes ago! I’ve passed by here for years and never visited until today. Mi Viejo is a small, family-style restaurant serving Puerto Rican dishes. The menu isn’t very extensive; typical dishes and appetizers are served. Got there and my gf and I asked for the sangria, but they were out, so that was disappointing. I opted for a Coco Rico(coconut soda). Wasn’t bad, liked it. I don’t speak Spanish but our waitress understood us fine. I ordered the Pechuga de Pollo Empanada. The chicken was lightly breaded, not overdone like some other places. Tender and juicy, it came with yellow rice and sweet plantains. My gf got the beef stew with mofongo. Her stew was delicious, not salty at all. Would’ve been nice to get some waters at our table. And although not very busy on this Saturday, our waitress didn’t check on us. The food here isn’t very hard to find anywhere else throughout East Orlando. Prices are fair like other restaurants of its kind. So overall, Mi Viejo San Juan isn’t exactly a revelation, but just another restaurant that serves good Puerto Rican dishes.

DON’T EATHERE! There’s no such thing as a zero star for this restaurant cause Unilocal doesn’t have the option. But that’s what I would give this restaurant. Now, I sent my parents here on a date here, just the two of them. They complained the food wasn’t that good for the price that they paid for two people. But, they paid and tipped their waitress accordingly. Now, here’s the horrible part. The day they paid, they were charged appropriately, BUT a week later, they were charged the amount before the tip once again on their card. Now, we called the restaurant, advised them we’d be coming by and were hoping to speak to the owner around 5pm. Once we arrived at the restaurant, the waitress asked how many, and we told her we needed to see someone in charged and she insisted we took menus but we declined and asked to see someone in charge. Finally, she told us to have a seat and the owner will speak with us shortly. Now, there were only two waitresses for the small amount of people that were there in the restaurant, but they seemed to want to avoid us, and in our waiting, never came back to check on us or even offer us water. Alright, well, we got sick of waiting, and finally asked one of the waitresses where the owner was. It turns out that the owner wasn’t even there and wasn’t planning on coming to the restaurant. We were very very upset. The waitresses tried to call the owner, but after 4 attempts, she didn’t pick up until they left her a voicemail. The owner calls back and the waitress hands us the phone and the owner informs us that she could not refund us the money that her restaurant had charged us TWICE and that we would have to take to our bank at that point. Now, this was our very first experience with this restaurant. And it sure is going to be our last. The owner refused to do some sort of refund, or free meal, or even apologize for the inconvenience. She simply said to take it up with our bank and its not their fault that they charged us twice, for a day they didn’t even go. Very upsetting. Very sneaky. Do not eat here and if you do, bring CASH.

My husband, a good friend and I came here to eat before heading back to Fort Lauderdale after spending the weekend in Orlando. We definitely were not disappointed. Puerto Rican restaurants are sparse in Florida compared to NY. The food was fresh, served hot and they had an amzaing piqué! We had the Aperativo Surtido and Alcapurria as an appertizer. Entrées: for me was Chicharrones de Pollo with white rice and red beans(I admit I have a weakness for this particular dish), my husband had the Chuleta with Arroz con Gandules and Maduros, and our friend had the Carne frita con mofongo. Drinks were Jugo de Tamarindo(2 glass full for our friend) my husband and I just had water. Dessert was Flan which was served in a small container so it wasn’t freshly made. Overall, we had a great dining experience. We all agreed to go back with no hesitation if we were in the area again. I know there is a location down in Miami but it is quite far from where we live. Maybe we’ll get to have a dining experience soon.

My co-worker has been raving about this place for some time now and I finally was able to make my way to Mi Viejo San Juan. Everything on the menu sounded delicious. I made my choice of the roast pork. Before the server came out with the food, she brought over these two containers with a sauce with a lot of oil and chopped of green spices in it, and another sauce that was red. The food came out and I was drooling just looking at it. It was cooked very well and was really good. I put the sauces on there and whoa, the red sauce was way spicy. The green was good and I really don’t know how to describe what it tasted like. It really did compliment the food though. It wasn’t busy at all and the server was attention. I’d go again.

This place was horrible!!! Went to have a nice typical Rican meal, but what we got was horrendous service, old food, and greasy entrees. Our white rice was about 2 days old and dry looking, nothing like«pegaó» or anything like that. Some entrees were forgotten by the waitress. Refills? Nope, they didn’t even come by to offer water. One guest ordered a salad and it was never brought to the table, but they tried to leave it in the check. Oh well, I’m not going back there, and others should stay away, and spend your money some other place who would appreciate your business.

Don’t tell the little old lady you didn’t enjoy the food. I ordered the fried snapper on Sunday — it was chewy and lacked salt. I struggled through half by adding loads if salt, chimichurri and hot sauce. I had I stop as nothing helped. The wait staff is very pleasant and attentive and when I told our waitress I didn’t like it she graciously asked I I wanted something else. Having earthen there before I knew this was a one off. Old lady asked me what was wrong and I told her, she told me that it’s delicious and how Puerto Rican fish is prepared. She also informed me that she sold 35 that day. I’m also from an island and know what fresh fish looks and tastes like — tough and chewy is not it. She was quite put out that I said anything — so I cancelled my replacement order. Everything else tasted great which is why I gave them an opportunity to make it right. I wasn’t looking for a free meal, just fresh tasty food. I’ll look elsewhere next time.

I have been to this place twice and it has been great both times I have gone. Had to try the mofongo which is my favorite Puerto Rican food and it was great! The fried pork that came with it was excellent! Would definitely recommend this restaurant to any of my friends looking for authentic Puerto Rican food. My only complaint was the service was a bit slow, but the food was great!

We wanted some really good Latin food and Urban Spoon & Unilocal lead us this way, we walked in to what seemed to be a very clean restaurant with a friendly greet. My friend and I dined in, ordering the combo appetizer and a grilled chicken. The grilled chicken was alright, the appetizer was over salted, greasy and just terrible. My initial drink was halfway filled with our other drink filled to the rim. The server brought out the appetizer, which was my meal, and the chicken about 5 minutes apart. The server then took another 10 minutes before coming back, to tell me that its my fault I didn’t like the appetizer, and within another few minutes, what I would assume is their head chef comes out to scold me for my choice, wasting food and if I don’t know what I want don’t order it. I was very embarrassed as half the dining room is looking at me to see what is going on. At this point we had to ASK for a refill on our drinks, then the lovely lady was only going to refill one of our 2 drinks. They then offered us dessert or coffee which we declined and were waiting for our bill to get out of this hell hole. We get the bill and the atrocious appetizer was still on the bill. The server then had the nerve to tell me, you order you pay… so I did some number crunching and decided instead of just subtracting the cost of the gross appetizer I’d pay but it was coming out of her tip. I told her she has no tip, zero, zip, zilch because of her attitude, the way the staff treated us and the fact that I’m paying for something that was awful. I will not be dining back here and I heed you if you’re white or any ethnicity/race that isn’t Hispanic to avoid this place, they are very racist. I know enough Spanish to understand what they were saying about me as I walked out the door and it was very unprofessional, racist and rude.

Only steps east of Forsyth Road on East Colonial Drive is Mi Viejo San Juan, «My Old San Juan.» I’d like to take Mr. King Cadillac to this place with blindfolds on and ask him, «Are we in New York City, San Juan or Orlando, M**** F****?» This friendly, open and airy Puerto Rican restaurant is a little gem. I’d guess you wouldn’t go wrong with most anything on the menu, but today I sampled Shrimp with Yellow Rice and a Criolla Sauce, and it was wonderful. I tossed some homemade hot sauce into the yellow rice to make it even wonderfuler. I need to head east more often. Mi Viejo San Juan is a delight.

A co-worker suggested the restaurant and his recommendation is an understatement of great the service, the food & deserts. I had the Mondongo and Mofongo de plata no. My guest had the Carne Frita. The order came quick, hot and flavorful. I would recommend to anyone visiting the Orlando are. A great Mom & Pop place to eat.
