After a round of putt putt we were in walking distance to Johnnie’s Hideaway and thought we would try it. I knew it would be expensive. It was. We eat at expensive places a lot. But I was surprised at exactly how costly this place was. Stone crab bisque was $ 9. No biggie, but there was not one piece of crab in it. Just broth. My son and I decided to split the stone crab claws. $ 80 for 8 claws. They are big and very impressive. Except for the taste. There is none. They give you a mustard sauce to dip them in for flavor, but I don’t really wanna pay $ 80 for sauce. My husband got the sea bass and that did taste very good. I wish we would have all ordered that. I think that was around $ 35, but I’m not sure. Their steak have an average price of $ 40 and from what I’ve read they are not very good. Rosemary bbq shrimp app was $ 14 and was again, not very good. Lacked flavor and seasoning. The fresh fish menu that is given on a separate menu is again very high in price. Ranging from $ 33-$ 80. I don’t mind paying for a good meal. We frequent Jean George Restaurants whenever we can and average $ 125-$ 150 per person. But I want the food to be good. The server was absent most of the time. She took so long to come back and check on us that we didn’t even want to order another meal to replace the crab claws. It was going on 10:00. We were seated at 8:30. We had to flag her over for refills on drinks and to tell her about the tasteless claws. We ordered a side of mashed potatoes and never got them. I was disappointed.

I had the bone in ribeye, salad and asparagus. Overall the steak was depressed with a pretty weak, fatty sauce that didn’t really do much for an already fatty cut of a steak. Asparagus was overdone. Salad was a confused mess. Servers where competent and courteous but overall service was painfully slow. I suspect the kitchen is where the problem is. Will not return.

Been here several times, came in early tonight for drinks & appetizers at the bar, then dinner in the dining room. Bartenders were friendly and very attentive, as usual, and I tried the cantaloupe martini, surprisingly delicious(because I’m not a huge fan of cantaloupe). Also had some raw oysters & mussels appetizers which were great). Transferring from the bar to the dining room for dinner is where things went downhill. First, we were seated in a room where we were the only ones, and therefore forgotten. Then we sat for another 20 minutes with empty glasses. The lack of service was upsetting, triggerfish entrée’ was delicious.

Not worth it. Great atmosphere, good sounding menu but average overall, overpriced food and interesting service. Raw bar sounded great. Order 2 dozen oysters and a 10 shrimp. The oysters tasted good, just not prepared properly to slide out of shell. The shrimp were tasty, but lacked and punch with the cocktail sauce. Very mild and we even asked for more horseradish(it to was mild). How does a raw bar not have good cocktail sauce. The glass displays when you walk in shows large beautiful cuts of salmon, tuna and Seabass. We ordered the salmon and Seabass and were disappointment. Salmon was overcooked, smaller portion then displayed and covered with cheese??? The Seabass was undercooked. Not recommended, even if someone else is paying. All hype and price and not very good.

I guess you have a 50⁄50 chance of having good service in this place. I was very surprised to see how bad service was in this place. I thought for that kind of price i was going to receive top natch service but unfortunately for my guests and I it was a big disappointment. The kitchen screwed up most of our orders, we send some of the food back, they sent it back to us the same. If you assume a steakhouse would understand the difference between rare, medium rare and well done steak you better think again. A bloody well done steak is not something anybody want to see in their plates. Well! that was what we experienced in this place; and yes they charged my credit card after knowingly screwed up three of my meals, that was very surprising to me, but luckily for them I was not gonna make a scene and embarrassed my niece with her friend. Next time you plan about walking in that restaurant please keep in mind that 50⁄50 chance; to me it’s not worth it. Not at all…

Of all the dining out that I do, this had to have been some of the worst service that I have ever received. It took over 35 minutes and two reminders to get a refill of iced tea. By the time my drink arrived the food was cold. For the price of the food the service was sub-par. Two of the others in my party had undercooked meat. When returned to the kitchen it still was undercooked. They ended up changing their order. The server suggested a «tiki tea» after informing us that they didn’t have sweet tea. Turns out that they were $ 5.00 a piece. Great suggestive selling, crappy service.

Good variety of appetizers available for happy hour. The sweetest fried shrimp I have ever had. My husband had the mixed plate with oscar sauce. Yum… Food and service were excellent. Patio seating at sunset with live music just added to the beautiful evening.

This place is a true gem. Really enjoyed my apps, cocktails, dinner and even had my kids try the crispy Florida gator which was tasty. Everything was exceptional and would definitely return whenever I’m in Orlando again. Oh and their Tennessee Rockefeller cocktail is the bomb, 3 of that and I was out. The bill was about $ 400+ and a $ 75 tip, I’d say they underestimated us when we entered

Absolutely best happy hour specials for drinks and seafood! I NEED to stop here every trip to Orlando. There’s free valet, great service, delicious drinks, seafood, and steaks. Couldn’t ask for more.

Overall service was excellent. Ambience was great. It didn’t feel over crowded, although they were busy. Staff was excellent. Food was good and of quality. Appetizers included escargot and stone crab. Both highly recommended(the star of the show). Ribeye was good, but not the best. The garlic mash was creamy and very tasteful. But the green beans were not so pleasant. It was under cooked. My wife & I usually don’t order desserts but departing from the norm. I ordered the Apple Pie(warm) and my wife ordered the Carrot Cake. After finishing dessert, I thought the apple pie was awesome my wife on the other hand thought it was just good. The carrot cake was too sweet for my taste buds and my wife thought the carrot cake was OK.

This place is very disappointing food wise. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The manager even stopped by and apologized. The steak was so disappointing; no flavor, tough, yuk. Things that was good: Fish dip, bread, wedge salad and service, KEYLIMEPIE. Bad: Steak, fired oysters, Parmesan clams(clams missing in few of them). I would not go back to this place again nor recommend it.

Before you go understand that this place is very expensive but it’s totally worth it!!! This is perfect for a couple’s night out or a celebration. I was here for New Year’s Eve and absolutely loved it! When you arrive they have complimentary valet! The restaurant has a retro feel with wood paneling throughout; there is a meat locker as you enter and a chilled cabinet to display the meat selection for the night. The staff are all dressed alike in black slacks, button down shirts and aprons. I love that anytime they bring you food for the table it is always rolled out on a cart instead of a platter and tray stand. The ambiance of the whole place is classy casual. You are not expected to dress super fancy but it’s still a nice restaurant. My party and I started off with three appetizers: bacon, oysters Rockefeller, and escargot. I know you’re probably thinking bacon? Really? Let me tell you! It’s one slice of bacon that’s ¼ lb and an inch thick! We got two and the size was insane to me! It was delicious! The escargot was great too because it had little garlic bread puffs soaking above the snails! Super garlicky but that’s how I like them. I did not try the oysters. We got salad as well and they add beets, olives, and chickpeas on top. I liked that it wasn’t your traditional salad starter but I hardly ate it. For dinner I had an 8oz Filet Mignon with a ½ lb lobster tail.(It was New Years Eve so of course we went all out!) The filet came with garlic mashed potatoes that were to die for! The filet was honestly so tender and melt in your mouth good. I really couldn’t get over how delicious it was! My lobster tail actually came out cold but our waitress was amazing she never gave me a weird look, just apologized and had another one for me in less than 3 minutes. It was so good and I liked the little butter dish they give you that sits over a candle to dip it in. Honestly everything we had was amazing and our service was on point! I would definitely return here again for a special occasion. At the end of the meal the manager even came over to say hello and gave each person at the table a $ 25 gift card. I noticed he did that with the other tables as well; maybe as a New Years treat? It was definitely a great incentive to make me come back.

I visited here on my Birthday while vacationing in Orlando. It’s at the back of the Plaza, so it took me a bit of driving around to locate it. Didn’t realize the valet parking is complementary until I parked and arrived the restaurant. It’s a classy place, and they take their business seriously. Right by the door you can see where they are aging their meat, and their fresh cut of seafood are on display. When setting up tables, they actually use flashlight to check for finger prints on both wine and water glasses. Our server, Tyler, was friendly and very helpful when it comes to picking the right dish for our liking. It’s definitely a place we’ll go back to when we are in Orlando again. There are so many dishes we would like to try.

I was in Orlando for a work meeting and they lined up this place for us for dinner. Holy crap it was awesome. It doesn’t get the 5th star because even if I wasn’t paying, it was very pricy. The quality of seafood was amazing. Seemed to be farm to table level of freshness. The steak was cooked beautifully. The scallop was cooked and melted in my mouth. The drinks were strong. Their bacon Mac and cheese was to die for. It’s a family style side, but you should try it. The restaurant is also decorated very well. Lots of natural wood colors and display cases for the different seafood there. Really was impressed. Even with a group our size, they got our orders in and out in a timely manner and we didn’t have to send anything back. Was awesome. There is no reason why I wouldn’t go back. They place was awesome.

OK… here’s the quick rundown: 1) Make sure you have enough credit on your cards. You’re going to spend some money here. But it’s so worth it. 2) The menu is one of those where everything sounds good, and everything IS good. I went with the Madagascar shrimp, which are ENORMOUS. Came with an awesome house salad and bread that I would kill for! 3) There are sides available, but they are entrée-sized. Seriously, you don’t need a side, but if you get one, plan on sharing it. Can’t go wrong with lobster mac-and-cheese, but I’d recommend the appetizer as your side: shrimp and lobster fritters. Melt-in-your-mouth friend balls of decadence. Unreal how good these were. 4) Even if you’re stuffed, try dessert. Just do it. Take it home if you have to. Ever had key lime pie, where they stick in a fork in the pie and pour tequila over it? You won’t soon forget the«margarita pie.» There’s also a great apple crumb pie with salted caramel ice cream. and(5) Look for Rhonda and ask for her to be your server. She was truly amazing and made our night enjoyable. She was friendly and knew her stuff. She had that great personal touch.

Came in for dinner with some work collegues. We split the seafood tower which was neither towering or filled with much seafood. What did arrive was good but it was not nearly enough for the price. For dinner I choose the Szechuan tuna which was over seasoned and not completely cut through so ever time I grabbed a piece the entire portion lifted up. I gave some of this to a co-worker in exchange for some stone crab claws which I found to be passable but you could tell they were not cooked recently and were somewhat watery. Service was very slow and I was not at all impressed with this establishment.

We came for valentines day. We anticipated a nice restaurant with nicely dressed people, so we obviously came over dressed. People were relatively casual. For appetizers we did Oysters– they were good and fresh Gator bites– a little tough but good taste Wedge salad– it was good just too much salad the bacon on it is Amazing! Dinner– Chilean Seabass with mango chutney this was delicious fresh and perfectly cooked The porter house– it’s HUGE juicy and well seasoned and cook As a side we had– Lobster mac and cheese– I am HUGE Mac and cheese fan and it’s the first thing I look for on menus. I was so disappointed it was dry and the pasta was over cooked I had one bite I was not happy with it at all. The sweet potato fries were soggy. The ones I make at home are better.

This place is getting the one star because Unilocal makes me(and because the valet and the key lime pie were fantastic.) I will also say STOPRIGHTNOW(or right after this review) and go look at all the«not recommended reviews» for this place. I’ve been on Unilocal for years and I don’t always understand why some of these aren’t included in main results, but there are more than FIFTY and almost all talk about how bad this place is. This place deserves one star, IF that. But those reviews were right. This place sucked. And as I write this, my husband is laid up on the last day of vacation with a NASTY case of food poisoning. Which surprises me NONE after the meal we had. So. We’re on vacation, hungry but not HUNGRY, thinking we’ll go out and grab a few drinks, some apps and dessert. The Unilocal reviews looked good(more on those above, sigh) and we didn’t want to hit a chain restaurant, even though there are plenty of good ones around that we don’t have in Chicago. We pull in and parking is essentially valet only. Ok, no problem — but definitely gave a worry of «maybe our attire is a little TOO casual.» The valet(I wish I’d gotten his name) was terrific. Super polite, opened my daughter’s umbrella for her, called her princess and helped her out of the SUV-minivan-crossover hybrid contraption we ended up with. So, happy kid, and good vibes walking in. Then… we ask for a table. There is no wait, and plenty of tables open. One of three hostesses standing there looks perplexed, then snottily asks, «Do you have a reservation?» We don’t, given this was last minute. «Ok, it might be a few minutes.» Sure. No problem on the wait; could do without the attitude. Finally seated. Meet our server. You can tell she’s just over it — for the night, for life, I don’t know. But she’s definitely not in a mood for a small, polite family of three. We order a couple of their specialty cocktails, a beverage for the kid, and three apps — bacon, oysters, and fritters. Apps come and they’re taking up a huge chunk of room on the table — particularly the tray of oysters. I ask the server if she would mind clearing the random bottle of wine on the table(not even a solid vintage, mind you) and the stems we weren’t using because we’d already ordered(and were drinking) cocktails. She looked offended. Sorry? The bacon was good; when we ordered, we were asked how many pieces we wanted. Since she asked, we said two, assuming one piece wasn’t much for the three of us. We should have asked. One piece was enough to clog the arteries of six people, easily. But it was delicious, and we brought the extra back to our suite for later. The lobster and shrimp fritters were also good, but… there wasn’t really any lobster or shrimp IN them, so basically they were really tasty, fairly pricy hush puppies. So — from a food perspective, so far everything is tasty, even if the service is less than enthusiastic. THEN the entrees arrived. I was already close to done by the time the meal arrived — which is good, because the entrees sucked. I had the mixed grill — triggerfish and salmon(the two fish dishes included are«chef’s choice») and a scallop and shrimp scampi. The scampi was barely passable: needed salt, the scallops were mushy and the shrimp were rubbery. Both fish portions were completely overcooked. Just gross. Took one bite of each and left everything on the plate outside of a few shrimp totally uneaten. Husband got the lobster — and I’ve never said this about lobster in my LIFE — it was disgusting. Overcooked and it didn’t even look as though it had been cleaned well before it was — what — grilled? It was SO tough. We ordered the stuffed tater tots on the side, but they were basically just huge tots. What was supposed to be in these? I’m dying to know! Server comes by and asks how we’re doing after seeing one of her colleagues, Victor, had already checked on us after he saw us eyeing the dessert tray.(This dude was terrific — we watched him with the tables around us all evening and everyone loved him.) Fairly certain HE would have noticed and asked about the virtually untouched plates before he cleared them. Finally, dessert. We didn’t eat our entrees, and the desserts the other server came over and showed us looked amazing, so we ordered the key lime pie and the chocolate cake with Grand Marnier. The key lime pie was pretty much perfect. I wish we’d ordered two — but we were definitely ready to leave by then. The chocolate cake was so sickeningly sweet — and SO much of the Grand Marnier — that we each tried a bite and left it alone. Looked amazing, though. Then, sometime early this morning… I’m awakened by the sounds of serious food poisoning. Given that the only times our food intake differed over the past few days was the lobster and the oysters — they’re definitely the culprit. I don’t mind throwing down $ 200 for a good meal any day of the week, but this place didn’t deserve our money. Or yours. AVOID.

I came with a party of 12. We enjoyed craft beer, several bottles of red wine, two platters of oysters(combo: Bluepoint’s, Malpeque, and a couple other varieties) and the were fantastic. We also had the gator tail and calamari. I loved the gator tail but I’m just not a fan if squid. I ordered a Caesar salad with anchovies and it was a tad over the top. They put way too many anchovies on it. Next up I went for the 16 oz lobster tail. It was what you’d expect of a quality piece of seafood served with a bowl of drawn butter. To top it off I had an Irish coffee. Great food and great service.

It pains me to write this for my 100th review. TL;DR– Johnnie should stay hidden away. As we walked from our car one of the valets sped by. Apparently it had rained earlier that day; he splashed water on my wife. When we brought it to their attention, we never received an apology, as they were in too much of a rush. Not a good start. Our server let us know upfront that the kitchen was running slow(Valentine’s Day), so we ordered a pair of Magners Pear Ales to sip on while we waited for our appetizer. One of them turned out to be flat. We also were charged $ 7 for each one when the menu showed $ 6. The fried green tomatoes we ordered as an appetizer came quickly. We asked for a side of marinara, which came to us ice cold. Our server said they couldn’t do anything about it. Really? You have a kitchen that can’t warm up some marinara? The reality is they were too busy to be bothered. But we let it slide since our food would go cold while we waited for the sauce to be warmed up. Having been to Talk of the Town restaurants before, I was looking forward to the garlic cheese bread. It came to us cold. I was hoping it would be warm like before. Our server then brought us some bread that had been warmed, but it just wasn’t like that first time. I ordered the Florida Fisherman’s Feast. I feel sorry for fishermen in Florida. The food came lukewarm, which is a pet peeve of mine. The lobster tail was good, I guess. Everything else was just standard. Red Lobster does better for cheaper. The stone crab was served cold, and had no sauce, not even any melted butter. Not that it would have helped. It didn’t taste good anyway. I won’t bother talking about the rest of the food. It’s not worth mentioning. I might be done with Talk of the Town.
